If there was ever a petition to make you a lead writer for Netherrealm I’d sign it

Having Kollector holding onto the treasures and trophies of the villains is an interesting concept, maybe even making him be the one who provided the body for Ermac would be fascinating. The only issue of making him a servant is that he would almost serve as an igor character.

The Kollector sadly suffers from what I like to call "the Baraka & Reptile effect". The creators need to give henchmen for their villains, character for the heroes to punch, and is hard for them to give interest stories arcs for them when their main story is already focusing in too many character, although that doesn't execuse them to not bother to at least give these henchmen some personality to make them cool and fun ( henchmen like Jaws and Oddjob from 007 franchise are there just to fight James Bond and yet are still able to be memorable characters)

In the story I'd replace Noob with Ermac, even as an npc fight using his new model. Ermac being tied to a soul mcguffin makes way more sense than "and then suddenly Noob". His failure to safeguard the crown could even be used an excuse for why he's unceremoniously chucked to his death in the krypt. Noobs final scene of course being, as stated in numerous reworkings, replacing Dvorah in Hanzos chapter.

That idea of the Krypt and main story happening simultaneously sounds dope!

It’s nice that they introduced a new race to flesh out Outworld I guess. Before I knew anything about him, I thought he was going to be a subset of the Shokan. Extra arms but smaller and weaker.

Shang Tsung is really the best character in MK that isn't Liu Kang or Kung Lao. So seeing both him and the poorly handled Kollector given better writing was really great. Nice job on the video, and I can't wait for more MK videos this may.

Not any characters, but as a normie, I think the friendship mechanic in MK is being wasted. I know friendship was made in MK3 to make fun of the people complaining about the fatalities, but I think special friendship can be used to help drive home the relationship between certain characters (kind of like Ryu and Ken’s special intro before a match). It can be Wholesome if the characters are close, hilariously humiliating if they’re rivals/enemies, or twisted if the victor is evil.

Kollector is the most forgettable character Netherrealm has ever created. There are times where I legitimately forget he's a character in MK11. I remember Cetrion, Geras and even Kronika. I always forget Kollector's existence.

In terms of the kollector imo it’s cool to have lore about these types of workers of outworld despite the harsh treatments. Had his character been given more a early days of mk like 2. He’d be like the toll for realm traversals

Netherrealm's mishandling of Kollector makes him the most "I forgot he even existed!" character in MK11. Having him run the Krypt as a custodian (and possibly a trader, giving you useful equipment in exchange for treasures you find in the Krypt, fleshing out the gameplay of the Krypt better) would have been a way better role.

Collector was clearly a character that NRS wanted on the roster for gameplay purposes, but they couldn't think of a good role for him in the story.

Knowing netherrealm they'll most likely drop him due to how less people care about him because if mk11 told us anything is that the fans can get what they want because mk2 is their only dream.

Such Wasted Potential

Kollector is the only new character from 11 where I thought to myself, “other than telling Shao Kahn about what happened in the future, why else are you here?” He literally had no other reason for existing as a character, (not saying I hate him though). I felt the same thing regarding Erron Black and Ferra/Torr in MKX.

It certainly makes more sense (even in terms of his name) for him to be a custodian of Shang's island. As for Mortal May, any chance of a Wasted Plotential on Defenders of the Realm? Either in terms of specific characterisation or just narrative broad strokes?

Kollector would've been a better fit in MKX. In MK11, he didn't have a chance to shine because he was overshadowed by other new characters that had close connections to Kronika or older characters with more history with the main characters. In MKX, Kollector could have helped boost the numbers on Mileena's army as someone we wouldn't normally see fighting if Shao Kahn were still around to use him for other tasks.

I love Kollector's design & purpose (obviously heavily influenced by Gollum), just a shame he wasn't given enough of a role.. they could've given him a rivalry with Kano, like they both always try to steal the same things

This raises an interesting question though as to how important characters should be in fighting games. I mean, isn't it at least a little weird that in a game with the premise of no central playable character there is still a central protagonist? We already have videos for how side characters are wasted and the successes and failures of new generations, but what about questioning the premise itself?

I'm sure the idea of collector was actually going to be him being apart of the kyrpt but when they got greenlight to get Cary to reprise his role for Shang, he was more useful for his own single player content rather than story mode. Then on top of it, the version in your story doesn't do Shang has much justice as it did in AM. It came full circle. Not just in that story but it came down to Liu and Shang once again like the first game. You also don't get to see the fantastic work they get from Cary in the same fashion. And also as important if even more so is that Shang is a far better option for DLC than Kollector would be. That was a smart business move. Just like how SF has had Akuma as DLC the past 2 games.

