After a weather induced hiatus, the California Zephyr #5 arrived in Fort morgan at 1243 MST (7 hrs. & 38 min. late for various reasons including a 3 hour + delay in departing Chicago). There are a lot of rail breaks along the line including one just west of the Ft. Morgan depot. P42s #157 & #41 brought the 9-car (yes, 9) train to the first of two stops with car 2 to the station platform for 1 departing passenger. Then the train was moved ahead to bring car 7 to the same area for passenger service to 42 departing passengers (all Amish) then two new west bound fares and 3 smokers having nicotine fits that just had to smoke. While the passenger service was in progress, a crew change in the cab also occurred and a renewal of P.T.C. address had to happen as well. Almost out of town when one passenger realized a bad had not made it off the train. At last, Joe was able to give the high ball to the headend crew and on a clear signal at west Ft. Morgan CP the Zephyr departed for Denver's Union Station.
