Excellent Blackie, I'm glad you mentioned clothing as part of "cover", most people don't realize that clothing is the first element of cover/shelter and its importance!

Some time ago, guys showed their “10-piece kits” based on Canterbury’s 10 Cs. Blackie is showing us that each C is much more than a single piece of gear; it is a broader class of essentials adapted for differing circumstances, climates, and conditions.

You Sir are the cover King. Watching your years of video, I've gleaned most of my kit and skills along with Corporal's Corner and Far North Bush Craft. My 3 main go to channels for survival and Bushcraft information. Thank you so much for what you do.👌🤠👍

Great video Blackie. I never thought about "Cover" that way. I was thinking of tarp, tent or primitive shelter. But you're right, what you are wearing makes all the difference in the world. That's why I have always packed too much to go camping in northern Michigan. The weather here can change so fast, no matter what season it is. I've been camping in Michigan's Upper Peninsula the 3rd week of June and having snow flurries! Like we say here "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes".Does not make it easy for me to pack the right gear and save weight.👍

Some years back, I was out deer hunting in Northern Michigan (firearms deer season in Michigan is in late November.), I got lost, and had to stay the night in the woods. I did have my emergency kit with me, but didn't have a tarp in it. I built a fire, and kept it going all night long, but I would have been more comfortable if I had had a tarp, and some sleeping gear with me. I walked out of the woods in the morning.

I am a big fan of the Bushcraft Outfitters MEST tarp - 8'×5', folds up to fit in a cargo pocket, and comes in woods friendly colors. A MEST with pegs and a dyneema continuous Ridgeline always ride in my Blackbird.

Blackie , A Great Video on the 10' C great information on cover. You are helping me to remember things I forgotten over the years , from my Boy Scout and U. S. Army days in Germany and Oklahoma , Panama jungle training. Thank You so much for your time and teaching and passing on the knowledge and craft. I will always say. You Are The Master Woodsman and Bushcrafter. Thank again for taking time out of busy day to pass along the knowledge. Tim L.

You sir are a savage. More practical than most we see. And you always say that it doesn't have to cost a lot, just get what you can afford. There's always a way to make it work. Just think .

I would like to see a more in depth tarp shelter set. I’m pretty interested in how you have that cheap harbor freight tarp rolled up and put together, what you have with it and all that. Thank you, I enjoy your videos

The noise of the cheap tarp is the most off-putting part for me. I realize such things are very much a "first world" problem, but I go into the bush to restore myself. A big part of that is peacefulness. As always, I appreciate your efforts, Blackie.

Don't apologize for it... crinkly crackly sound would get on my nerves in short order. That is why I invested in an upper mid range milspec poncho 56"x86" as my cover. I have a few $1 (Dollar Tree) 4x6' blue tarps that are strictly for the ground. I doubt I'd get more than 2 times out of them - only a $1.

Comfort = Morale Morale = Survival (easier time of it) Always learn something from all of these ! In one way or another, each of the 10Cs compliment each other. My "luxury" is being able to have a fresh cup of coffee (Folger's Coffee Singles - like teabags but coffee) over the fire or Esbit or Canteen stove !

Hi Blacki. Still watching and rewatching your Kukri Videos and finding something new each day. One new question: You explained your viewpoint on cover realy well. What i wanted to know is, if you can go into this topic a litle bit further. What is a good way to develop the "cover" element of your kit? You suggested starting small and cheap with maybe a space blanked and you showed us what you are taking with you at the moment. What are the steps in between and what are your thoughts behind your "cover" decissions? I think small tarp with a hamok setup will not worke well but that's kinda obvious. What are the best / worst combinations of cover elements in your experience? Is not having a sleeping back worse than haveing no tarp? How can you improvise to improve your situation? (I liked your "squirl bed" story a lot but can't realy picture what you have done.)

Like you said, the clothing is the most important cover you can have. You can become separated from your tarp or equipment. But hopefully you won't loose your clothing. Footwear has got to be the most important part of that aspect. Loose the ability to walk at a reasonable pace due to a rolled ankle or blisters and that fun day in the bush just went to @#$%... Get a well fitting boot with decent ankle coverage and aggressive tread on the soles. I use to think rubber boots on a quad were ok moose hunting... Until I had to walk 7 or 8 miles out when the borrowed quad I was riding broke down. Sore feet was an understatement by the time I got back to camp. I also use to throw a couple extra large, heavy duty garbage bags in the pocket of my hunting coat as well.
