When these were on air for the first time chatrooms were the big thing . Had a few "friends" that we watched the X- Files and chatted on line. This was the height of tech back then. It was a time to be alive and experience first hand. The times have changes so much since. Now with getting older loosing the memories of those times.

I love the episode Oubliette because it's both terrifying and deeply moving. Season 3 is probably my favourite season. The mythology is still strong and hasn't got over complicated. The comedy episodes are still funny and don't outnumber the spooky episodes like in later seasons. And best of all it has some of the best scary episodes of the whole series and two of the best monsters of the week in 2shy and Pusher.

4:02 - I think it makes some sense that Mulder would reject conventional religion because it's not really compatible with his belief that extra-terrestials are among us. The Abrahamic religions are _very_ human-centric and Mulder's beliefs are much wider than Earth or humans.

It's a very strong season with only 2 episodes I consider bad, and everything else being different degrees of good. Here's how I rank them: 24. Hell Money 23. Teso Dos Bichos 22. The List 21. Revelations 20. The Walk 19. Avatar 18. Talitha Cumi 17. Oubliette 16. Quagmire 15. Apocrypha 14. Piper Maru 13. 2Shy 12. Syzygy 11. D. P. O. 10. Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose 09. The Blessing Way 08. 731 07. Nisei 06. Wetwired 05. War of the Coprophages 04. Grotesque 03. Pusher 02. Jose Chung's From Outer Space 01. Paper Clip

Bleeping Jose Chung right where it should bleeping be. Same with Clyde Bruckman, although I’d rank them both kind of equally. And Pusher is mostly where I’d put it, too. It’s a perfect entry point for new fans. It’s clever and engaging without really subverting the format. But man, Oubliette ranks way higher IMO. Something about Mulder empathizing with unsympathetic victims just works for me. I’m much more into it than, say, 2Shy or Grotesque. But to each their own. Congrats on the list and the writing and editing of the video. I’m curious to see if you’ll take up Millennium as you reach season 4. I think it’s only available on DVD and has never been remastered in HD like TXF…

Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space' with the top honors! Def my pick! Charles Nelson Reilly is incredible and i love his speech at the end. A total rizzlord! Also, I WAS the glasses wearing geek character, Blaine Faulkner, when i was a kid, so i totally related with him (i actually had my mom buy me UFO magazines at the bookstore when i was a kid lol) and i could make a top ten list of my favorite moments from this episode, but i laugh my ass off the hardest when Jesse Ventura goes into his insane speech about the the Planet Venus! Isn't D.P.O. considered one of the best episodes? I often see it very high in best episode lists. For me it would be in the Top 5 along with Pusher. I can't really watch Clyde Bruckman's and Jose Chung's anymore because i have seen them soo often, whenever some of my friends started to watch X Files during the last 15 years they asked me about the best episodes, so i had to show them those. Ranking single myth episodes is kinda hard isn't it, i always see and watch them as one entity. Imo Season 3 has the best mythology of the whole series, all 4 double/triple episodes are great, with Nisei/731 probably my personal favourite. Season 3 is really the peak of it (unfortunately), after this season there is always at least one double episode that i don't like (season 2's was also great but it really just started to gain momentum there). But season 4 is also great in all respects and i'm looking forward to your videos.

