Everyone laughts at flash assailant until some dude decides to meme and uses reverse trap for a 4k + level 4. But in the current times, yeah quite bad.

It’s weird but I actually like this era of Yugioh. They were still experimenting with effect monsters and it’s pretty fun to look over and discuss these quirky cards that would never see the light of day but are just a product of it’s time. Early effect monsters are all kinds of quirky.

4:03 The Unfriendly Amazon is at least an earth warrior so she’s highly supported. Plus, her cost is not mandatory and only happens during the standby phase so you can at least get one attack out of her before she self-destructs (assuming you didn’t use her as extra deck material prior)

Eh, to be fair, a lot of those earlier monsters had to have some sort of drawback to them to balance out their ATK, and these drawbacks could be circumvented with Skill Drain or The Familiar Knight.

The worst of these literally boil down to old lv.4 beat sticks that refused you the ability to normal summon them which made no sense back then and makes limited sense today when you consider synchros and xyz where lv play is in effect and restricting based on level can be the difference between balanced and broken

I think the idea of the first card is that you can still set the card and flip it. However, it has 500 Def, which is just....terrible. Like the situation would be like this you set this card on an empty field of your opponent or he has like one weak monster...you survive his turn of him just not destroying it by effect or attack...then you flip it....but if he has only one monster still, and you destroy it with the 2000 atk, it destroys itself anyway....yeah this is trash still.

Armor EXE should have a re-train, maybe a Cyberse monster due to being called EXE. It's art looks too cool to be useless

cave dragon is an interesting framework if they remove the normal summon resriction. it has a managable weakness of relying on anouther monster with out said weakness completely cripling it, worst case its still a 2000 atk postion wall that needs dealing with.

I wanted to use Boar Soldier, Nuvia the Wicked, the Unfriendly Amazo in my Meklord Emperor deck... as you can imagine, it did not work as I hoped... and now it is even outclassed in that role. Apparently people used Flash Assailant competitively. I can't imagine people would use this. I think some worst cards are monsters that only have a summoning condition but no effect. Main offenders, some which are now usable thanks to legacy support, are: - Gate Guardian - Larvea Moth (I going minus 2 in 2 turns to summon a 700 atk monster with no effect) - Great Moth - Ultimate Great Moth - Wall Shadow - Metalzoa - Red-Eyes Black Metal Dragon Also there are some really weird cards that just do nothing. Most are equips like: - Magical Labirynth - Trial of the Princesses

Well, some of these cards are useful for skill drain decks, nullyfying their negative affects along with enemy monster effects.

The sound here is really, really bad? Hella muffled, grating music, semi binaural but in like a...really bad way?

A dude at my Locals used 2 Flash Assailants in his Infernity Deck. So, I guess there's that... 🤷

Shadow knight is better than all the others because he is a Archfiend and Falling Down can be used to steal the opponents monster. As well as having a built in protection effect. Tho that effect is up to chance. He can also be searched, and is the strongest normal summon Archfiend, so he has a chance to survive a turn so that you can summon Terrorking Archfiend the next turn. Terrorking is worser cause it can't be Normal Summoned unless you have another Archfiend Monster, and is lv4 2000 atk

Flash assailant,Nuvia and Boar soldier can be candidates for "Reverse trap" normal trap card. Nerfs becomes buff.

I'm a fan of flash assailant with Skill Drain beatdown, or just in the early days where discard costs was so common, then again Blade Knight ends up being a power crept flash assailant, sadly Flash Assailant wasn't a warrior for ROTA or other cards, but it was a dark for chaos decks which was a decent plus to the card

Rare metal dragon can be brought out by assault wyvern tho or any special summon from the grave spells or traps.

They need to make a Common Metal Dragon with an effect to Special Summon Rare Metal Dragon from hand, deck, GY or Banishment

