My dad was stationed at DM in the early 70's. When we were there it was a high security base. The U2 pilots trained there. My dad used to work on the F4, F111, and then later in his career the F15. Such a shame to see all those aircraft sitting like that, but at least they are put to good use for something. God bless those that flew them. And a shout out to our military. Thank you for your service.

When I see aircraft in a place like this I think of the people, over many decades, who flew them. My husband often talks of the young men he met when he was a boy visiting the Airshows in Moncton New Brunswick, Canada. This was in the early 1970's and many of these young people flew B-52's in Vietnam. The young men he met were fine representatives of their country and so interested in showing the airplane they flew to a fascinated young boy. Naturally he wonders what their lives were like in the years that followed.

It always makes me sad to see those birds being chomped up, seem like it hurts it after it took care of us and we just crunch her up, hell I get to attached I guess, I talk to my plane, touch her, ask her how she's doing today, oh well.

They have a policy that at least two people have to go out together to work on an aircraft. This goes back to an incident where someone went out alone to pull a part and never came back. When they went looking for him they found him laying dead on the ground under the airplane. He had gone inside and a rattlesnake had gotten in there and it bit him. He passed out and died before he could get help.

I actually had tears when I found out she was there and I saw a photo of her and that made it worse. She was still At Robins AFB when I retired in 1992. Wish I had her in my back yard.

With many of the birds you see going into AMARG, that's precisely what you're looking at. From the standpoint of the USAF, for example, the youngest B-52 was built in 1962. The youngest KC-135 was built in 1965. The C-5M is a modernization of the C-5 Galaxy, which had last rolled off the line in 1989. The last F-15C/D models were built in 1985. The last legacy C-130 in service is the H3, which were built between 92 and 96, although the H models date back to 1964. Those aircraft are still in operational service. With the overall age of the USAF fleet, our aircraft benefit on a daily basis from parts regenerated from AMARG, and will continue to do so after all of those previously mentioned birds are retired to the Boneyard.

@petersmith7126
@petersmith7126 5 жыл бұрын
Pat it saves the tax payer money as not every aircraft sent is at the end of its flying life ... Many were sent under the terms of the SALT agreement with the USSR with the reduction in numbers of operational B52 bombers being a prime example ... The aircraft in storage proved invaluable as aircraft written off in accidents of that had reached their end of flight life could be replaced by ones from here ... If you'd actually watch and listen to the video you'd realise that they also provide an invaluable source of spare parts that are no longer manufactured anymore ... Just because an aircraft has maybe exceeded its flight life it doesn't mean that every part on it is scrap ....many parts have years of life left in them to keep other aircraft flying

Most expensive plane in the United States Air Force's Arsenal to operate per hour and only has a ready rate of 50% since I have so many inherent flaws plus they are highly inefficient fuel wise. They need a massive upgrade to get rid of the stupid electrical flaws that played them so much the Congress only authorize enough to do 42 of them so there's another damn near hundred of them sitting in the Boneyard.
@jrftworth
@jrftworth 5 жыл бұрын
@@deannelson9565 That's not true. The C-5M has a mission capable rate of 65% not 50 %. Secondly the mission capable rate of a aircraft is not based entirely on the aircraft and its design. It has a lot to do with the Air Forces budget, number of trained personnel to maintain aircraft, and mission tempo. Since the U.S. went back into Iraq in 2003, continued operations in Afghanistan and the fight against isis in Iraq and Syria, our aircraft are being flown much more.

For spare parts to keep the other B-1s flyable. Since they're supersonic bombers, their air frames get worn out quicker than other bombers.

B-1 is old. It was a very unpopular aircraft until the iraq wars then people where all cool plane and so people may not realize how old they are due to lack of popularity.

@@trkayani4949 the RAF sell theirs off straight away. There's no old f4s, harriers, electric lightenings, tornados, jaguars or buccaners waiting for the day they are called into action. Russia does it, but I'm sure they've nothing as capable as the f16, f15, f18 sitting around in mothballs.

@@negan_lq9499 I think most Russian mig 29s have been retired due to their aging airframes after many crashes. They might only have 100 mig 29s left and those haven't been updated since the collapse of the Soviet union. Russia doesn't produce enough aircraft like the mig29 to mothball them. Plenty of mothballed mig21s

@Tom H. no man you're completely wrong, that's in fact, the problem, the inequality is horrendous, 80% of the country earn less than US$800 at month, the supermarket, the stores generally are more expensive than US for the same products, more expensive than Australia or Canada. The seniors people has the most higher rate of suicide in the country, the "Far Sightedness" of the Dictator/Theft/Killer/Torturer and rapist of Pinochet. Left a legacy of poverty between the oldest ones, after a live of work, when a Senior wants to retire, they earn less than a 1/3 of the salary they used to earn. And only civilian has that kind of retirement, the Military/Navy/Cops/Air force has the same salary... Can you call it fair? Its a shitty country who has a great economy, but between a few.

Sad to see f-4's get back into flying condition only to get shot down, I'm sure they'll be doing that with f-14's too. : (

Training aircrew is a noble end for an airframe. "Only to get shot down" trivializes a very important test and training use for obsolete aircraft! Tomcats were worn out (carrier landings aren't kind to airframes) and too expensive to convert for remote-manned use. The QF-16 program replaced the QF-4 as the F-15 is much easier and less expensive to modify and maintain. There are plenty of F-4s in museums for those wanting to see them. I worked on Bronco, Phantom (69th Dragons, Moody AFB) and F-16 but I don't mourn them because their replacements are superior weapon systems. Combat aircraft exist to kill the enemy and break their stuff.

@@obfuscated3090 Yeah true, but I think we should still keep a lot of them in flying condition. Or give the public a chance to buy them. I'd rather see them flying than in a museum.
