@Luke Did you think that a country would just hand out $100s of billions out of their kindness of their hearts?? Nigeria is not the only country they're helping to build and develop. THe idea is that they would have a long term working relationship. As their economy grows, then so does the trade between the countries. Unlike, any other country that has gone into Africa, China's loans don't come with a lot of strings and they subsidize a lot of projects with their own money and technology. So call it what you like.

Precisely. I have no use for renewables that are no better or worse than what they're attempting to replace (Planet of the Humans brings 'light' to that industry but neglects to mention nuclear as well). Nuclear is the ONLY currently available method to meet energy demands without the pollution. Like it or not. I live in Canada, solar is useless 9 months of the year, wind is far too intermittent and both have energy storage shortcomings. Hydro isn't plentiful enough and causes ecological destruction. Biofuels are massively destructive to the forests and geothermal is spotty at best. NUCLEAR is the ONLY realistic, efficient and effective source to keep the lights on. I'm all for decreasing pollution (technology has helped tremendously with limiting the amount of pollution the last several years), but the solution MUST be at least 50% less harmful than current methods or it's pointless with the growing population (although that's looking to decrease in the near future anyway, not increase [Musk and others have discussed this issue at length]). Places like India and China need to clean up their acts big time, or all the efforts of everyone else combined, will matter not regardless. Those are facts, not feelings nor an uninformed opinion.

@@RickL_was_here Have you been in Africa before? Most of Africa country are hot 360/365. And when i say hot i mean really around 30 degree. So solar may not work in canada but take all his sense in africa and is likely to be africa only hope. Even tho nuclear come to a successful end Africa cannot afford to buil those central for now.
@RickL_was_here
@RickL_was_here 4 жыл бұрын
@@kf1570 No, but I read that my ancestors came from there. 😏 I understand how difficult it must be but I still think there would need to be a better alternative. With the short lifespan of solar and batteries, one would think that, that money could be put to something more sustainable and efficient. Short term, solar obviously makes sense but I believe there's far more important issues that need to be resolved in Africa first, regardless. I have a friend who was born in North Africa (lives here in Canada now, in the oil province no less), and he mentions how bad things are there, the corruption is rampant. If things are ever going to improve there, the citizens need to come together and make the changes they want to see themselves. Tuck and run, isn't a solution... I'm moving too far off topic now. The world is working hard for alternative localized solutions but it's only a matter of time before nuclear power becomes mainstream, even small scale. Things need to, and will, improve.

It's important to learn from history and by doing so you will notice that the same would have happened to Russia too even after the collaps of the Soviet Union if it wasn't now lying on top of all the military power left over from the former Soviet Union.

Great video; however, please do not spread misconceptions about nuclear energy. This kind of energy source is one of the most reliable, and although there have been some disasters in the past, overall the number of deaths caused by producing one Kwh from nuclear is the lowest. I typed this for a previous comment. Mega projects are inherently political. Politics is about the distribution of resources in a country and to dedicate so many resources to these projects adds an unavoidable factor of politics. I’ve seen many in the comments saying to leave the politics out of this video, but if you were to leave the politics out, then it would become an automatic endorsement of these mega projects and the various interests behind them. You have to include it in order to get a well balanced approach to covering this topic

Private auto highways aren’t the answer. You can never outpace demand. Just because it worked in the past in the US (where it’s no longer working) to efficiently move large sums of citizens, doesn’t mean it is the solution for India. They should focus on high speed rail for long distance intercity connections, and BRT, Subway, and multi-use non-auto lanes (bike, e-bikes and scooters, walk, etc.) Many, many Indians are far too poor to afford private autos and would only add to their congestion issues.

The Daily Conversation How about the future of City's? Here in Stuttgart, Germany (where the car was invented) they discuss about banning cars (only diesel yet) due to the huge pollution and MASSIVE traffic but then again the public transport is already on its limits. Would be interesting how cities will need to deal with it and especially what would be a good balance between cars vs pedestrians and streets vs parks in the City centre etc

There's a lot of projects being undertaken right now in Central Europe, mostly in Poland. A lot of roads and railways are being built.I won't go into specifics but you can find a lot of information on the internet.For a fact i know that the Polish government plans to dig through the so called "Mierzeja Wiślana" or "Vistula Spit" in english, in order to boost trade and commerce in nearby towns like Elbląg.There's a lot more of those kinds of projects though, surely you can cover some. If you decide to make the video, you can contact me. I'll be more than happy to provide you with information concerning the projects in the region, as I live in Poland.

There was one idea that peaked my interest, although each of these held interest to me, the breakthrough star shot mission was very interesting! Especially the speed, 3 days to the edge of the solar system is amazing. But, one thing I know is to never depend on people, especially with their first time ideas.

What are you saying? The plan to connect our 4 major cities was put in place after 2000. It's been a huge improvement from then. And our country cannot make plans like China, demolishing villages at once or like US putting out an executive order. If a single lawsuit is filed in our country, the project has to be stopped unless the court gives verdict. Even with such difficulties, gradual improvements have taken place. Don't talk nonsense if you don't know the whole story.

I'm watching this in 2020 and I got to see the 2019 Rose Bowl in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The experience was absolutely amazing. At some sports arenas you see stale, basic nachos going for 10 dollars for a small container. There, it was 3 dollars for a different type of nachos and a much larger serving. It connectivity to the Phillips Center and the rest of downtown is amazing. Sadly I didn't get to see the dome opening, but it was amazing nonetheless.
