I surely don't want anyone to succeed at ruining the wrestling business. Aew has become a WWE dumping ground and any stars will be poached by WWE. If you think wrestling is about flips and not stories. You can go right on ahead and fail. If you think you should use real glass. Have fun with that. I don't need you to succeed. We just need you to go away. Thankfully, Punk, Cody, Jade, and MJF understand the business and will save it from all you unbathed virginal types. Ha.

I just hope the haters realize if AEW tanks, and WWE is the only televised game in town, wrestling in itself will suffer, AEW fans that came back to wrestling because of AEW wont go over to WWE but will just find something new and go back to going out to indy events. WWE fans need to realize that there are wrestling fans that like the in ring action more than soap opera drama and promos, and WWE really doesnt bring it when it comes down to in ring action, the style is slow and safe. Plus with no competition WWE will get stale, we have seen it before, itll happen again.

AEW has been a blessing in pushing WWE, absolutely. AEW's greatest contribution is the chilling of the smart marks online. This is wrestling, we are all wrestling fans in a era of social media. This should be the most fun and interactive time to be a fan ever. It hasnt been over the last 10 or 15 years. The online has been endless moaning, complaining, looking for a the negative. A entire generation of fans grew up watching endless YT channels whos entire gimmick was, "reported by Dave Meltzer". This generation was programmed to find something to complain about. Then they got their utopia and purely gates in AEW. ALL the online favorite workers, a billionaire owner that was one of them and a TV deal. AEW was the pot of gold at the end of Vince's evil WWE rainbow. Well AEW has had their problems and it hasnt been that dream promotion of endless 30 minute 5 star matches where everyone gets pushed. I believe this has humbled some of the online haters and that has been a blessing. This is fun again.
@robmartin5448
@robmartin5448 7 ай бұрын
It's not Meltzers fault tho. This toxic fanbase goes back to the Cornette Cult , back in the 90s they were running wild on the forums shiiting all over the Rock , Eddie Gurrero, Foley. Then Cornette miserabally failed at ROH as booker in 2011 and his cult all of a sudden vanished in emberassment, there was peace at last in those days. But add a new young generation that didn't grow up on the forums , and the Pandemic and we're back in the WCW vs WWF toxic tribalisms. So no, don't blame this on Meltzer bc Meltzer is a partial reason why AEW exists, he bet Cody that the Bucks & Cody wouldn't be abel to sell out Chicago Arena in 2018 , which went on to become ALL OUT and would birth AEW. Blame Tony Khan & Cornette for this toxic enviornment we have today.

@5IvanDrago5
@5IvanDrago5 7 ай бұрын
@@robmartin5448 Hmmm That is a interesting theory on the origins of the toxicity and you make a sound case going back to Cornette and The Monday Night Wars, As you age in life the actual number sometimes gets lost in it all. Im 46 and to me people whom are 35 are kids. So back to the future this shit and when I first noticed the toxicity being bad was my early 30's. So those people would have been teens and THE era of fans you mentioned. As I aged to 40 the online haters where mid 20's and early 30's, but in my eyes still kids. So, yeah, you may have some substance to your theory. As far as Dave, two points one bashing and one defending. First you are correct Meltzer does not bear all the blame for this, but the hoards of KZfaq channels whose entire existence is, "reported by Dave Meltzer". have been breeding grounds for bad vibes and stupidity. Example, about 6 years ago Asuka hadnt been on TV in a while. A "Nonconfirmed anonymous report" stated she was unhappy and going back to Japan. Man, the comment section was calling Vince racist, blasting WWE for bigotry, people vowing to unsubscribe for the Network ect ect ect. It was all BS, NONE of it was true so all those hate filled theories that got posted and entertained where BS. Point against Dave, after his failed Mauro Ranallo, Vince, and JBL bullying without story fizzled. Dave got really bitter at WWE after that.

7:04 - 8:33 This Summarizes perfectly how I feel about this Tribalism stuff. Even if you Hate the WWE or Vice Versa AEW. Let them enjoy it without making fun of the other show CONSTANTLY. Whether its the unnecessary CM Punk hating since he came back, the wrestling sucks, Its too sports Entertainment or this show didn't draw as much as this AEW show or In the case of WWE fans shit talking AEW It's just spot fest wrestling, this wrestler wrestles like shit, This person has no personality, There's no good storylines, Half there arena's empty. Just Shuuut uuuup. It doesn't matter. Its wrestling. If you hate WWE tune or block the entire shows or post about it out. Again Vice Versa If you really Hate AEW. Focus on what you Love. Don't shit talk a product you don't watch nor care about for NO REASON. Its childish and stupid. Let the people who watch those products critique them. And if you watch both critique both, But there's a difference between critiquing a product and saying how you think they can improve versus troll comments that just shit on the company or people who don't like it shit talking matches and promo's that they probably didn't even watch to begin with. If you have nothing good to say about the product say nothing at all and watch the product you love. Let the other people watch and talk about their preferred product in peace. And If you like and WATCH and want to critique all of them TNA, ROH, AEW, WWE, NJPW, MLW, Etc. Then good for you critique them to your desire, but if you don't then don't speak on stuff you only see small clips of and don't truly watch. Sheesh people.

