Problam with Puerto Rico is that she isnt that gorgeous. BUT SINCE non of the three were as gorgeous as the other girls, we base it on 2 things, the PERSONALITY and the Final Answers... Puerto Rico is your All American Pageant Girl, except that she sounded INTELLIGENT and she was less perky than the reigning Mss Universe then. Mexico as gorgeous as last year's Miss Mexico, but her walk and her talk was perfection. Plus her dress was perfect. SHE WAS PERFECT, but she exudes a very SALMA HAYEK vibe. S. Africa is just banking on the RACE CARD! S. Africa knew that her look neither does her walk will matter to an all GIRL panel, who wants to crown a BLACK GIRL, because it will make them look progressive and non racist. the judges want subscribers and followers, so they will not vote against the black girl who claims to represent the average of the species. While I cheered for S. Africa till she was in the TOP 3. Her final speech was just devoid of any CLASS, POISE, BEAUTY, and FEMININE GRACE. while Mexico and Puerto act like queens till the last second of the show.

In a leaked scoresheet (which I normally would be dubious about, but Madison posted it herself on her IG stories a few days after the pageant), PR was on track to win - she dominated the beauty aspect of the entire thing (including the prelims). But when they opened their mouths, SA was always ahead of her. Mexico, who came across as the most sincere of the 3, was the most obviously nervous. But regardless of any perceived bias, what Zozi has over Madison is that she knew exactly what to say and how to say it for maximum impact. Her phrasing and word choices were superior, the words flowed out of her naturally, whereas Madison just waded in vague generalities while you could see the gears turning in her head. Sofia and Madison gave the standard "be yourself" buck-up speech (which, quite frankly, *yawn*), while Zozi pulled out from actual experience and wanted girls to be leaders. The stronger message won the day. This year's edition was an oratorical contest, and they chose the most candid, realistic speaker, who was not necessarily the most refined. There's something refreshing about going for the less poised, more spontaneous woman who isn't scared to be perceived as unglamorous rather than the robotic standard of perfection. With that being said, all 3 were deserving. Unlike last year where the winner was head and shoulders above the competition, all 3 girls this time were pretty much of equal footing. Whoever would have taken it among them, it would not have been such an upset.

None of the girls were ROBOTIC and Puerto Rico, who was a bit too much of a Barbie Doll was actually very good with how she phrased her answers. If I am going to be very objected, she really nailed it. But I wanted Mexico... because I love the dress and the accent. South Africa was reciting FEMINIST PROPAGANDA as she was in a #METOO gathering. She had a strategy when she came to this pageant. We should not reward women who came to the pageant and just bank on a strategy. Perhaps she is a real Feminist. But Mexico and PR are feminist in some other ways too, the are the PRETTY FEMINIST. @Marcelo Vanessa Williams was the 1st Black winner of Miss America in 1983. The contest started in 1921. Miss Universe & Miss USA started in 1952. The 1st Black winner of Miss Universe was in 1977. The first Black Miss USA won in 1990. Miss Teen USA was started in 83 & the 1st Black winner won in 91. And, to answer your question the current winner stated she grew up in a time where a girl of her skin tone and hair texture was not considered beautiful. I was specifically referring to her. All of the 1sts had to straighten their hair or had different texture hair.

Marcelo Because this is the first time we’ve seen an all-black winners circle in pageant history. It has either been an all-white or non-black winners circle. Diversity doesn’t just have to occur within a certain place or event, it’s also recognized through time and history. The fact that this is the first time it has happened speaks volumes on how beauty is favored against black standards.
