Jigs Yes, but not in a vacuum like he said at the start. We're assuming a down air like Sonic's doesn't come with an extremely high up B. In addition, it is worse then everyone else's.

I remember reading a comment about Yoshi basically saying "It would be a direct buff to Yoshi if side-B did absolutely nothing" mostly because you'd have less risk of messing up egg throws with up-B.

I think that had this video come out after Byleth was released, his Amyr would be picked instead of Skewer. Amyr has a 62 frame startup and deals 30%. Just for reference, this is slower than a Volcano Kick (60 frame startup) and deals only slightly more damage than a Falcon Punch (28%). Skewer is one of the more applicable "Big Moves" in Ultimate due to its comparably low startup, poor (but not horrendous) safety on miss/shield, and insane damage despite it's lack of ability to kill, whereas Amyr is just another Warlock Punch with some extra aerial coverage and slightly additional utility if used on a platform. It clearly overthrows Skewer for the title.

TheTrueBrawler I’d agree, but I think the versatility of the full shield-break potential, and the ability to turn around and drop through platforms, makes it a bit of a coin toss. They’re both clearly risky moves, both have artificially less risk than other similar moves, both for different reasons. I still might pick Skewer for the spot, but they’re such drastically similar moves with drastically different applications, I don’t think either of them is a clear “worse” option.

@@theillusionist1494 Both have effectively equal reward for varying reasons, but with these moves and how useful they are in practice, speed is literally everything, and no that is not an exaggeration. The Big Moves video MockRock showed demonstrated how even a Falcon Punch struggled to connect even with a hard roll read. The timing is extremely specific as even a few frames late will allow opponents to act before the move connects and even a few frames early will make the move fail to connect at all. The lesser aspects of Ganon's Kit are much slower than the Falcon Punch, and even Volcano Kick (the faster of the two moves) only works on opponents if they're stunned in game, holding a broken controller, aren't paying attention to the game itself, have never seen the move before, or are mentally handicapped in a way that slows their reaction times to a crawl. Amyr is even slower than Volcano Kick. Anyone playing the game will be able to recognize that an Amyr will be thrown out over half a second before it actually is. Even if an opponent rolled in or entered your general vicinity via some sort of burst movement option and missed, they still have more than enough time to do a lot. Opponents can run away then run back to combo you by 40% to 50%, jump over you and charge a smash attack, grab and throw you to a bad position, use some sort of counter to block the hit, et cetera. Amyr's shield breaking potential covers only one option out of the dozens upon dozens which the opponent can commit to, and the whole "I should shield this, oh no..." won't work on decent opponents more than once, maybe twice, and the platform drop mix up is extremely situational. The flaw that makes Amyr almost completely useless in even mediocre level play, however, doesn't apply to Skewer. It comes out twice as fast, making it applicable for reads of all kinds, tech situations, and certain whiff punishes. The only real benefits Amyr has over Skewer is its aerial coverage and niche mix up capabilities. It's not good, but far better than Amyr could ever hope to be. If either this video or the Big Moves video were made after January 2020, Amyr would most likely be the pick for the worst.

@@TheTrueBrawler Playing devil's advocate, I'm going to make the claim that Amyr is still better. It is slower, but it has much larger coverage than Skewer, given the aerial hitboxes, which still do as much as the ground one, and the shockwaves the ground where it would otherwise miss, giving it that extra bit of utility. Skewer is faster, but its spacing for it to have maximum pay-off is so small and coupling that with the slow start-up means that I would argue that it's harder to land a meaningful hit with Skewer than Amyr, but I would understand if you're still smitten with the opposite. They're both bottom contenders for sure.

@@mettatonex7221 That was the conclusion I came to Amyr pros: Shatters shields, can hit above Byleth, can 2 frame, shockwave potentially covers a miss, no sour spot, can be turned around, can drop through platforms, has super armor during the swing if you're on the ground Amyr cons: slow as shit, vulnerable if missed, can be grabbed out of Skewer pros: Faster, deals massive damage, allows for a follow-up for kills, little vulnerability if missed Skewer cons: can't 2 frame, specific, tiny Sweet spot, does nothing to shields, can't be turned around (But B-reverse works), can't drop through platforms, short lasting active frames

@@CoinBox170 Well, regardless of stats, Melee Bowser is generally agreed to be the worst character in Melee, maybe even in any Smash game, since, like was described for the theoretical worst character here, his only usable tools do next to nothing, landing kill moves are practically impossible, and he's dead when he leaves the ground.