While I like the items used for the island that we have, your idea of it showcasing past fighters would do loads for the history of MK. We've had 500 years of tournaments. Could allow for some really wacky ideas, like having some tiny guy being super strong with some bronze coating like Cole Young, or even another member of Nitara's clan. They could almost be trophys for Shang Tsung, fighters who, like Liu Kang, had a chance at defeating him, but unlike the Champion, they did not succeed. So theirs are amongst his favourite souls to have taken, and Kollector knows this history and repeats it. Hell, if you want to get really, really fancy, could even have small fights against them, where they all fight similarly, but have different abilities. Just for Krypt flavour, and we fight as Shang. I think having this showcase, you could even have hints to characters either lost or stuck on the island. Like having Khameleon/Chameleon hiding there, and being found by the Krypt guy, as well as one of the Shang Tsungs monk zombies, after they've been resurrected.

Kollector was just another 'Baraka' or 'Reptile' the players could beat up again and again during the story mode. Another 'fodder' character... Shang Tsung was dlc because NRS knew that would make them a good amount of extra money.

NRS should hire you in some of their projects or spin offs (comics, mini series, etc.) just to test the waters.

the more everyone is sure MK12 is rebooting the franchise (and I hope it is too), the more I have this uneasy feeling that NRS will find some way to *not* do the best and most obviously correct thing with the new game. 'cause, you know, they've done that before.

So this is kinda a niche idea, maybe you could implement it into a Johnny focused episode to make it interesting, but whenever I reimagined Art Lee, I always pictured him as an MMA fighter that coached Johnny Cage back in the day, before he went off and became a Hollywood movie star. Then he could show up as fodder during the original tournament, shaming Johnny for commodifying their martial art for fame. Then maybe Cole Young is like Lee’s follow-up protege, who’s a hotheaded upstart who’s really derivative of Johnny. Maybe Cole and Johnny share a rivalry, so when Johnny beats Cole it props up the actors ego.

Hey 4thsnaker, i got a question for you (and i guess this could be a video idea) but if you were the person interviewing ed boon asking 166 rapid fire questions, what would you be asking?

Thinking about it there's 3 wasted opportunities with Collector. 1.) What Snake did here 2.) Replace Geras act as a 3rd henchman to Kronica who acts as her record keeper of events and trinkets of timelines past. 3) The new big bad buy that's been watching all the madness unfold for thousands of years. He'd have been a perfect way to take the game back to it's roots by having someone so unsuspecting be the main villain. Then you could also play with the idea of who the henchmen/sub-boss is. In my mind Chameleon and Khameleon would be perfect as a Noob/Smoke type character. Narratively, the reason why they're around but never get involved is because their sole goal is to be the ones grabbing trinkets and and collecting information to bring back to their master. Their undying loyalty coming as a result of the Collector being the one who saved them from Shao Kahn's merger. Allowing Reptile to naturally take more of an important role to the plot. To tie up loose ends from the comic, establish Collector as a firm threat, and to really allow the MK9 timeline to finally be free of repeating the same general events; give Collector a moment where he explains to the heroes that they should be grateful since he tore Goro apart before he fully became Onaga. From there, the plot serving as an almost inverted Deception. You have a Zombie/Revenant Liu Kang (and now also a Kung Lao) that could/would be a major player. Dark Raiden running around with his shenanigans. Making good on the MKX ending, Jade healing herself and maybe going on to war with Revenant Kitana for control of a freed Edenia. Collector himself acting as a sort of Evil Shujinko that, if not knows moves from most of the other characters, then has perfect counters and adjacent abilities to what they can do. Especially, or strictly moves of past bosses. He has Shinnok's amulet, which will be what pisses off Dark Raiden. Maybe the head of Kahn's war hammer at the end of the chain instead of the spiked ball. He can maybe open portals with a scroll like Quan Chi. Maybe another scroll or move to summon a demon/zombie or fire balls like Onaga or something. Then as the name suggests, and once again to parallel him to classic Shang Tsung, he could've been the one that taught Shao Kahn how to absorb and "collect" souls. The Master of the master of the sorcerer, if you will. Which could play into the idea that Kahn was once a Raiden type of guardian who grew consumed with the desire for power. The only real difficult part would be to come up with a motivation from the Collector as a main villain that wouldn't just turn him into Brainiac type of character. The best I can think of currently is maybe a sort of warped compassion where he's tired of seeing his favorite things hurt and destroy each other. So he's stepping up to take control of his living collection, whether willingly like Chameleon/Khameleon, or unwillingly as he snatches their souls. The core of the narrative being Mortals engaging in Kombat to either preserve, maintain, or regain their free will.

