What other mixing techniques do you apply to your guitar mixing?

I fell in love with Soothe recently. Takes that harshness away. I was using parametric EQ for this (and still love it), but Soothe does it in more pleasant way for me. And also I am using dynamic Mid-Side on the low palm muted frequencies. So guitar have body without unnecessary lows.

i like to use slightly saturation at different stations. I use Pro Tools Heat on my channnels, and the Blackbox HG2 on my guitar group. If you start with a great tone, mostly you dont need an EQ for the heavy lifting, so my mixbus Eq does most of the work.

I would’ve appreciated another 30 seconds of explanation on good vs bad attack/release settings when compressing heavy guitars, rather than only a plug for a product.

I agree, but we’ll never get that beside JST is a plugin business… so they will only plug their plugins.

be careful with compression on distorted guitars, because they are already compressd. the best way is to compress befor the amp, with a pedal, just like a clean boost, or use a overdrive as a dirty boostpedal, just like the good old tubescreamer. If you are struggeling with to much dynamic. consider automating, it sounds much better for guitars.

@@kristianmarschewski1590 I agree. I use a clean boost and basically never compress heavy guitars. Automation is better.

@@blastbeatdown i like the boss cs3, because it´s more like a transient shaper, and you can crank the attack to ceep the punch ;) so it´s more a tone shape thing, rather than controlling the dynamic. on cleaner guitar a compressor works fine, then it akts like a clean boost, without adding level and driving the amp harder

@@kristianmarschewski1590 very similar approach over here. I like a compressor in front on cleans. For boosts I really dig the Fortin stuff, or a good ol tube screamer. A friend of mine is modding my old TS9 for me

John from Sonic drive studios had a very good point on EQing the amp, that you shouldn't be afraid of extreme settings because some amps sound horrible at noon values. I was really afraid of really cranking treble or getting low really out. He didn't say though to crank everything, just to kinda make "closed eyes decisions".

So, i bought the disruptor when it dropped. Loved it. After the last update it can't be used for more than 30 seconds before it starts to create static to the point it is unuseable. I own multiple sims from literally every company but this one is the only one that does this..as it's my first plugin from jst it kind of put me off from the company a bit...

Hi! I have a little question. Do you add an amp sim plugin to every di track or do you let all the di tracks go through one amp sim? BTW great video

There is a compressor on the Loomis toneforge. Will I need to add another compressor on the bus later? Or will the one do fine?
@joeymusic
@joeymusic 10 ай бұрын
That’s all you’ll need for that instance but if you combine several guitars together into a bus, you might want a compressor like bus glue to further glue them down.