Simon thank you so much for making this. We really need to have more content creators talking about this issue because the IWC has gotten so out of hand. I got back into wrestling as a dejected fan because of AEW, doesn't mean I hate WWE. I actually think WWE has a great product right now and probably would never have stopped watching years ago if it was of the current quality. That being said, I feel like since all the CM Punk stuff has gone down the IWC has gone even more mad than usual and most of the discourse is around ratings, ticket sales, production issues, etc vs. what is actually happening on our screen. Any twitter/tiktok/social media comment thread under AEW or TNA is filled to the brim with people trashing the product to the point where you can't have any dialogue at all. It's just sad to see people cheering on the failure of a company and loss of jobs. AEW/TNA/NJPW/ROH are certainly not for everybody but a majority of WWE's star wrestlers built their names in other companies (or reinvented themselves there). I just hope we can appreciate the fact that there are multiple wrestling promotions operating on a major scale. I certainly don't want things to go back to the way they were because it makes things so much less interesting

Simon, it's never gonna stop, not while they're somewhat comparative in things like tv deal or production level. Some people just live to pit two things against each other. We can have a big fight over whether Mars Bars or Twirls are better right now and whoever "wins" out argument, we're not gonna make a difference, the argument is gonna rage on. The only positive thing that could really come out of it is for the loser to not think it was worth it to actually fight over it and the winner also to think the same, though it's harder for the winner, being championed is harder to step down from than losing. The "winner" will have to sort themselves out and understand that "their victory" wasn't of any significance and is holding them back. That's the only way this stuff ever improves, baby steps.

I want promotions that work to help their workers enjoy their old age, not ones like GCW and AEW which happily let people burn up their health to make money knowing there'll be some more willing victims they can exploit to come along

I know AEW fans are almost entirely devoid of intelligence or understandings of nuance, but there is a difference between stuff happening in pro wrestling (so comparing MJFs and Charlotte's recent injuries) on somewhat risky spots and the inept stupidity of giving a concussed person TWO pile drivers, of trying to work with real glass, of trying to do a Canadian destroyer on to tables, of drinking blood... When you watch OVW you have to keep in mind that your watching a training school. Those wrestlers are taking the first steps in following their dreams. It's not polished and there are technical difficulties but overall it's very entertaining. In the long run I hope that the people that I'm watching on OVW make to the WWE and AEW.

Many of these agreesive fans use that football hooligan mentality from both companies. They lash out as if there's nothing more important in their lives but to humiliate other fans just because you like a wrestler that they don't. There's a reason these "fans" don't want that Simon Miller positive energy. A recent example is CM Punk returning to WWE. The hate from these loyal fans to vilify Punk and devalue the opinion of Punk's fans has become very intense and from both companies. They don't want another company as an alternative and they force their offensive rhetoric in the most fascist way possible.

I honestly don't think UK fans are adding fuel , because this toxicty goes back to the forum days & guess who was running wild back then, the Cornette Cult & his midsouth bible belt freaks as well as the Northeast IWC fans. When Cornette finally drowned in misery in his failure at ROH in 2011, he lost all validation in the forums and there was peace. But now add Twitter , pandemic and a new generation that didn't grow up to see Corny fail in ROH, and its toxic forum days. Tribalistic fandom is ridiculous in any entertainment field, not just wrestling. Other people liking different things to you is not an attack on your personal identity or the things you enjoy. I'll be honest, I find WWE utterly unbearable, but I have this incredible solution called "not watching it". I don't care whether other people watch it and I don't feel the need to go around telling people off on social media for enjoying a different thing to me. The other really frustrating thing about the 'WWE vs AEW' narrative is that it short changes all of the other wrestling that's out there. There are so many great companies and so many great wrestlers across the world, and there's absolutely no need to pretend that only two of those companies matter.

The way some fans talk about wrestling I question if they really even are fans. Their focus isn't talking about wrestlers, matches, or promos they like they just endless talk business like they're an executive. I've even had so called "fans" mock me for referring to wrestling as an artform. At this point I couldn't care less that AEW doesn't have the same ratings as WWE. Is Pepsi an invalid drink because it will never sell like Coke? The tribalism surrounding wrestling just feels so toxic. You can't speak positively about something without inviting people to be mad at you for enjoying something. I mainly watch AEW, but I don't waste my time endlessly shitting on everything WWE does and put down the good talent they have over there. There is this certain type of WWE fan that can't just accept that AEW exists and has fans. They need to root for its failure and endlessly criticize it in bad faith. If they took that energy and focused it on actually enjoying wrestling they'd be much happier people.

I really wish ROH had succeeded during the pandemic as it pushed the 'Pure Tournament' which would hopefully have moved wrestling away from sports entertainment - not that you never should have gimmicks, high spots etc, just that it would mean more if they were the exception rather than something seen every single week. This is why I don't find AEW a positive, they are just an empty retread of ECW/Attitude Era/FMW in an era when we know the damage that style of sports entertainment does to the workers.

As a strong believer in workers rights, I think options for every industry is a good thing. People should have options to negotiate their pay. But live attendances and lower ratings are signs of mistakes. AEW in the last year or so have driven off fans for whatever reason. This is true of any company. I want AEW to succeed. But they seem to have lost momentum and I’d argue their choices are not leading to growth, in the same way that post WCW, WWE’s choices didn’t lead to growth. I want to see AEW turn it around for the benefit of everyone.
