8:53 the tram that has just passed is the tram that the municipality of Milan wanted to dedicate to Carla Fracci, a great dancer who died a short time ago. the line on which she is in service was not chosen at random, obviously it is one of the most beautiful lines in all of Milan, which passes next to the theater where Carla was trained, but there is also another reason, in fact her father was a tram driver and drove a model 28 tram, and every time he passed in front of the "Alla Scala" theater he always rang the bell, a small gesture that is repeated by this special tram.

Great video! Just a couple of corrections: 1:42 the name "Ventotto" ('28) is actually inappropriate, although being vastly used, since the two prototypes were built in 1927, and the other 500 cars between 1929 and 1930. 9:00 the original livery was the same one used today (officially "giallo crema", creamy yellow), but after a couple of years it was replaced by the green livery, imposed on all public transport by the Fascism. In the '70s the new "arancio ministeriale" (orange) was applied on all trams (San Francisco units were sold with this livery), and very recently (late 2000s, early 2010s) ATM decided to restore the old "giallo crema" on almost all the remaining units.

Hi Good video i love old trams. Here is some interesting thing: In Pilsen in the Czech Republic we have a tram that dates from 1899, but due to the age and construction of the car, the tram can be operated as a museum and only in good weather. But even so, despite all this, the tram appears on historic rides through the city.

I rode one of the wooden trams in San Francisco on their F Line. It was interesting ride. A lot of the ads were untouch and still in Italiano. Even had a small Italian flag hanging off the roof. I think San Fran has 8 of them. The rest of their fleet are older American streetcars and one Spanish Tatra Tram.

@@NonstopEurotrip Yeah, consider that I haven’t been to SF since 2 years so I don’t know if they changed anything meanwhile. In late 2019 they were still in service (as Daniel said) they mainly run around the area of Embarcadero / Financial District. It could be common to see them around Market St. It’s a completely different service from the Cable Cars going up and down the hills that every tourist has in his mind, which is mostly a tourist attraction even though is used by many residents.

If you're looking for another item for your bucket list I can highly recommend riding the HSB up to the Brocken. It's a narrow gauge railway going to the top of the biggest mountain north of the Alps, and almost exclusively uses steam trains in daily operation. As it is near the former border between East and West Germany there's also lots of interesting history and cold war era infrastructure at the summit.

I'm surprised the Italians named anything after Luigi Cadorna who was possibly the most incompetent army leader in the whole of WWI and that's saying something. His father and son, both named Raffaele are more praiseworthy in Italian history. Raffaele the elder was a general in the reunification wars and born in Milan. He led the troops that took Rome.
@agiosromylos1315
@agiosromylos1315 2 жыл бұрын
This is actually a good point and many Italians (myself included) support removing Cadorna's name from most streets/stations (especially places like Milan's largest metro interchange...). I assume at some point in the future it will happen, he really is not someone that we should celebrate, there are many WW1 leaders who would be much more worthy of such honours (Major Ettore Martini, for instance).

While I can not speak to Italy's rules, as someone who is certified to operate the American streetcars of the 1920-1960's through one of the museums that I volunteered with, the ringing of the bell is to communicate what the operator is about to do with people and alert the people that are around the unit. The two operators that I am familiar with and sadly no longer exist did use a points system, you would gain points for safe operation and lose points for unsafe operation. The points could be turned in for days off, vacation and other benefits. While the the points that you lose would go to the number of hours spent in retraining. It is my understanding that many operators adopted a similar practice however I can not confirm that information.

Cracking video mate. We have very similar trams in Melbourne that are still running. They sound exactly the same. Our look a little wider though. They are fantastic to still have around. I know that they used to run them on a "loop" track around and through the city of Melbourne. They were aimed at tourists and people could get on and off when ever the wanted at no charge. But they ended up being used more by people that worked in the city to get from one end to the other. Keep up the good work.

Pity for the distancing restrictions, because the way of driving the tram is very curious to watch (but maybe you showed it in some other video). There is also a tram which is a moving restaurant (although a bit of a tourist trap, you can also book it for private celebrations and parties). Thank you for sharing this video on the old trams of Milan. Another interesting line is that one along the Naviglio grande, from " Darsena di Milano " ( the old harbour of MIlan ) toward Cesano Boscone,. Wonderfool view : from downtown to country neighbours . On the right side you can see the little church of Saint Chistoforo , of the XII ° century. Milano , beloved city . the only city in Italy that mathces eureopean living standard . In my mind is alwais the night sound of old tram running near home, in piazzale Lagosta .

If you love these vintage trams then you must try the Atmosfera tram while you are in Milan. It's a restaurant service run by ATM (the public transportation company of Milan) that takes place on a modified tram. It uses one of these vintage trams and it takes you around the city while you eat. I heard it's quite expensive and you need to book it in advance but it may be worth it :D

@@NonstopEurotrip Here, nonstop eurotrip, the Internet has been down for a week, I have not had any access to the Internet since. They're doing big neighborhood repairs, nobody's online. We were given a small device while waiting for it to be fixed (we don't know when), but the speed is really slow. We were given this little box today. To continue, in addition to these connection problems that affect the whole neighborhood, the fiber has been installed incorrectly. They fixed it to the wall, they have to come back to re-install it, but only when the work is finished to repair the Internet. My connection is beyond slow. I am suffering. A week to bore, hell. I have never been so long without the Internet. It's horrible

@@NonstopEurotrip So, excuse me, nonstop eurotrip, but we still haven't been given the connection. 11 days of hardship without the Internet. Just a very small connection, where I even find it difficult to write to you. The technicians on the phone initially said it's from the neighborhood, then from the building, but now they don't know if it's from our house or not. In fact, they said it doesn't come from you, we don't know where it comes from. A technician will come Monday afternoon and a woman on the phone Tuesday. I'm bad without the Internet. In addition, I have an appointment with a doctor on Monday morning, mom has to take me there, I have very strong myopia and glaucoma. I hate not being able to see your videos. When I put to watch, every three seconds, it "cuts". It downloads three seconds, then it cuts out, then we feel that the download resumes for 15 seconds, and I have access to 3 new seconds. I can't see the videos like that, it's inconvenient. I can't wait to see your videos. I think of you. Friendships.

The ones that ran in Brooklyn and Queens in NYC had better seats that were made of leather with padding and had subway style handles to hold on to when the trolley was running during rush hours. They were retired in the early 1950s before I was born. I am a New Yorker.

Great trams indeed! Which one did you liked most: Lisbon trams or Milan trams? In Lisbon we had even older trams in service until 1996. Unfortunately they were scraped with the arrival of modern trams. A big mistake since now is frequent to see 4 wheelers on 15e route and the are usually overcrowded.

11:25 i guess you were being ironic when you put "high speed" in brackets and joked about them not reaching 300km/h, but I am not sure about the "run by Italo part". That tram isn't run by Italo, it's run by ATM (Azienda Trasporti Milanesi) like all the trams in Milan, which is a publicly-owned company. It had written Italo all over the place becaue it's an ad. Maybe you had already figured it out and you were joking about that too, but you never know ahahaha. Great video anyway!

The sliding doors were not elecrified and had to be opened by the ticket inspector at every stop. They still have 12 running on the zero fare city circle route, used by Melbournians every day (and yes tourists ride them because of their age as well) including one of the first 1923 to 1926 production batch. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W-class_Melbourne_tram
