The World's Richest Man Is Fighting Amazon Workers Unionizing

It’s hard to overstate just how much Amazon has benefited from the pandemic. Jeff Bezos’s personal wealth grew by around $70 billion. Even if he gave every U.S. Amazon employee a one-time $100,000 bonus, he’d still be nearly as wealthy as he was before the COVID crisis. Now workers at this warehouse in Alabama are trying to form the first union in Amazon’s U.S. history, to fight for better working conditions and pay.

@svenm sandity thats not the problem, problem is if you get paid 9 or 10 dollar, and you get fired and you find a new job in 3 months you are paying 5 euro from youre own bank acount while you can only safe 1 to 5000 max a year.....so people work there for 3 years and leave with a debt😉 Also jobs like these make it impossible to do decent educations especially with the presure or with the fact that sometimes they even put computer headsets on people there heads, and if you got brains, you got no braincell left after that for a normal school, its a s tiring as a 18 hour shift if you work 8 hours like this.people only eat, smoke and sleep when they come in this system

How about guaranteed time off, job security, guaranteed paternal leave for both parents, medical benefits, no mandatory overtime... Workers are exploited in many different ways. Besides just being underpaid, they are overworked and insured as commodities. 15$ minimum wage is a nice start, but no one should be satisfied with that. I've worked at Amazon and I can relate to the pain you go through walking around the warehouse. I worked at the food fresh and the bathroom breaks are insane. The physical labor you have to do for the majority of the shift and you only get two 15-minute breaks and a 30 minute break does not give your body any time to even remotely relax for you to have to go back to your shift until your time is done. The biggest issue that I saw when I was working at Amazon was the docked pay. I was only allowed to work a 5 hour shift but they would ask me towards the end of my shift if I could stay longer to work I did it a few times until I looked at my time card and they docked me the extra hour that I stayed because I didn't take a lunch even though we do take a 30-minute lunch I'm going over the time recommended so therefore they took the hour away from me and took money away from me. When I went to the management in 2 HR and explain to them what was going on and why they're docking my pay and how I can see that they are docking my pay they were telling me know that is not true it's California law that we have to follow by but I live in Texas California law does not apply in Texas. This guy truly needs to be stopped before he seriously has a death on his hands because the physical labor is so intense you might as well call it modern slavery because of such backbreaking labor and they constantly have you on a schedule that if you don't pick at a certain rate then you're going to get in trouble every single time. I have talked to multiple people working at Amazon and they've gone to doctors multiple times because of their health issues that they never had and are developing now because they're not getting the adequate break or sufficiency that they need

I worked at Amazon for a 1.5 years. Quit cuz I had to go to grad school. Wasn’t that bad if you’re not overweight or don’t have any other injuries. But if you’re older and overweight, which is unfortunately a lot of people in lower income bracket, it’s going to be tough. So yeah Amazon needs to lower their standards. @multidinero
@multidinero 3 жыл бұрын
@@gvi341984 that’s how e-commerce works? I disagree. Let’s start with something simple that’s in close proximity. eBay . eBay sellers charge you a price and tell you that you’ll get free shipping. However, the shipping costs are baked into your price. Nothing ships for free! Amazon uses such tactics as well, but also plays the secondary role of pricing out the competition while making up any loses in volume of sales. For years Amazon lost money, Billions even, on free shipping. Now, they’ve bought their own shipping trucks, contracted out the work to randoms who drop your stuff at your front door in a blizzard and will take a picture and call it done. The business model for that is “hope you get it, because I did leave it.” Free shipping at your own risk is the norm now. But, that doesn’t justify underpaying your workers, miserable working conditions, or union busting.

I’ve worked in many warehouses and they were all union. Believe me, the union doesn’t necessarily get the workers what they want. As a Amazon customer I would happily pay a dollar more per item if it went directly to the workers.

As an Amazon worker in Michigan, I say this is not true for me. I work the night shift with 3 breaks, 2of them 30 min and 1 be 15 min. We have several chances to be promoted within 2-3 months of being hired and they encourage us to inform our management. My team leader got promoted after being there for only 4 months. They are not harsh on us making rate every second but encourage us to try to hit a good number that they think we can do. So if I do 112 for an hour, they say try to get a 120 for the next hour. Or if I do 178 for an hour, the next hour I might get 153. My manager doesn't get mad but accepts that as long as I am working, He's fine with any number we produce that night. And our bathroom situation is go whenever you need to. Takes 5 mins, that's ok. BTW I'm a packer.

You can write robot expenses off on your taxes, money you pay to your workers is just renting organic robots to them, but it doesn't reduce the tax liability.

They pay more than double the minimum wage, just coming in. And if there anything like other large employers, they most likely give someone regular pay increases and provide mobility to develop a career in the company.
