Despite liking my Krystal… yeah, in a way I can see where the designer was coming from. Compared to every other dark-skinned doll I have, it’s quite noticeable that her skintone was a last-minute revision, rather than an integral part of her design. Every other dark-skinned RH doll I’ve seen has a “pop” factor that comes from the careful pairing of hair, skin and eye color. With Krystal, that “pop” is imo more noticeable in her mid-tone prototype than in her final doll. Her hair blend was designed to complement a different skin tone. Put her next to Daria, Michelle, or Coco (all designed with dark skin from the get-go), and she looks noticeably less striking. Obviously the real issue is that series 2 should have had a dark-skinned doll from the get-go (really, series 1 should have had one). Revising Krystal is better than nothing, but it shouldn’t have been necessary in the first place. Just boot Amaya or River.