Even better: when the opponent is either asleep or skewered, you don't have to worry about the slow startup of Snake's F-smash anymore! (or you could just Warlock Punch/Volcano Kick.)

Honestly I just wish we had this monstrosity character so that we could witness people defending their viability in the meta. And it would create for an amazing feat when a top player manages to place well with them regardless of how bad they are. I know we have a thing for Esam opinions, but he did a more basic version of this video a while back, where he made the case that Falcon Punch is actually worse. Yes, Warlock Punch is slower, but they're both too slow to use in any area besides shield break punishing and extremely hard reads anyway, and at least there are few options to deal with Warlock Punch thanks to the super-armor it gets. Also, it is leagues better than Falcon Punch at Shield Break punishing because you would probably be surprised to learn that Falcon Punch is actually comparitively weak in this game; I think Falcon's Forward Smash is better at killing than it, so even if you do land it, you don't get much pay-off.

Nothing stings more as a yoshi main then accidentally egg rolling when trying to get back on stage. EDIT: I main Ridley now, but I pretty much never use skewer and you can’t really accidentally use it so egg rolling with Yoshi still stings more.

As a testiment to the accuracy of one of the moves here... I've been watching a LOT of videos from a KZfaqr named Little Z, who among other things, is a wario main. And despite watching Little Z play wario in over a dozen videos, and seeing some awesome setups with his down tilt, down air, and most notably down b, I had no idea what Wario's down smash looked like.

all the other killing Dairs had the CPU at a higher % on hit though, and were generally from the same spot, so that's like saying that no stop&fall has a respectable kill power, but the ones mentioned at least come close which is why they're not as bad as Sonic's.

@@olivinator As someone who plays Ridley and Sonic, Ridley's definitely feels a lot worse. Sonic's isn't as fast, but it also ends much sooner so it can be used as a meteor without killing yourself thanks to his big up-B and as a means of getting to the ground when high up because it's aerial endlag is actually surprisingly short. Ridley's on the other hand has to compete with his up-B, which spikes consistently throughout, has a generous landing hitbox, and lets him grab an edge rather than suiciding with it when attempting a spike. So yeah, Ridley's sucks because of his up-B, and Sonic's is good because of his up-B

I would’ve said for the worst dash attack, would have to be Mega Man’s top spin. Its not a combo starter, it doesn’t kill, it has horrible endlag, its not safe on shield, it only works when the opponent is on the ground and the chances of getting the full damage off of it is really slim. And the worst part is that Mega Mans whole kit relies in playing keep away. Dash attacking as Mega Man means you’re bringing yourself closer to the opponent rather than keeping them at bay

(I know this is probably a joke, but not everyone is going to realize that and I don’t want them to get a bad takeaway from this) True combo into a flashy, lethal move...in exchange for their recovery. Several characters have scarier, more reliable set-ups, but if their recovery is incredibly bad/exploitable-much less nonexistant-people _will_ give them shit for it. Sing might not even make up for all the advantages of a real recovery if our hypothetical character had a homerun bat by default.

i'd argue Pac-Man's uptilt is pure garbage, it has NO ground hitbox and can only hit when someone is directly above you, and in that instance its got a small range so you're probably better off using something else. But yeah, an opponent can be walking into pac-man and uptilt still wont connect.

It still works as part of a Pacman combo. I've seen Tea and Sinji get some use out of it, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a Ganondorf use uptilt in a competitive match except for disrespect. I'd give Pac-man runner up status, though.

Duck Hunts up tilt also only hits opponents above you with no ground hit box. However, it does have use setting up cans but nothing else really.

Little Mac, but with his recovery _literally_ going nowhere, and he's helpless on the ground as well. the only thing that could make it worse is if he had the build of either Bowser, King Dedede, or King K. Rool, the ground speed of Incineroar, the jump height of Jigglypuff (with only the standard allotment of a single midair jump), and the air speed of King Dedede (also with only one midair jump). I'm not completely sure which weight would make him the worst, but given the reputation of characters that fall on either extreme and comparing them to each other, I'd say the weight of Bowser, but an argument can be made for the weight of Pichu as well.

