Interesting answer to the girlfriend question; I'm the same - I feel like the draw of electronic music for me is related to this as it expresses so many emotions and states that aren't captured elsewhere. Whereas a lot of popular music seems so focused on a particular set of romantic feelings that is hard for me to relate to.

Really love your work. I bought Orbital Snivilisation when it was released and it opened my ears to wonderfully creative music. It changes the world. Orbital hosted an ‘influences’ show on BBC 6 radio recently. Worth a listen if you can find it. Includes some LFO and Nightmares on wax. Thanks again, I’ve discovered loads through you too. 👍 👍

I agree, I find that album to be way more dark and foreboding than Mezzanine, it’s deliberately harsh and unpleasant and digital and cold and for those reasons I absolutely love it. I don’t understand why it’s still largely forgotten and overlooked in favour of the three big classics in Massive Attack’s discography but I suppose following up such a gargantuan album as Mezzanine would’ve been no easy task, it’s still a great album though

Thanks for answering one of my questions (at 1:20:57). Congrats on 15K once again! I can get behind the point you brought up at 25:28. There have been instances where I've downloaded isolated tracks from artists' SoundCloud pages because I noticed a pattern of them occasionally deleting their older work or because I wanted to hang on to what they made in case they decide to remove it later.

Hopefully you’ll get around to doing a video on The Moody Blues sometime, that would actually be pretty fire, and on top of that I think it would be helpful for people to navigate through their discography. Thanks for answering my question at 1:04:56! I must admit I wasn’t expecting you to be kind of lukewarm on Mezzanine to be honest but I perfectly understand the logic behind it, it took me a long time to grow on me but when it did it just stuck with me ever since and has now become one of my favourite albums of all time. I think being from that area (I grew up near Bristol where they are from) helps. Dummy is almost certainly the best Portishead album in my opinion, I just think it flows as an album much better and feels the most complete out of their three studio albums. Maxinquaye is an absolutely solid choice for a number one favourite trip hop album although for me, I would also lump DJ Shadow’s Endtroducting up there, Hooverphonic’s A New Stereo Sound Spectacular, Zero 7’s Simple Things, Quantic’s The 5th Exotic and Sneaker Pimps Becoming X albums.

Thank you for answering my question! Really appreciate the honesty and wouldn't want to sacrifice the quality which is the best thing about the channel, I was thinking more along the lines of guides like Deep Cuts best albums to get you to a specific genre but looks like even those subgenres are too broad and inter connected, and i think personally i'm more into deep diving certain artists (will start with Orbital and watch your videos!!)
@TheWonkyAngle
@TheWonkyAngle Жыл бұрын
ahhhhh that's what you meant, giving a few recommendations in one single subgenre isn't nearly as daunting a task as a single "genre guide" for all of electronic music lol. tho generally if someone wants that kind of thing they just ask me "I like x artist and want to hear more along those lines" in a comment (like the person who asked for recommendations related to SFTG) and I just reply with a bunch of other stuff that they might like looking into
@UlyssesJonah

@@TheWonkyAngle i was very vague and said the rest in my head haha (always confusing people irl), yea that sounds very helpful and more practical, i will be asking you in the comments then thanks!! like i would love music like Discovery by Daft Punk with the crazy synth guitars (if its that) and melancholic melodies but without autotune! And congrats again on the milestone!!

You can still wear a t-shirt with paint on it. Used to have an Orb Factor 6 t-shirt back in the day and it got worn all the time, even when it got partly dyed by someone's digestive juices that were projectile vomited across a few of us from a few folk back. It was more reason to wear it. Cool video Mr. Wonky. Never fix that wall.

Old Gabber/Hardcore techno tend to have a bit tamer kicks compare to their modern counterpart (just called hardcore or new school gabber) and a lot of it's apeal is how loud and aggressive it is and modern hardcore tend to borrow some ideas from hardstyle. Modern hardcore don't have as absurdly overdriven kicks as hardstyle but they can get pretty dumb at times.

Regarding the iPod Classic (21:55), have you looked into modding it with a bigger SD card? I've replaced the hard drive in mine with a 400GB card and it's a lifesaver. Even makes the iPod lighter! It's definitely not EASY to do, but so worth it to squeeze another decade out of the device (hopefully).

38:27 You’re KIDDING. You co-wrote those Ace Attorney case ranking videos?! The odds must be a million to one… WOW. I happened upon this channel when searching for a review of “DrukQs” and have watched those AA videos completely independently of this. That’s mind-boggling. Would love to hear you and your brother share your thoughts on The Great Ace Attorney games, as those are the best in the series in my eyes. EDIT: AND you’ve done YTPs?? I’m reminded of Neil Cicierega - a modern-day multi-talent threat whose presence is uniquely tied to online spaces in a way that was never previously possible. 32:43 i think it's easy to see why people think you don't like it, even beyond Spirit, you said Vulnicura was your least favourite Bjork album, in your Geogaddi review you said the album shrunk on you due to it being depressing, and as well as you not being a big fan of Clark's Playground in a Lake
@TheWonkyAngle
@TheWonkyAngle Жыл бұрын
well, sure, but those people would still obviously be boiling down my actual points in a reductive way that skips over the greater nuances, my point still stands about the turnoffs in these cases always being something else other than merely being a downer. Vulnicura being my least favorite Bjork album has a lot more to do with it not being as sonically interesting to me than it does the actual subject matter being explored, Playground In A Lake was merely very uneven to me and I distinctly remember the most intensely dark and despondent moments of the album at the end being easily the best part of it, and Geogaddi I still rated an 8.7/10 and put on my favorites of all time list in 2016, I suspect that comment about it shrinking on me in my review really stemmed from me giving it too many listens to the point of getting sick of it before writing the script (and possibly me scraping to find some kind of justification for why MHTRTC didn't do the same). depressing music can often not be as easy to come back to for repeat listens but that doesn't mean I enjoy it less specifically for that, just look at my most recent positive review of Duntisbourne Abbots for another counterexample
@malakai9738