So This list kind of doesn't acknowledge how power creep in the game has worked over the last 25 years or how experimental the game USED to be, where 2K beatsticks would always either be level 5 and up or have some form of stat or effect disadvantage as a matter of balance (you know, that thing they don't do at all anymore that has made people leave the game?). that stat line started out at 1500--1700, then slowly creeped up with Gemini Elf and Luster Dragon for years after (Even into the GX and 5D's era) being the best you could get for reliable unhindered level 4 beatsticks. And it also ignored how many of these cards were used to great effect with their intended support or other popular cards of the era to interact and turn their disadvantages into gameplay assets. As consequence it doesn't list actual terrible or unplayable cards, but ones that fit a niche that the power creep eventually destroyed or saw less use just due to how people would gravitate to less finnicky cards even if they didn't have the same stat lines. Boar soldier was intended to be used in Combination with Cyber jar and Morphing jar, as the early days of the game the most powerful of the jar monsters were legal; and Cyber mass summoned level 4 monsters. the jar monsters in general played havok with game strategies back in the original days. Thus if you won the summon lottery over your opponent, Boar soldier made it so you could steamroll over your opponent's gacha'd cards. Flash assailant ended up being useful more often than not, as in the early days of the game Draw power cards and searchers did NOT exist in plentiful or ubiquitous numbers; you had four guaranteed cards for that and that was it, so if you overextended and played everything only to run into raigeki or mirror force, you'd not be able to recover. Flash Assailant was then that recovery stall card that could help one hold out for a potential reinforcement or support card, or that one last push over the top for game. Especially helped by Dark and Fiend monsters being some of the earliest to see regular card support or focus around buffable cards (Yeah, saying that fiends saw no support was flat-out WRONG), so it's slow loss of stats was mitigatable. Nuvia the wicked is another Cyber jar target meant as a blitzkrieg attacker. Unfriendly amazon from its inception was meant to take advantage of the amazoness support cards, like Amazoness archer. it's an opening play card, you set it up to run over whatever monster your opponent first played or to be high enough in attack to take advantage of the Trap amazoness Archers. The main thing that ruined it is due to how its name was written at release it wasn't originally counted in the TCG AS an Amazoness card as it had been designed to be, and that's the game's importers botching that. Susa Soldier...again, Support cards addressed the disadvantages from the start. This list ignores how these cards would be used in the decks they were meant to play in. Cave Dragon was a first turn play card; you get it out as a first turn attack mode monster to discourage your opponent doing something on THEIR first turn, then you summon something else on your second turn to beat the life out of their stuff. That strategy doesn't work anymore in the modern game where 'you must do everything on your first turn or lose', as you couldn't realistically OTK/FTK back then, but back then it was more than viable. Also, Cave Dragon was fusion material for Fiend skull dragon; an early game monster that (while being lower in attack than it should have been) negated flip effects and targeted trap cards; back when both flip cards and traps ran around rampantly in the game; and released in a set that gave a LOT of support to both dragon and Fiend players. Consequentially, this card is the one that of them all least deserves to be here. Armor Exe: Tell me you never used spell counters as a mechanic without telling me you never used spell counters as a mechanic. If you were playing spell counters correctly, this was not a hindrance. Like Cave Dragon it was a first-turn-of-play-card, and you immediately got around its effect with "pitch-black power stone". Hell, this card got better once "Magical citadel of Endymion" got released to generate a massive stockpile of Spell counters...though I will agree that once that happened there were some better cards to play. But not long after this card released the set "Dark Crisis" followed and it then became the heyday of the "butterfly dagger elma-gearfried the iron knight" combo that made it so you would have spell counters to spare to do ANYTHING; and would be used as the physical holdout until it could be tributed for magical marionette. It being a rock type monster instead of a spellcaster? yeah, this was before type/attribute tribalism was a thing; people rarely played decks of just one type; but focused around a strategy that could involve monsters of any origin. Hell, in-game storytelling-wise it makes sense, as spell counters are power stones, and what else would each such power stones than a rock monster? Shadowkngiht archfiend: Again, ignoring the support cards the monster was meant to be paired with which were based around avoiding the lifepoint expenses and dice manipulation. the entire gimmick of the Archfiend archetype originally was manipulating fate and exploiting disadvantages and long odds (which admittedly DID NOT work, but thematic consistency was still being experimented on there); to say nothing about the last effect being a result of lore-wise Shadowknight being a corrupted susa solider. Because that was part of the chess Archfiend gimmick; a corruption of other cards in service to the Archfiend king. Rare Metal dragon: OH LOOK! Another Cyber jar target (It hadn't been banned yet), originally made useful by (and intended directly to work WITH) the card "familiar Knight" it released in the same set as. and released not that long before "KING DRAGUN" was added to play in the OCG to become a common fixture in dragon decks so it not being able to be normal summoned was not an issue. hell, I used this card in my "The Creator" Deck, and it saw exploitation in "hopeless Dragon" Decks far later. Also: EVERY Card that is complained about for losing attack? Yeah, they are forgetting about something. The earliest days of the yugioh game had a heavy focus on boosting attack via equip spell cards; axe of despair, malevolent nuzzler, black pendant, United we stand, Mage power, field spells that increased stats to either a type or attribute. And consequentially, one of the MOST used trap cards in that Era was known as "Reverse Trap". For those who don't know, reverse trap turned stat gains into losses and stat losses into gains. so Say boar soldier was summoned and lost attack from being outnumbered? reverse trap turned it into a 3K beatstick for a come-from-behind sneak attack you would BAIT your opponent into attacking themselves. Like, seriously; reverse Trap was in the first starter decks of the game; did NO-ONE remember to exploit that with how much attack manipulation was used back then? Hell, they're even more game-functional now because of 1: skill Drain. and 2: Axe of fools. And thus, due to how they would interplay with other cards of their release Era, they might not have been first choice's, but they weren't as terrible as this list makes them out as. C'mon, list some actual useless/terrible cards: ones that never actually worked, had no valid reason to be the way it was, are under their stat lines for their level/cost to summon, or the game has never fixed.