@@SaphStrumm Arguably he was. Bowser at least has some favourable matchups at lower tiers and HAS pulled upsets in tournaments. Pichu is fast and I have clowned on someone on my level with Pichu..When they were using Marth. I've never known Kirby to beat any high-to-top tiers at competitive level. He's just too slow and frail to keep up.

The problem is unless your up against someone who isn't mashing there controller, it's not going to work. I can see why people think sing plus skewer is equivalent to a Brawl infinite, but sing has alot of end lag, it takes about a second for someone to wake up, and (correct me if I'm wrong) Warlock Punch has a 72 frame wind up, attempting to do this would not work very well. And with skewer, let's just say you have to have percision on where you are.

CJ The Randomizer Ganon’s neutral b would be used in the same way he uses it, but a better follow up for rest could be snake’s f-smash, with less startup and still very high kill power. Assuming that this character has good jumps, which of course we are not, sing would actually work somewhat well with this moveset

The thing is Plant's DTilt sends the opponent upward so you can combo into aerials or at the very least, force your opponent out of position, Jigglypuff's sends at a weird angle, has virtually no reach, and is kinda slow and not even a kill move.

Yeah, unfortunately his aerials are very underwhelming in terms of power, speed, and hitbox (landing Uair is a nightmare to land, and strangely enough, it combos into almost all of his kit depending on what percent the opponent is in, lol!). I will say, un-ironically, that his Nair is his best aerial exclusively because it is his fastest aerial (It's also *the* fastest aerial in the game too at frame 2) and can interrupt attacks when you ledge jump > Nair at ledge. It's still a horrible aerial considering Yoshi's Nair with only an extra frame of start-up has better combo breaker potential, but I think Little Mac's Nair is perhaps the only "viable" aerial to use for his character. The rest of Little Mac's aerials do not really have any true or useful follow-ups when used first, or are the worse of follow-ups themselves compared to his other moves such as Up-b (better follow-up after Utilt juggles, but I guess more riskier if you whiff it). Other than that, the only potential aerial I'd think people would use besides his tilts is Fair for tech situations.

In the context of Snake's kit, most certainly. A good player can get a good amount of mileage out of it by setting it up with grenades, mortar, or missile. However, as Mock said, context does not apply here. Without a means of setup, landing Snake's f-air is very unreliable and you'd be better off with Mario's f-air in almost all scenarios because it's faster. To make matters worse, f-airs are staples in the movesets of many, many characters, and spikes are relatively niche compared to what most other f-airs offer in combo or spacing utility or general kill power. Again, Snake's f-air isn't worthless. It just requires setup, and you can't depend on having access to that when you're building a character using the methodology Mock used.

Also dair still has a good trajectory when hitting with the sour spot unlike other dairs (Pits comes to mind) They rock though, when you are able to land any of those.

Wario's down smash, as a Wario main, is one of the riskiest moves to throw out, almost ever. However, it has reasonable start-up and is capable of beating normal, jump, and roll get-ups depending on spacing and kills reasonably early with an actually fantastic angle. Jigglypuff's is worse, because this down smash accomplishes certain things that some characters might actually want

The fact that Snake and Olimar popped up on the list just goes to show how even really good characters can still have an awful move or two. Fighting games are weird. (Also, shout out to the Jul clip at 10:15!)

A lot of these only showed up because the character doesn't need that slot for its usual utility. Snake doesn't really need the usual forward air since his grenades already dominate his neutral and he can just use nikita for regular edgeguarding, so why not have a flashy spike forward air to hard punish people for avoiding nikita unsafely. Jigglypuff already has God tier recovery from jump, so why not have an up special that essentially sets up any missed-tech punish you desire instead of recovering. Dedede admittedly would probably want a fast dash attack since he's already slow, but at least he can take advantage of his current one for ledgetraps and edgeguards given the rest of his kit. And then there's Yoshi, who would rather have Banjo's side B when he has no feathers than his current one. What a terrible attack.

