Patrick is (edit - was in 2015) the oldest known wombat and just (Aug2015) celebrated his 30TH BIRTHDAY! In the wild wombats typically only last 10-15yrs. You can meet him at Ballarat Wildlife Park (www.wildlifepar...), and he actually came 3rd in a US survey of the worlds best city animal mascots! His Facebook page is at / patrickthewombat and this sensitive new-age wombat even has his own Tinder account now.

RIP Patrick. What a Wombat of a guy! In Knotty Ash for 31 years, our Wombat song and allegiance to the loving, chilled out but cuddliest of all cuddles go to our Knotty Ash Wombat Society. Fatso was a stunt wombat so had an actors temperament. But he was so laid back about his fame over in Pommyland. Our song is Don't Tell Your Wombat, {cos you know he'll only get upset{. It is our anthem. After 31 years of allegiance to our song I will duly record it, on behalf of our Antipodean marsupial cousin. There are no words to describe the sorrow we feel, in Knotty Ash, for your loss. Let flights of winged wombat angels send thee to thy rest, and cake. He will be as sadly missed as our Kenny Dodd. I wonder if the wombat understands that people are excited by him and his being 30. I wonder what goes on in his head. He probably doesn't remember his childhood or even the last year's events.

Patrick won't know they're celebrating his _birthday_ due to no sense of years/dates/birthdays, but an interesting question is - do they know they're _celebrating him_? my guess is no - they dont actually know about 'celebration' afterall, but I have no doubt they absolutely would recognise "wow i'm getting some special treatment, lots of attention, and yummy new food today!" - but not knowing or being able to comprehend the reason. Just my guess!

imagine ure taken to an alien planet where nothing really makes sense and ur mind cannot comprehend the technology they have. so u just sort of ..... float around on their flying cars and stuff taking in the pink waterfalls and black rainbows.... while they mutter random stuff and gather around on odd days for reasons u dont understand thats wht i think it would be like. just acceptance of the reality but really not getting it.

for comparison, Guinness World Records recognises the oldest DOG in the world (named Pusuke, passed away in 2011) at 26 years and 9 months, and they recognise the oldest CAT (named Creme Puff, passed away in 2005) at 38 years 3 days. Patrick turns 31 in just two months.

I had a hamster once, which ran away. Last I saw it was 20 years ago running into a sewage drain. I dream my hamster had a great life and became this size. Can't believe this wombat is older than me.

all wombats look "fat", they're a chubby sort of animal lol, but no, most don't live til this late age of 31, so yes it's rare to find wombats as fat'n'healthy as Patrick

yes, sadly Patrick passed away this year aged 31, but that's the LONGEST ever known life of a wombat, PLUS he had possibly the best ever life any wombat has ever had and was much-loved by Julia and other carers (complete with custom-made wheelbarrows lol - the Wombat version of a Limousine), so we should CELEBRATE this amazing beautiful wombat and be lucky he had a FULL and HAPPY life, that only sloths can be jealous of :)
