My wife has a 16 trailhawk and I can honestly say its the nicest driving transmission I have ever uses, very quick shifts, responsive, no over shifting or hunting for gears, no delays or hard shifts. We tow a single axle trailer with 2-3500lbs often as well. Must have gotten a good one.

I start on the assembly line for this transmission in three days from now. can't wait, Zf looks like a great company.

I not had any of these issues with my ZF-9. Then again I bought my Trailhawk in 2017 so these major problems were resolved. Now this doesn't change the fact that it uses x2 Dog-Clutch's one being on the 5th gear which can cause a minor delay in downshifting while on the highway. Other than that the Software with it's self learning AI has worked very good. It will never perform like the ZF-8 but that's ok. Honda/Acura and Range rover never did get the ZF-9 working right since they gave up on it. So I understand if you have the TLX from ACURA how pissed oyu must be. Thank god Chrysler never gave up on the ZF-9. They even helped ZF design a new revised 9 speed for 2020 with all the faults removed(no more Dog clutches and they increased the length of the trans) and the 9th gear will actually be used.

We bought a new Jeep Cherokee in 2015 with this transmission......if I knew then the problems we would have with no remedy, I would have never purchased it!!! Big mistake!

One of the best transmissions out there. Do not take it to your car dealer to service . Take to ZF dealer. They know how to correctly service it.

Dealer agrees transmission "flutters" at low rpm range approx 1200 to 1500/ 30 to 45 mph. "Flutter"? The whole car shakes. Dealer reloaded software. They want me to drive the car for a couple of weeks to learn my driving traits; see whether the "flutter" diminishes or stops. don't hold much hope this problem will self correct. We will see. Acura's adds assert "Precision Crafted Performance".

Do i need to change oil or not?

What went wrong? Mine is nowhere near as faultless as this presentation suggests. Huge delays on kickdown when the (diesel) engine overrevs. Unpredictable pull away if you use too much throttle. It verges on being dangerous at times.

Was this transmission designed with towing in mind?

I have a 9 speed auto in my ram van and it sucks. I feel every shift and it's not smooth. Brought it to a transmission shop and they told me I shouldn't mess with it till it's fully broken because those transmission are not worth working on.

How strong is the ZF 6 speed automatic transmission used in the Ford Ranger, Jeep Cherokee and Range Rover? Is it strong and reliable enough to tow a 3 tonne trailer every day for the life of the car??

ZF 9HP in my 2015 Acura TLX sucks. Grinds and continuously searches for the right gear between 1300 and 1600 rpm. Dealer has no ideas how to fix. I don't have my permanent plates yet and I'm wondering what I can get for trade in.

The ZF8 in BMW is better to drive then ZF9 in JEEP. MUCH better.

Yep after 4 years the damn thing is giving a code in my jeep that the mechanics says calls for a replace transmission/ I still owe $5000 on the car and will have to pay maybe more than that to get another transmission.? Yeah it performed rather well for 4 years but come on? That's why they are pushing those expensive warranties for the DT on this trans.

Have this in a Jeep Cherokee, it takes 2 to 3 seconds to downshift if you push the gas pedal to the floor, almost got rear ended because of this while changing lanes, it's an AWFUL transmission!

I see from a comment below from Peter, that they redesigned the transmission in 2020. Will the 2020 transmission fit in a 2015 Cherokee??

the big question is how much HP can it handle? can it take 1200HP? that's what I need it to handle and have Honda's SH-AWD and have paddle shift.

I have a range rover evoque 2014 2.2 sd4 140kw with 9hp48 gearbox 132000km. Gearbox is kicking 2-3 gear. Don't know the reason. Need to check it.

mi coche un jeep cherokee kl con motor 2.2 diesel y cambio de 9 velocidades me ha dado problemas. el cambio me hacia los cambios de marcha con brusquedad sobre todo de primera a la segunda velocidad. con 80000 kms he tenido que cambiar el aceite de la transmision y se ha notado ligera mejoria en el cambio de velocidades. la caja de valvulas ya estaria atascada con cambio que un aceite que supuestamente es para toda la vida y no necesita mantenimiento. Es muy fuerte que el filtro no se pueda cambiar ya que es necesario desmontar todo el cambio y su interior. un filtro exterior hubiera sido una buena opcion asi como el tapon de drenaje disponer de imanes para recoger la viruta. vuestro cambio si necesita mantenimiento, y vuestros ingenieros se deben poner más las pilas

Zf9 on my Jeep Cherokee 15 is rubbish. I believe issues are not present on most other cars (not from FCA } and I would say FCA doesn't now how to tune the transmission for adaptation. And they are used to test the cars on the poor consumer.

Now it's 2020 and the horror stories abound on the internet class action suits with jeep won't shift from 1st to second jumps to 3rd. Car shuts down they have no fix and just keep cranking out. Cars with this junk

These transmissions suck! Totally garbage! Crazy shifting, horrible experience, always at dealership and so disappointed ZF was engaged for transmissions. This is the worst!!! RUNNING would be more effective.

It is a really horrible transmission. Would not buy it again...! "Hardly notice gear changed..." please that's a lie.