yea season 9 is rough, i only really like 3 episodes, John Doe (7th), Hellbound (8th) and The Truth (final episode) - the last one is a hot take but i have good memories of it because as a kid i really liked it (it was also one of my first DVDs) and it's a much better finale than the last episode of season 11.
@JBSpookyReview2 ай бұрын
I love this series, but season 7-11 are rough. Peak X-Files for me are seasons 1-5. The show doesn't work when it's not Mulder and Scully and they've tried replacing them twice, both times being a massive failure.
@ODSTJake2 ай бұрын
@@JBSpookyReview Yeah I'm glad spender and Diana Fowley were short lived. Though their inclusion felt a bit more necessary cause they felt like a "dark mirror" version of Mulder and Scully in a way. With their names even being somewhat similar and how spender is a warning of what mulder could've become if he joined up with CSM. but yeah Reyes and Doggett are just....ok. While I love Robert Patrick as the T-1000 is hard headed-ness makes him a bit unlikable at certain points. I did enjoy the episode "4-D" since it did seem to develop their partnership a bit. Reyes feels like a weird scully and mulder hybrid at times where she takes certain aspects of boths personalities. I'm glad Skinner though is getting more screen time he deserves it. I feel bad for poor scully who's been sidelined and all that seems to happen with her is worrying about baby William. Im hoping the revival seasons bring back a bit of that old magic since they refocus on Mulder and Scully. And gotta admit as much as he's a bastard, I do Miss CSM. Sorry for the ramble but thank you! Your vids have helped me process the series as I've gone along and it's fun hearing your thoughts!
@schulzbrianr2 ай бұрын
It's a pretty good sign for a show when the "worse" half of the season is only bad compared to the better episodes, and the biggest complaint (in general) is that each episode had the potential to be great but just didn't quite take advantage of it. And if anything, I'd argue DPO should be higher (and I'd bump War of the Coprophages out of the top 10, personally). Your top two are definitely on point, regardless of the order. I also have the same uncomfortable feeling about using Unit 731 for entertainment purposes, but if it makes people aware and do their own research and find out about the atrocities that went on, I think it outweighs the negatives.
@JBSpookyReview2 ай бұрын
I love War of the Coprophages, but I can understand why others don't. But you're right, even the lesser episodes are still good, they're just not as good.

I can try and separate the mythology eps a bit more as overall they are my faves. And this season has my fave episode of the series! Do also love myself a good MOTW ep. My favourite season! 1. Paper Clip 2. Jose Chung’s FOS 3. Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose 4. Apocrypha 5. Piper Maru 6. 731 7. Nisei 8. The Blessing Way 9. Wetwired (Scully's paranoid angle was different and greatly done) 10. Quagmire 11. Talitha Cumi 12. War of the Coprophages 13. Pusher (man talk about tense seeing that Russian Roulette scene for the first time!) 14. D.P.O. (right about the music, I always crank the volume up when Hey Man Nice Shot plays, hahah. I actually cared more about Jack Black’s character than Gio Ribisi’s - not so much) 15. Avatar 16. Syzygy 17. 2Shy 18. Revelations 19. Grotesque 20. Oubliette The bad- 21. Hell Money (wasted it with Lucy Liu’s character, her scenes were boring. Lo Pan!) 22. The List 23. Teso dos Bichos (saved as worst IMO by the interesting music used, thanks to Mark Snow mainly) 24. The Walk (always remember being bored and frustrated through this).

Jose Chung's from Outter Space I never cared for. The reason is that the comedy is done well in X-Files when it's not related to aliens. When it does it undermines the seriousness of the other alien related things that have been happening. It's a line that was crossed too many times for my taste. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty to like there, it's just that it needed to be broken down and spread across different episodes for someone like me. I also couldn't help but wonder if the X-Files crew wanted their Twin Peaks episode, because that's as close as they ever got in terms of the tone.

Just can't stop grinning whenever I hear Louis Cardinal. I just get a vista of images of happy Mexicans wishing each other a very Louis Cardinal. pretty fair rankings. Did ya notice, thanks to editry, and putting the shots one after, that both Mulderation and Scullderino have Walther PPKs as their back up guns? Scully pulls one on Skinner and Mulder on the Chinese agent. You can envision them having a conversation about it. Probably on a long drive. Mulder going on about it being very light but packing a punch like a brick through a pane of glass, then how it's Jimothy Bond's gun, Scully playing with it and liking it, getting her own. You know. All that stuff they don't put in the episodes but have to have happened. We don't know Queequeg is dead, technically, I believe he is missing in action, living in the deep Canamerican woods. Seen from time to time as a fleeting, hairy beast. Sometimes the valleys echo to the constant rumbling of a tiny but foul flatulence, a malodorous fiend they call The Queee. Clyde Cheung is going to take the top two spots for anyone, except possibly for the clinically insane. S'probably more or less universal that the mytharc episodes crowd out the top range, since so many of them are deeply important, but, you know. I mean, the third season was the best season. Very few stinkers, lots of gold. S'like reviewing a Toblerone. Dang it now I want a Toblerone. You can buy custom Toblerones on amazon. Huh. Apparently there are limits on what words you can have on your custom Toblerone. Well, if I can't have my triangular treat proudly displaying WANGMASTER-SPLENDIDO then I'm just going to get some peanut butter kit-kat chunkys instead. I was chatting to a television commissioning editor today. She didn't think Sasquatch P.I. would work. She's responsible for Dogs Behaving Badly, though, so, I'm not too worried.
