Hardware is suffering because of high inflation eating up the value of your money to the point making a $400 plus dollar console purchase something you have to plan for, like buying a new car! People don’t have enough spare money to impulse buy like they used to.

Destin, I think you should better research Overwatch and Diablo numbers before trying to drive a narrative that both games aren’t doing well. Yes, Overwatch 2 hurt sentiment but it’s still one of the most played games across all platforms. Diablo 4 is also not a free to play game in comparison to POE. Saying it’s on gamepass isn’t even equivalent since you were using steam metrics to make the point. Gamepass isn’t on Steam. It sounds like you have an issue with some of the updates to those games but are carrying that sentiment as if it’s reflective across the whole player base. Hard stats don’t show that to be the case.

I get very frustrated when people are not honest about Xbox's situation. This kind of disingenuous behavior is the reason why Xbox is in the dire situation it is in, because diehards like Destin refuse to call a spade a spade. Without a doubt, the Xbox revenue report shows that Xbox is failing massively, and without Activision this year might have been the end of Xbox. The investors are going to see *it* that way, and Activisions leg up does not mask or take away from the fact that Xbox's other studios are performing extremely poorly, and the entire Xbox division (not including Activision) needs to be overhauled. You can deny this very obvious observation all you want. Your denials will only keep hurting the Xbox brand and will lead to more disappointment when Phil Spencer and co continue to go 3rd party in order to combat Xbox's inefficiencies. It is just that simple.

The Xbox diehards have to start living in reality. The reason the Xbox Series consoles aren't selling well isn't because people "don't want Hardware" It's because there is a lack of demand for the Xbox console in particular. While some lack of sales could be attributed to a slowing economy, & prices not dropping, it is clear that the demand between the PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox Series consoles are very different. While Nintendo dropped 17% last quarter, it was mainly because they are towards the end of their life cycle. PS only only dropped 2% last quarter. While MS dropped a whopping 30% last quarter & 31% this quarter, despite having a cheaper $150-$250 option in the market. There's this incessant need for Xbox fans to keep pretending that the woes of Xbox are an "industry wide" issue. Some issues are definitely attributed to that, but Xbox's issues are exacerbated by lack of brand enthusiasm & lack of market demand. These quarterly reports show that they aren't just stagnating, but they're actively losing market share. Without ABK they'd be -4% in Gaming revenue, and still -31% in hardware, while only being +1% in content & services. & of course they have record breaking MAU's. They literally count every person playing a MS owned IP, no matter what the platform, as an MAU. If you add CoD, WoW & Candy Crush to your portfolio, while pushing games to other platforms, you're bound to get more MAU's. MS Gaming does NOT equate to Xbox, as MS Gaming is doing great, Xbox is doing the exact opposite.

Sometimes it seems that the console makers forget the dynamic of their business. The real moneymaker or where revenue growth really comes is the digital store/the licensing. The hardware is the vehicle for the digital store, that's why they sell hardware at a loss and that's why you do price cuts on the hardware, to push boxes so people consume on the digital store. The 1st. party games you make is marketing investment to convince the consumers that they need your hardware and with that consume on the digital store. But the way they want to now operate the business is that everything must make revenue. That's why there hasn't been any price cuts, every 1st. party game that is made is a financial disappointment and with no consumers coming into the platforms the digital store doesn't sell enough.

Destin, people always criticize Xbox for not marking their games. Well it’s clear they don’t see the point of blowing huge amounts of money on something that will sell itself if it’s good.

I played through Andromeda and I really liked it. I thought the action was tight and the exploration was better than other Mass Effects games.

I think the console dip has to do with a lot of factors. 1. Covid as you said, but also that is kinda fractured because a lot of people couldn't get their hands on the things unless they wanted to pay double. 2. Saying that Xbox fumbled the launch da bit of Scarlett ( Series X) #1 with the name imo I think Scarlett was perfect. But, also they failed to deliver on halo not only on the launch date but the state of it when it finally did. It's awesome now but gamers are growing tired of the unfinished games that are not finished for 2 years into release but you still charge full price. I understand Game Pass factors in unlike Playstation but still. 3. Inflation is insane, basic life things are so expensive a lot of people don't have spare money or time with the increased work rates. 4. Kinda connected to #2 the millennial generation that made gaming boom have largely fallen out of games as the main hobby. They have moved onto less expensive things, especially with the low quantity of low quality, unfinished $70 and $80 games. I think Phil's strategy has been this since about half way through his tenure. And as a massive Xbox fan since the first one, I think he's right on. Xbox will be everywhere with every option you want, the soon to be handheld, the future boxes, some games on playstation and switch, PC etc. It's largely genius tbh, and if it keeps Xbox around for a long time I'm all for it. Because personally I think playstation is largely overrated, and that's not a console war opinion. It's just my personal preference.

it's the same for playstation, they sold 5 million less ps5 than the ps4 at the same period, compared to a difference of only 1 million between the xbox one and the xbox series at the same period. We're focusing on Xbox but that's a mistake. It's just the console market which is generally in decline. Even if Xbox will continue to make consoles, its main growth area is not in consoles, but towards the cloud, the PC, portable consoles and mobile. Playstation has understood this too, it's not for nothing that they are moving more and more towards multi-platform.

Sony is tanking. The last numbers we have are from Q4 because their Q1 numbers don't come out until May 14th. What Q4 showed was Sony made a profit of 2.7 billion while Playstation specifically only made a pathetic profit pf 237 million dollars.

ABK acquisition was essentially a financial bail out from Microsoft to its gaming division. Each division in Microsoft has to be financially independent from one another and by that metric, xbox has failed miserably.

Xbox is definitely going to abandon the Xbox fanbase. (I'm talking about those who have been playing on Xbox either *primarily* or *only* since either the Xbox or Xbox 360 days, depending on their age.) Their Xbox console-only fans are already being left behind and are already the least-considered by Xbox leadership. Those of us that play on both Xbox and PC are getting a different experience. And, to a lesser extent, so are the PC-only Gamers. It's the end of an era. But the end of an era comes with ushering in the beginning of a new one. I am curious to see what Microsoft changes Xbox into over the next few years. Specifically, I am curious to see how badly they are going to ignore and "mistreat l" their console customers and fans, and how much of that maltreatment their fans are going to put up with before they leave the console near-completely. Without doing something specificalky for the console market, which they very clearly are not going to do, I don't forsee Microsoft approving any more Xboxes past the 10th generation. Damn shame, too.
