William Claude Dukenfield (January 29, 1880 - December 25, 1946), better known as W. C. Fields, was an American comedian, actor, juggler and writer. Fields' comic persona was a misanthropic and hard-drinking egotist, who remained a sympathetic character despite his snarling contempt for dogs and children.
This is just a small collection of his great talent for comedy on all levels. His style of comedy was unique and traits of it can be found in modern day comedy. Al Bundy, Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin have a lot to owe to this guy.

W.C. Fields is pure comic genius. I laughed at his performance the first time I watched one of his movies on television when I about 8 years old. He still makes me laugh now at 50 something, a testament to his talent. No obscenities, just talent.

In " International House " Fields lifts a candle holder, lights his cigar, tosses the lit candle into the air, it flips, coming down upside-down into the holder, extinguishing itself. He sets the holder back on the table . Was he a telekinetic ? I think maybe YES . Or he'll do until one comes along. I'll never forget my first girlfriend, she had a face like a collie , and a head like a melon. I called her my "melancholy baby"

All his stuff is classic. The Big Broadcast Of 1938 is one of my favorites and possibly his best. Rodney Dangerfield "borrowed" the golf cart bit for Caddyshack. And the song & dance number with Martha Raye is one of the most awesome dance numbers ever filmed; Martha maybe wasn't "Pin-up" beautiful, but had unbelievable legs and could really dance...one of the unrecognized best dancers ever! Nobody else was ever like W.C. Fields! RIP, funny man!

I've followed WC for years, after seeing one of his movies played in a theater as a throwback to oldies. I was around eight and have spent a lot of time collecting his movies. Unfortunately, some have been lost due to the film breaking down due to improper storage. I do treasure all of his movies and humor. He made visual jokes that the film industry thinking of the time said wouldn't work for a laugh. He proved them wrong many times over and pioneered the humorous films we see today. We owe a lot to this man!

I once saw an old W.C. Fields short film that predated talkies and was silent. The funny thing was that even though it was silent, it had W.C. delivering classic W.C lines via the intertitles, like "He's got a face like it wore out six bodies!"