I'm not a pro player by any means, but aren't both of those moves good with their character's kits, at least? Snake's down-aiming forward smash for edgeguarding, or for a free hit after you grab and "put them to sleep? And it's one of Olimar's only moves when he doesn't have Pikmin, so it's decent for doing a little damage so you can land and pluck more?

@@raisinsryum He literally showed why Snake's fsmash is good for his design, I called what he was going to say before he showed it because its the only reason to use his fsmash. Ledge traps with your grenades. Drop a grenade right at the ledge, then fsmash hold to counter the dodge. If they ledge get up, they get hit by grenade, if they roll, fsmash, if they jump, let fsmash go and shield. It's not used like other fsmashes

king k up air can also be used as a third jump close to edge but his recovery is a much safer option, but it is good to hit people if they try to edge guard you

the only thing is little mac air his other moves are honestly pretty good especially his smash attacks and if im being honest little mac up-air isn't to bad it can work out of shield and has just enough range that only sword and projectile down airs can stop it so it's good for juggling on the ground and it's not like it's slow either it hits pretty quick also they only need to make it so he can up-B into side-B then he could recover and be out of bottom tier

Yes , even ko punch There are set ups Down tilt Nair fast fall up air Ko punch And it's im not wrong a microscopical window of error It eats jumps and dodges Frame one moves like snake granades or Marth up b can break it But who would expect it anyways?

I commented this as well. Though at the beginning he said that moves that "use a partner" (or whatever) are excluded; so I'm not sure if that's just a hard ban on all ICs moves.

I know its a joke, but Mac doesn't even have many bad moves. His tilts are honestly all great and his specials aren't really "bad" much less the worse either. What makes him bad is his recovery and his unbalanced matchups because of his gimmick. He basically only sucks because he doesn't blend well with the dynamic of smash.

kirbys down b seems like one of his best moves when you use him for the first time it’s just a fun move to use sure it’s easily dodge able but when you do hit it packs quite a large punch

As a Dedede main, his Dash Attack probably is the worst on the principal that it's very predictable if you just throw it out, but like you said, Dedede specializes in trapping his opponents. In the right situation based on his kit, Dash Attack can do wonders for him, especially in a ledge trapping scenario paired with Gordo. It also kills reasonably early compared to many Dash Attacks and has a pretty huge hitbox all around to the point that it could even launch opponents behind Dedede.

I like watching your videos man. A couple things I have to say though: Samus doesn't work conventionally, but jab 1 comes out at frame 3, which makes it a really good poking tool. On top of that, crouch cancelled jab 1 is a thing, which means Samus has jab mixups galore, whether the opponent shields or not. If anything I would say Wario has the worst jab. Not that much power and an ungodly amount of endlag. King K. Rool's up air, since it bounces you in the air, makes a decent stalling tool offstage, allowing someone to recover a little bit easier even if their up b doesn't do that. I can see where whiffing it would screw you over, but that's just something I wanted to say. Ganondorf does suck at up tilt, but I think neutral b should go to Captain Falcon. Falcon's comes out faster, but doesn't have as much power as Ganon. When your special takes over half a second to windup and has poor range, it makes little difference whether the windup is 50 frames or 60 frames - they're going to punish you for it. At least Ganondorf's is a little safer, with the super armor enabling you to whiff punish. Other than that, I totally agree with this video. Can't wait to see your next one!

As a shulk main I think shulk's jab is way worse than Samus Samus's jab could possibly find niche uses in a random moveset But shulk's jab just can't do anything at all, not even in shulk's own kit, since it lacks range, does barely any damage, has too much endlag and knockback to follow up, even in buster or shield, but also has too little knockback to kill or set up for edgeguarding, even in smash art

Elijah Williams I recommend watching that video he suggested. Falcon Punch at least has a few applications in a hypothetical setting, but Warlock Punch is slower and less usable against anything but an opponent who can’t move.

I find it difficult to judge dash attacks since they inherently tie in with the characters ground speed. I'd say robin's is pretty bad too. But that might just be because of her slow movement speed. Although the attack also has no range and no combo/kill potential.

As a k. Rool main, the up air has an additional role. That’s to the additional small jump it does, it helps stall his recovery so people can’t just go offstage and kedge guard him.
