When my mother died of a terminal illness after suffering for a long time, an interesting difference in my mindset is that my fear of getting killed while riding basically disappeared. Not coming home from a ride is preferred to what that poor woman went through (and what awaits most of us if we live long enough!).

I’m 69 years old and I have had motorcycles since I was a teenager. I raced dirt bikes, I’ve had many rice rockets and now I have a Harley. It was safer years ago,now people are not paying attention and not looking for motorcycles. I use to have fun riding my bikes now I ride defensively not because I want to but because if I don’t it would end badly.

D, ride in their honor dude. Keep educating the people using your socials and spread the message and love man. Don't quit! My Dad and his Brother were motorcycle riders, yet my Dad died 2 months after turning 60, his brother sadly died young due to a bicycle accident (a minibis taxi took him out on the side of a highway whilst cycling with other people). I have only just taken up lessons a month ago, but I won't let my age nor anything else like the fear of the accidents stop me.

It's been a handful of years since but I've thought about/wanted to ride again but there's SO MANY MORE distractions nowadays, everyone is on their phone then mix it with way more ppl on the road to begin with, more and more young drivers. There's just a lot more dangers on the road than used to be

Went off a 80 ft cliff on my mtb and broke my back, pelvis, collapsed my left lung and was so grateful for riding with buddies and wore all my gear, definitely saved my life. One of the main problems over there in the US letting fearless kids on high powered machines that need respecting even from a very experienced rider, and these youngsters usually have had very little if any training. You watch a rideout on KZfaq from the US, expect to see at least one crash, it just rarely happens over here.

very apt vlog man. Reached out to an old mate yesterday only to realize that he had passed away after a MC accident. I always ride "with my head on a swivel" and fingers on the front brake - they never leave, EVER, no matter what. It's just a routine and hopefully it makes that split second difference when it matters. Every car/vehicle/animal in sight/vicinity is an active threat to be addressed - constantly. Riding is mentally draining and stimulating at the same time. I love it and will keep riding for as long as possible.

I stick to sport tourers for this exact reason. Ergos are good, edgy enough to be pissed off in slow traffic, but to cruise on the interstate. VFR 1200 is my baby. Had a friend pass away in Indy this last weekend, sad but he would be mad at us if we didn't celebrate with a burnout.

I'm guessing you wanted a Harley Bagger, which is something more comfortable or a different look. You can always cruise on a sportbike if you can handle the ergonomics. Sometimes I take mine out for an easy cruise through the backroads and sometimes I ride as hard as my skill level allows. If I had a big touring bike I might be MORE likely to crash it as wrangling that big bus around corners would be a different experience for sure.

I don't care how hot it is, I'm always wearing my black riding jacket, helmet, gloves, boots, and pants. The biking community and especially the sport bike community needs to hear this I believe right now. All the tiktoks and Instagram reels I see of riders pinning the throttle going as fast as they can on open roads is ridiculous. I get the fact that life is hard but doing that on an open public road is incredibly stupid. Keep up the good work and ride safe O7!

I always cover my brakes and clutch when inside a town or city. So many drivers have no observational skills or situational awareness. Ride safe, guys 💪

It’s everywhere dude. I’m in Texas and I at least see 2 people died everyday…. Every single day. It’s actually sad but since I seen it so much for so long it’s become part of the bike life and feels like a normal thing now which is crazy. The only thing I can say is ride safe and stay within your limits don’t let peer pressure get the best of you or anyone else. 🤘

I hear what you saying I’ve lost a few friends on bikes one with his fiancé because of a bad rider behind him numbed his rear tire. Rain sounds so good again my dream bike and I absolutely have to get one by November that was the plan but then now ex that I helped and put my wants and needs aside for her to get through cancer well she got through it and started be a not the same woman I’ve known for the last 25 years together but hey I’ll figure it out and hopefully get one it’s a need now. Love the content all of it stay safe bro keep up the good work👊🏼🤙🏼

Hey Fast Lane D I wanted to asked you for some advice if you have a min. I'm a new rider getting g ready to start studying for my motorcycle lience this year and I've been looking at some bikes and I actually sat on a Kawasaki ninja 650 and a honda cbr500r haven sat on a Kawasaki ninja r7 yet but I kinda like the 650 but I'll was balancing the bike on my toes and asked the salesman if it could be lowered. He said yeh but thats how I'm suppose to be standing and if I lower the bike it will change the ride. Wanna know your opinion on which would be the best beginner bike for someone aroused 5 ft 4 inch. Thank you and stay save out there

I have over 200 miles of mountain roads to ride where I live. No traffic, nice weather all year. Complete freedom for a superbike. All you have is a straight interstate. Sad. You missing out.

I'm with you D. Riding makes me happy that's why I still do it. When it comes to wild riders there's one particular one youtuber I think of, he's out of Texas, dude goes mad crazy. I'll say this, he isn't on one of the big 4 brands.

Sorry to hear about the loss of a fellow rider. To everyone who knew him, my condolences. It's true it happens everywhere and can happen any time. Content creators can't say & stretch it enough, you are more fragile on a motorcycle and riding bikes is no child's play folks. Respect the machine and the roads. Traffic too, but people in traffic need to respect other road users too. And not have a judgement when seeing a motorcycle or car speed by. Or See a lane split or filter from a bike. Legal or not, tone down. Let them continue on their merry way and do so yourself too. No one owns the road it's for every vehicle and civilian to use on the proper appointed spots. I can never say it to much: stay and be safe as well as vigilant. Ride safe but have fun. Remind yourselves of your loved ones wanting to see you get back.

Here in metro Detroit (massive scene, motor city) I feel like its everyday twice a day. I agree, its almost like you don't want to pull up the Facebook groups because you know you'll see a crash or death. I guess it keeps you in an aware mindset each time you go out... idk man.. but it is sad to see. Stay safe out there!

I just started riding and seeing and reading about deaths all the time is part of why I will not ride without gear. I know it won't save me in all situations but like it's not worth going without. Even family was like it's 90 outside why are you wearing your coat, and I'm like because I value my life and skin enough. I've lost 2 uncles in motorcycle wrecks, I don't wanna join them

I’ve been riding for only 3 years and I noticed this year I’ve slowed down a lot. I ride a 600 and I don’t need to upgrade. I’m just starting to understand the potential of my bike and I’ve gotten good at understanding my brakes (their capabilities/limitations) I stay with one finger on the brake so that I’m always ready and I’ve learned that the pressure I can apply with one finger is perfect for emergency braking situations. Sadly, I’ve had quite a few scares with cars that aren’t paying attention and I’ve had to dodge them. Love sport bikes love my 600 but I have no need to upgrade to a liter bike for my riding. Maybe if I build a drag bike I’ll get a liter bike but otherwise I’m good where I’m at.
