The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

It might be possible that people can and have written rock and roll songs that tight, explosive and powerful. I am skeptical of any claims that there has ever been a rock and roll so that was better though. It can only be tied for first place.

@@nandofigueira2005 Dino's a "Dino-mo". Another '60s drummer I like is Johnny Barbata of The Turtles. Absolutely. Saw the Young Rascals in NY around 1965-66. Blew me away. Dino was wound up like a spring. Never saw anything like him. What a great musician. When I see comments about Dino being underrated it makes me laugh. To most musicians and especially drummers he is right up there at one of the top drummers ever.

@@jennifersman7990 - Let me make this clear being a drummer who has shared the stage with the best of them. Keith Moon was a good drummer but he was not a Dino Danelli. Dino stands by himself. His technique and technical abilities went beyond “good” drummers. Dino is one of the best drummers we have ever seen and we saw many. Case in point. When Rolling Stone asked the question “what percussionist/drummer in a rock band was the most you focused on when you saw them on stage.” Guess who was number one? Correct, Dino Danelli.

Blistering - I've never seen this before. They would have given the mid '60s Who a run for their money which is saying something. Felix reminded me a little of an American Steve Winwood with his white soul voice.

Particularly impressive when you consider that most artists just phoned it in and lip synced... I mean, they had the option of doing that. But these guys are true musicians and understood how ridiculous the whole notion is, although there was nothing wrong with it in the 60's and 70's... that's just how TV worked back then.

I agree I think that is all live, from the music to the vocals. But where are the amps/ PA? Must be behind the curtain. No bass up there and there is no bass sound. Excellent.

@@alexsaitta4041 it was a live show TV show in a broadway type theater. The sound was set up for TV not picked up by stage amps. The bass sound like Ray Manzarek the bass was through the organ.

RIP Dino, I love the Young Rascals, I was a tween when their music blasted out of our radio, I had very young parents who of course loved rock and roll, so I heard all the 60’s music as the soundtrack of my life, the Rascals were happening while I was growing breasts and so surprised by all the guys woof whistling me & their AHOOGA car horns. RIP Dino.❤

Felix's dad was my dad's dentist. This was our local band until the world discovered them. And it didn't take long. I was only 9yo, my brother was 14 and a child prodigy drummer. He played in a band with high school kids and they all were in awe of Felix and the Rascals. It was such an exciting, special time. We lived through the peak of musical creativity. The 60s and 70s, and a little bit of the 80s. It's been downhill since... I feel so lucky to have lived back then to experience it - even in a small way. I feel sorry for my kids. The artists today - even the good ones - lean heavily on the music of our generation. There is very little, if nothing, anywhere near as exciting or even original coming out of this generation.

This is my second time seeing this. The first time was 57 years ago (wow)! I was in a five piece Long Island band at the time that included a Hammond organ with Leslie so we did a lot of Rascals tunes. Saw them at The Barge in the Hamptons - they blew us away, especially Dino. Absolutely the best years of my life. Thanks for posting.
