@@cpvlogger3480 Replica comes across as less harsh and demeaning. Words hold power. Also, I believe a proper synonym for a replica would be the word 'copy'. Many buyers have been duped by fakes and lost thousands, even millions.

@@iamlizardz The works they are copying are classical works in the public domain. There's no permission to be gotten. Doing master copies of artworks is a longstanding artistic tradition. As an art school graduate, that's assuming you did fine painting and is successful. Most art school students I know did practical design modelled off the Bauhaus school and work for wages. Also a lot of students end up doing minor commission pieces for less than 1K most their lives. It's true there's less opportunities in China but there are Chinese artists in the Fine Arts world going to Art Basel and stuff making millions off a piece. Also I come from Canada, but honestly I find some Chinese institutions are closer to American levels of prestige, wealth, and popularity than other western countries (*cough* Canada *cough*)

Fake, replicas, reproductions, fakes - it's still in violation of most western countries' Copyright and other laws, especially for artists who passed in the last 70-75 years. The narrator did use the phrase "near perfect replicas". Just sayin...

Yes, and that's still a teaching method in art schools today. The difference is the student artists are "copying" to learn not as a job selling them.

The people selling these paintings online make more money than the painters. I was asked to sell some online. I decided to just learn how to paint and just be a poor artist.

You know whats ironic. Van goghs great grand nephew, theo van gogh, named after his great grandfather, did become famous. He was a film director, but was mostly well known as a vocal critic and almost authoritative figure on the issue of islamic integration in netherlands and free speech. @@00Julian00 Even food thrives on the principle of originality and creativity. The great food classics we have today were once original - and can be appreciated as such. However, the chef who continues to proffer up barbecue sauce and spare ribs, will certainly delight a certain sector of the restaurant-going population, but his lack of creativity and originality will hardly mark him down as a great discoverer or gastronomic genius. Nothing wrong with munching down on a burger - just don't call it haute cuisine. Same goes for art. Technical skill is important, of course - but it is only one fifth of what is needed. It is the difference between an acrobat and a prima ballerina. The acrobat will make you say "Gosh - that was impressive." The prima ballerina, however, may induce in the viewer a lasting cathartic experience of life-changing depth. Mere technical skill is nothing without creativity. I can teach a student to draw realistically in six months (6 weeks if he or she has natural talent). But once they have that skill, if they spend the rest of their lives drawing photo-realistic pictures of gormless, angsty teenagers, I would consider my lessons a failure. If you get stuck in the "technical skill only" trap, you are in danger of entering that giant hamster wheel of sterility, and all progress, innovation, creativity, and intellectual and philosophical progress, halts. Certainly, if you just tell people "Just be creative!" you will just have poo smeared on the wall. There must be balance.

I still dont agree with the Extremeness of the first comment ( for instance ,unless one more informed about figure skating tells me the contrary, it seems we are still justifiably appreciating and giving value to something( that is, its not without mérito as ur first comment implies) that hasnt seen significant changes in a couple of décadas, simply because the technical skill required is unrreachble except to a very few with sufficient dedicación..and its beautiful to see wat we humans can push ourselve to do)but alas... i wont press any further. On another note.. In regards to food, i sincerely hope that we can agree that the pursuit of originality and creativity in food should have as its principal focus deliciousness ( to a large extent cultural, though not completely) and health. That is, the chefs who have succeded in creatively pursuing new forms of say, even an old "format"( ie ramen, Chacuterie, a tikka masala) with the final aim of a more delicious product should have infinetely more respect and value than the enormous quantity of chefs these days ( who happen to run fancy establishments)who seek what seems to be an aimless originality that has overlookedTASTE (and health.) If we can agree that the food worlds creative endeavours are truly only valuable wen the final product has deliciousness on its mind ( although there is something to be said about the very real nostalgia felt upon eating certain old dishes, if a more intelectual emocion is what we want to focus on) what for you should be the main objective of ones creativity and originality in painting? To bring forth a certainemocional response? Awe at the technical mastery of a certain technique?? ....... .

Well that depends on your definition. Clearly they have the technical skill. I cant do what they do. Most cant. Imagine if they grew up with wealth, privilege, and access to those in positions of cultural power . I get your greater point about originality, but to be creative can at times be a luxury that not all can afford to pursue.
