Excellent video and very helpful! Just finished installing this exact clutch in my GTS Sportback. Thought I'd share some tips and observations that might help others (in no particular order): 1. I encountered some minor differences to the car in the video, which I assume is the 2.0L, but nothing that couldn't be easily figured out. 2. Did the job in my driveway on jack stands, so very doable for the weekend mechanic. Just get the front end of the car as high as possible so you have room to drop the transmission. I used a couple wood blocks on the jack to make sure I could get the jack stands high enough. 3. I was able to do the whole thing by myself, with the exception of putting the transmission back into the car. Definitely needed an extra set of hands and eyes to line it up. 4. I could not for the life of me get the transmission back into place without removing the 3 studs for the top transmission mount. They kept hitting the frame rail when trying to lift and angle the transmission back into place. 5. I removed the front transmission mount bracket to create more space for maneuvering. It's only held on by 2 bolts. 6. The 3 bolts holding the rear transmission mount bracket were really REALLY stuck for me. I ended up removing the mount itself that is attached to the subframe to create more space to get leverage on those bolts. 7. I used an engine support bar and transmission jack from Harbor Freight. Worked out just fine. 8. I ordered a LUK brand flywheel from Rock Auto. It's identical to OEM, except it didn't come with the dowel pins to align the pressure plate. I was able to find some on Amazon that worked perfectly. They are 8mm in diameter and 3/4" in length. Search for "Flywheel Dowel Pin Set, 8mm Diameter, Extra Long, 8 Pack, Compatible with Dune Buggy." 9. If replacing the flywheel, you'll need 7 new flywheel bolts since they're torque-to-yield. OEM part number is 1120A138. 10. The clutch alignment tool that it comes with did not work for me. It fits into the crank, but very loosely. The weight of the clutch disc just causes it to fall right off. I measured the hole in the crank and it's 15mm. The clutch alignment tool was about 0.5mm too small in diameter. Autozone has a metal clutch alignment tool for $20. You can rent it, but I just ended up buying it since I know I'll need it for my other cars. 11. My car has 125K miles, so I also replaced the rear main seal while I had access to it. Just a bit of cheap and easy preventative maintenance. 12. If you have trouble getting the axles back into the trasmission, grease the splines and retaining ring. Should slide right in if you do that. 13. My clutch master cylinder had failed, so I replaced that as well. It's a plastic piece of junk. Amazingly, the Evo X uses the same one, so you can find videos and write-ups on how to access/remove/replace it. I suspect that that metal aftermarket ones for the Evo X would work, but I just went with one from Rock Auto. 14. Reverse bleed the clutch. I first used a vacuum bleeder, but I believe that still leaves an air pocket between the bleeder nipple and slave cylinder.

hey mate, I know this is an old comment but really want to say THANKS for all the additional comments especially about having to undo the top mount studs. I'm also doing this on an australian delivered VRX 2.4 I've been swearing and cursing trying to use a trolley jack with zero hope of getting the box back in (unsure how I managed to get it out... as there just isn't a flat surface on the bottom to lift with. I've also had to undo 3/4 of the sub frame bolts to try to try and get enough clearance to get the box back in due to the diff getting stuck on it. I've also had to build a basic gantry out of framing pine and use a come a long to lift the box up from above to have even a remote chance of getting it back in. i ended up just holding the engine in place from below with a jack stand and a piece of wood to hold the engine in place. my slave cylinder arm snapped when trying to lift the retaining circlip up. so had to organise another one through the supplier. the OEM slave cylcinder plastic seems alot beefier then the aftermarket one which has snapped.

@@havabeer1 glad it was helpful! It’s definitely a challenging DIY job, but gratifying in the end. Sounds like you got the box back in by yourself, so kudos! I could not do that without help. I had to replace the slave cylinder with an aftermarket one because it was a 6 month wait for an OEM one from Japan. Hoping it holds up, but so far so good after about 8000 miles!

I know this isn’t a tuning video but I’m having a hard time finding anyone that tunes a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS in Philadelphia? I also have a question about my trans or clutch, so when I shift into second gear and I’m letting of the clutch I can feel Im guessing is the flywheel or something spinning like I feel the teeth on the bottom of my feet spinning and I don’t really feel it grab on but it somehow grabs on and sometimes it buckles, I can also go thru all the gears fine, maybe I haven’t noticed it on other gears as much but second definitely doesn’t feel right. what would you recommend?

Hi i love your video, Can i ask how did you bleed the clutch ? I recently change my clutch but my press pedal is all air
@AdvancedClutchTechnology
@AdvancedClutchTechnology Жыл бұрын
Unless you have a vacuum bleeder, you will need two people to bleed the clutch hydraulics. One inside the vehicle to operate the clutch pedal and one to open and close the bleeder screw. Make sure the fluid reservoir stays between the MAX and MIN marks throughout the bleeding process. 1. Attach a hose with a bottle to the bleeder screw located on the bleeder T. 2. Press the clutch pedal down slowly. 3. Open the bleeder screw to let air and brake fluid out. 4. Close the bleeder screw. 5. Release the clutch pedal. (You may have to physically pull the pedal up until there is pressure in the system). 6. Repeat the above steps until only brake fluid and no air comes out.

@AdvancedClutchTechnology

We loosened the subframe we did not remove it. The extra half inch or so made it easier for transmission removal. This is what we did you can try your own method. If you are able to get the transmission out with the subframe tight leave us a comment and let us know. You don’t need to use an engine hoist that’s just what we used. You can support the engine from underneath just make sure that you use something in between like a block of wood or something similar to distribute the load of the engine.

Anyone know how to bleed a slave cylinder while doing this if we are replacing while the transmissions open on this same car? Or has any good references
@AdvancedClutchTechnology
@AdvancedClutchTechnology 4 жыл бұрын
You need to bleed the slave cylinder with the transmission bolted to the engine in the car. Once the hydraulics are connected you can go about bleeding the hydraulic system like you would any other vehicle. The only real difference is the bleed screw is bigger and plastic instead of being a small metal bleeder. To bleed the clutch you will need two people. Make sure to put a hose on the nipple of the bleeder into a bottle so you do not make a mess. To start pump the clutch pedal a few times to see if there is any pressure in the hydraulics. Then step on the clutch pedal and hold it down. Then Have your helper loosen the bleeder, once pressure is out of the line close the bleeder then lift the pedal back up. Repeat this step multiple times and keep trying this until the air is out of the line and you can feel the clutch. Be sure to keep toping off the fluid in the reservoir. If you suck in air at the master cylinder you will need to start the bleeding process all over again. If there is zero line pressure sometimes the pedal will stay on the floor don’t worry just pull it up manually. Good luck! If you have anymore questions Please call our tech department and they can walk you through this process step by step. (661) 886-9033.

Hello, can you help me? I already changed my clutch, got my car finished on Friday, I didn’t know about the break in period, I only drived the car nearly the redline like 2 times, and drove it downhill like for 30 minutes on 2nd gear smoothly, now That I know of the break in period, I’m taking a it easy... Could I have glazed it?

@AdvancedClutchTechnology 4 жыл бұрын
@@juancruseeramos2752 We never removed the cables. We removed the two clips that connect the cables to the trans. Then we unbolted the bracket that holds the cables to the trans and moved it out of the way.
