The first-in-class aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) steams in the Atlantic Ocean, sailors conducts flight operations on the flight deck of the ship, is the lead ship of her class of United States Navy aircraft carriers. The nuclear-powered USS Gerald R Ford (CVN-78) is the world’s biggest aircraft carrier, the largest warship ever built in terms of displacement and one of the biggest ships in the world. It is certainly the most expensive US ship.

Spent a lot of time on the flight deck of the uss enterprise as a red shirt "Ordnanceman" in the 80's. What an unforgettable experiance. I still think of it daily 30 years later.

If you want to know what it's like to go up against a US carrier battle group, find the biggest wasp nest you can find and swat to with your hand, the nest won't do shit, it won't have to, they own the air.

We fabricated all of the haul components at the company I retired from. From bow to stern, port to starboard, for 78 and 79. The service life is designed for fifty years. It was a good job to work on.

Proud To Be an American ! My Father in law was a bomader in WW11. He was a short man and had polio in one leg. Didn't phase him. My daughter has his flag now. He, they lived in San Antonio. He retired, after being in civil service all his later life 🇺🇲

I too served in the USNavy from 1978 to 1982 aboard the USS Midway stationed in Japan. My next assignment was aboard the USS Bruten(?) FF1086 fast frigate placed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. I would certainly have enjoyed serving more time in our USN. But I was discharged OTH. My fault for having to leave. So Thank you for allowing me to share, if even a little bit, of my experiences. No WW2 era Navy had nuclear carriers, and winning the war almost bankrupted the UK. They could not have afforded to build a carrier fleet.

@@roberthudson1959 I did not say during WW2,i said post WW2, it allowed it self to be too dependent on the US MILITARY,which is ironic considering thee USA is a former British Colony. A fatal mistake of not having Nuclear Powered Carrier considering it's a bulwark against authoritarianism. Another fatal mistake is them leaving the EU,Damn Brexit.

On 1-14-23 I was awakened by my weapons officer 1st class Sionni of a hostile intent coming at a high rate of speed. I immediately went to the bridge to get some type of radio conversation. I herd nothing back after several attempts. I ordered my weapons officer to lock n load the B1block, one last attempt was made to no avail. I deemed this as a hostile and suicidal attempt and ordered a volley of 4,000 30 mm rounds stopping the deadly threat immediately. I depose & say I am rear admiral Albert LABonte a 34 year combat war veteran. I will do anything to protect the men and women of my ship. LIVE FROM THE LARGEST CARRIER GROUP ON THE GLOBE. FORWARD MARCH

I like your hilarious reply to the comment above ! On 1 of the previous answers ,I did serve aboard the USS Midway from about mid summer (?) 1978 to my next assignment aboard the USS Brewton placed in Hawaii until I had to leave our military in late August 1982. i am a Navy veteran,73-79,I was not on a carrier,I was on a destroyer stationed in Yokosuka, Japan,life on a “tin can” is whole lot different,smaller crew,everbody knew everyone,plus we got to go a lot of places that the carrier couldn’t (to big),the carrier was the USS MIDWAY-CV 41,the destroyer i was on came back stateside &got de-commissioned in Jan76-,my EAOS was up September 76,I am so glad i joined,got tons&tons of memories on that ship,something money cant buy,being a NAVY veteran 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇯🇵
