The XT5 Condenser

This Cadillac XT5 came in with AC problems, but it turned out something had pierced the condenser, likely while driving. The condenser is exposed by the lower grill area, so it's best to avoid road debris like rocks or tire strips to prevent such issues. Fortunately, the damage was limited to the condenser. If it had pierced the radiator, the engine could have overheated, leading to more serious problems. We're currently doing a vacuum to ensure there are no more leaks. Once we add the refrigerant, the AC will work, and the owner will be cool again!

I appreciate your attention to detail and your integrity. We need more honesty, certainty more knowledgeable technicians, in automotive technology, especially with the cars of today.

Had it happen to my 2018 civic, it happens. Just got done doing the repair. You want to add mesh behind the bumper to keep shit from going in there.

I installed a speed grill in front of my condenser after replacing it. It was a tech service bulletin on my Toyota. Great idea to use special foam cleaner to wash bugs and dirt between radiator and condensor. Lowers head pressures on AC Compressor.

Well, KZfaq vids are a good "teacher"... Most of the repairs and maintainance I've done on my vehicles and others have been from KZfaq vids....Now, I can't bust down and overhaul motors, trannys, and rear diff's and stuff like that, I know my way 'round a Tool box purty good...Engines, trannys and Rear Diff's takes special knowledge, tools, and preferably a Shop with Air tools and such...Albeit, my older Bros did all that, back in the day, under a limb of a big , Oak tree...Soo, watch some vids and LEARN... That's how I did it...

Cars are a lot more complicated now and I do not think you can learn by watching. If you live in a big enough city, look for a technical school.

@@davidhamm5626 ...Well, from his post, I don't he is the type to learn about cars at a "Tech school "... Some people learn better by pictures and "hands on"...Reading tech manuals and flow charts ...I'd be there all day tryna understand them...Show and tell me how to do it...Then, I got it...I have a "Haynes manual", for my 30+ years old trk...I rarely use it...I watch KZfaq vids and get my "teaching " from that...Sadly too many "mechanics " are lazy and none will take the time and effort to actually show a person how to work on vehicles, but KZfaq mechanics will...And...you can watch the video or videos as many times as you want till you get a idea on how to repair your car...."Scanner Danner, Pine Hollow Diagnostics," and a few others will give you a good idea of how to do Diags....The "FREE" knowledge is out there if you can Google it....

If you can buy a little bit of an older car like early 2000’s or late 90’s they are usually pretty easy to work on and you will be able to find a ton of KZfaq videos to help you learn. I did this with a 91 Miata

On some cars and SUVs that lower section of the condenser has no protection in front of it. I have installed a strip of gutter guard plastic mesh in front of the condenser as a shield to deflect rocks and road debris. I considered it prevented maintenance on my daughter's RX330.

The thing won't overheat and kill the engine it would overheat and the temperature gage would tell the driver there was a problem and they would pull over and shut it off and he would be fine, after calling a tow truck and replacing the radiator, this guy is a by the book guy he only knows so much and says bad things will happen and doesn't fully understand what will happen, thats funny i am 18 and been working on old tractors and trucks since i was 8 i know more than him and he went to college or a automotive school and i was self taught and my dad helped me and he's been a self taught manncic for 50 years.

Many people don't look at their temperature gauge (if there is one; some vehicles don't have one.) I once bought a used car that one year earlier had its engine replaced because the owner kept driving as all the coolant drained on the highway. Many NC Miata owners blew their engines after the pressurized coolant reservoir neck lip cracked and blew out all the coolant in a matter of minutes.