I'd say something about Bistro Butcher, but oddly enough, it actually has genuine niches. Back then it could be used in deck out strategies, and theoretically even has a role in Trickstar/burn decks.

Flash assilant + Reverse trap is THE combo xD

2:03 you made me realize that Flash Assailant and Trap Master probably got their types switched with each other. But there is spell equip card that can negate Flash Assailant's effect. You could also combine it with Gravity Axe Grarl to get 500 more points and the other card I mentioned I believe also gives this monster and extra 500 points too so you can potentially have a 3000 point fiend monster for a while.

honestly goat... for worst monsters would be dark sage, spirit of the pharaoh, larava moth, magicians bond and unity, flash assailant, and so forth now I guess u can use flash assailant in a skill drain deck but at that point u might as well use like chainsaw insect or goblin attack force lol. anyways worst card would have to be the spell card jar greed the one can negate pot of greed.

You should include the card "Maryokutai" an aqua monster kills itself so your opponent doesn't activate a spell card. I couldn't sell the card on its own so I had to combine with a Legends of the Deep pack. Although I did use the funds to buy cards like Amazoness Princess.

Wasnt flash assailant meta in the really early days of duel links? Having a 4 card starting hand probably helped.

Cave Dragon doesn't have Summoning Sickness though? SS is when you can't attack with a monster the turn it's summoned, Cave Dragon technically CAN so long you circumvent its restriction with something like Monster Reborn. If anything Toons are the ones with Summoning Sickness.

Boar Soldier is so bad that not only is the better version of it (Nuvia the Wicked) still awful, but even the better version of THAT (Rare Metal Dragon) is awful!

Shadowknight Archfiend to me doesn’t seem nearly as bad as most of the other cards on this list. A normal summon 2k, you just gotta pay 900 each of your turns and the damage it inflicts is halved.

Have you seen sari of the silverwing ax or master craftsman Gamil? Both are terrible handtraps that give a miniscule attack boost. Gamil gives 300 attack until end of turn and Sari equips to a monster giving it a massive 100 extra attack points

my favorite of these kinds of cards is Bistro Butcher. 1800 attack beater that pot of greeds your opponent any time you deal battle damage. Absolutely worthless unless you're trying to go for a mill gameplan, but even then I doubt it.

I remember trying to make a Skill Drain Deck with these cards and it still sucked. It's funny how the first 2 big beatstick with bad effect monsters were better than all the ones that came later (aside from Goblin Attack Force).

Rare Metal Dragon is so funny. A strong Level 4, but at the cost of _not being able to be Normal Summoned._ Okay, then I'll just run Summoned Skull? You've just negated the _only_ pro that comes from being Level 4. It doesn't even have something cool, like an additional effect or a reverse Blue-Eyes stat line. It's just bad.

You put a lot of emphasis on the type of monsters like "why do I care about this rock monster?" Or "it's a fiend which is really bad and has no support" we're in caveman yugioh days, there's not a whole lot of archetypes support yet, until RoTA anyway and that's just warriors. LOB has a bunch of really terrible equips for certain types of monsters, but nobody plays those equips anyway.