As a big fan of the funny tax man, i like and hate how irrelevent he is. in the grandest moment in all of history, the former big bad's IRS shows up and is never mentioned again. but he could have been so COOL!!

I'mma be real with you homie, there was a lot of strange and downright unnecessary changes and scripting to certain characters especially the retcons, The unseen potential is also unfortunate for some characters. I think one change that bugs me the most is how they handled Sindel

Collector was the 1st character i played because I had no idea who he was .first I hated his moveset....then I learned and loved him....then he got buffed and I didn't like him anymore but after all the updates I still like it

Kollector is just another new Monster character like ferra torr, Goro, Baraka, etc. he is mainly exist to appeal for Goblin fans There is nothing deep about him outside like Adding a new Goblin-like Race into MK Universe.

I would’ve liked him if he was neutral force giving items and info to both sides. Heck with that change, he could replace Charron removing part the sudden Greek influence in 11 and guide the heroes to Kronika

I'm not huge into MK lore. I grew up watching the original live action MK movie. Shang Tsung always felt like a main villain character, whether it was from his demeanor, his cunning, or his power. So to hear that he was subservient to someone who only seemed like their only character traits was that they were very strong, and the type to punish failure with death, it hurt. I loved Aftermath cause they really showed what he can do when he's left to cook. Going so far as turning his former master into a tool for his own ends, before sucking his soul up to further fuel his power.

Kollector in MK11 is like Atrocitus in Injustice 2. They're there to pad the roster without bringing anything to the narrative. And unlike Joker in Injustice 2, they don't have the star power to attract customers with their name alone.

I actually liked Kollector from the beginning. Storymode wasted him a bit but he is a decent fighter and I like his design. The only change I dislike is making Sindel a villain from the beginning.

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of the rewritten story aspect, as I don't see or necessarily want Shang Tsung to pull a face-turn and genuinely team up with his enemies. I know that was before the rewrite, but it's why I think Aftermath, problems aside, really gave the character a "redemption" back into actual villain territory. I do think the Kollector fits better as Tsung's personal minion, though. I think it would explain why he has so many weapons on him; they could be from various warriors drained by the sorcerer.

The thing with Kollector is that I honestly wouldn't mind focus on him, Reptile, Baraka, or any of the Outworld races. Because imo, the least needed characters are the Special Forces characters. I already thought Sonya and Jax were the most boring characters; and their kids were the most boring newcomers from MKX. It's also why I hate that they tied Erron Black into Kano's crew, because he was way cooler as a centuries old Wild West Cowboy who was abducted and survived in Outworld. It's this idea that there needs a character like Johnny Cage, Sonyq Blade, Jax, Striker, or even *sigh* Cole Young, but no, just have a charismatic character people can root for, and a bunch of weirdos. That's it.

To me Kollector is the last member of a sub-race of shokans. And in my head he wiped all of his own kind, due to his greed. Maybe he sold them out to Shao Kahn. Dunno if that makes sense, I kinda lost track of the lore around MK9.

Yeah, it is rather confusing why they added Kollector in MK11 if they'll just reboot it in MK12. Personally, I think they should have just put him in MKX and make him Kotal's henchmen...though it would still be confusing as to why he wasn't in the original timeline.

Imo to improve the overall roster; Remove Kharon and have his role be filled by Sareena who’s playable. Replace Kollector with Taven. Merge Kronika, Geras, and Cetrion. Add in Kobra and Kira. Have them be the people fought in the fight club and make Kabal a secret good guy who’s undercover.

Like, what even is the Kollector? I feel like they took that Bloodstorm ad in the Simpsons seriously and made a guy with six arms, but he wastes four of them cause he's too lazy to get some strap for his backpack. Then he has like one fight in the game with second in the Aftermath and both times he loses (I don't remember if has more fights, that's how boring he is). 1:01 So yea, a whole new race, but Motaro or any centaur is still nowhere to be found (outside of Sheeva's intro where she rips Motaro's head into pieces). Boon is still too lazy to make a four-legged guy in 3D. Didn't even have to be playable, him and his race could've been the big army Kronika is building instead of generic demon-undead things.
