Salcedo Auctions expresses its utmost gratitude as we are thrilled to announce the outstanding results of yesterday’s The Well-Appointed Life auction, with Vicente Manansala’s ‘Vendors’ (1978) leading the way, soaring to Php 17,240,000 - well exceeding its pre-sale estimate - its price being matched by Ronald Ventura’s ‘Beasty Eyes’ (2021), in a superlative outcome for contemporary Philippine art.
As has become the norm at Salcedo Auctions, world records were once again set for master sculptor Ramon Orlina and, in a tour-de-force showing, by the master abstractionist Romulo Olazo. The former’s two glass sculptures from the collection of the Tower Club each sold for Php 7,592,000, while Salcedo has now set the bar for the record for both size and overall price by Olazo with the 48 x 48 inch ‘Diaphanous 71719’ achieving Php 11,680,000 and the 42 x 84 inch ‘Diaphanous B-CXIVIII’ climbing to Php 14,016,000. Other superlative results included Mauro Malang Santos’ ‘Yellow Vendor’ selling at an astonishing Php 11,096,000, the two 1957 early works from the ‘Bananas’ series by Ang Kiukok from the Phillips collection selling at a combined total of Php 9,110,400.
Expect the Philippine art market to again adjust its prices based solely on Salcedo Auctions’ verifiable and realistic results as the undisputed barometer of the Philippine art market.
