The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die has pulled together an undeniably solid indie rock album on this debut LP of theirs. If you like your vocals incredibly emotional--and slightly wimpy--this should appeal!
What did you think of this album? Love it? Hate it? Why? What should I review next, eh?

i think the sloppiness of the vocals really contribute to the album rather than take away from it; they give it a more personal feel

Brennan Vessel y'all hit the nail right on the head. WIFE (the electronic project of ex Altar of Plagues headman James Kelly) said he was more influenced by vocalists than singers, which holds true for emo, i believe.

What I really like about TWiaBP is that they are capable of the lofty, dense emotional expression of their post-rock influences while keeping it grounded in the suburban everyman aesthetic, subject matter, and lyricism of emo. Another great band like that is The Brave Little Abacus. Anyone who really likes this album or this band's music in general should give TBLA's sophomore LP Just Got Back From the Discomfort... a listen.

What are your favorite "emo"records? I can assume bands like Rites of Spring, considering I constantly see their record staring at me from the background, but considering the sheer abundance of albums coming out in the genre, there is a lot to go through.

I really liked this album. Sent here by the band's tumblr, solid review. I'm a fan of the whole "twinkly emo" thing, though, so maybe that's why I got into it easier than you did. I'd like to hear your opinions on some other twinkly bands, maybe Dads. Their newest album, "American Radass (this is important)" is very solid, and the band is just so interesting. Subscribed c:

They just played here at a new fest called "It's a Spring Fling" with like 12 bands. Xerxes was also playing and Pianos Become the Teeth. It was at a local bowling alley! Sold out though, bummed I missed it ...would like to see these guys live let alone Pianos and Xerxes.

Fair review! I think bands like this and others affiliated with them (touché amore, deer leap, one hundred year ocean, tigers jaw, etc.) are putting a new face on indie rock! Definitely agree with the modest mouse outlook, though think it's more similar to interstate 8 ep. All around great band and review ;)

+Jonathan Merkt yes! It's amazing, way better than anything they've done imo. I like Whenever, If Ever, but it didn't really hook me on these guys. Like theneedledrop said, the vocals sometimes really turned me off from it, especially when they were trying to harmonize and shit... The new album's vocals are phenomenal!

I've only gave it a couple casual listens so far, but I really dig this album. I agree with the vocals, they can be rough to hear at times( I think the vocals on their other eps' were a bit better). Pretty much in the same boat rating-wise as you are, though i think with some more listens, mine will go up. Great review.

Anthony thank you for finally reviewing an emo album! I really enjoyed what you had to say and I personally feel the record to be a 9 but that's just because I'm more inclined towards liking the whiny vocals and twinkly guitars. This album is awesome. Probably my top AOTY contender so far, just like You Blew It! was last year by this month (similar music style, too). The vocals don't bother me, in fact are part of the fun; I appreciate the passion in them, and I value that much more than the perfected approach that professional singers have. I swear some of this songs inject LIFE essence directly into me. That's what music should always be like.

Requested it before and got a response, but I'd still really love to see a review of TesseracT's Altered State album. After actually having listened to it a bunch, I can conclude that it barely counts as djent anymore at all, just some form of ethereal prog metal. There's a lot to talk about, so give it a chance? :) If only for those sweet ass sax solos~

The distressed vocals were always a very genre defining aspect of midwest-emo, but you should check out The Anniversary's- "Designing a Nervous Breakdown" for an older band. For more recent shit you'll probably love the new Their / They're / There debut EP and certain tracks from Hop Along's- "Get Disowned". Hell, I do.

I think the whiny vocals on this album can get a little annoying after awhile. It's not that I dislike whine, but that I think the band oversaturated the songs with it and put whining into places unnecessarily. Overall, I think the album is pretty good, but would have been even better had they cut back on the whining so that it's not too overbearing or even melodramatic.

Tom used to always record two vocals for twiabps songs, but they used to always get the pitched voice as the backing vocals, and in this album it's the opposite, maybe that's why some people are complaining about vocals but come on it's an emo band
