PvP Died off after Mod 5, they banned half the accounts in game, closed the gateway for doing professions online, and made refinement a nightmare. When mod 6 came out they ripped out 80% of the dungeons. The Foundry had incentive both on the player and creator side was the cherry on top from a D&D perspective. We used to have full skill trees. A lot of the tooltips were wrong and some were broken so when they overhauled the level cap they made it so you get a certain number of skills and a choice between 5 feats. You used to have to pick which powers you got from a list of like 30 but most casual players got lost in the sauce i think

Yes. I played back when lvl cap was 50. You could start pvp at lvl 10 and almost instantly found a group. I leveled a rogue entirely from pvp and it was amazing. Making your own instances was really fun as well.

The armor for the master crafting is really good but the weapons are the best to make because those that have it they give you buffs for those that also have the weapons equipped and the buffs for one person is 2% outgoing damage, damage reduction, and outgoing healing

I've played since Mod 2, February, 2014. The game was ruined by Mod 6, then Mod 16 and then Mod 19. There is virtually no freedom of choice at all and they ripped the guts out of levelling up (the most fun part). Even rolling a character, there is now only ONE set of attribute scores you can have and they do not even follow D&D rules. {:o:O:}

I've been playing Neverwinter since it first came out in 2013 with my two sons. Was fun up until they reduced the player level back to 20 and limited the adventures. Unless a person wishes to "spend" a lot of $ to progress above level 20. But making money is what it's all about, isn't it....

Yep really streamlined, I miss leveling with the Foundry. As for astral diamonds the market really fluctuates. King one day (module) bum the next. That bard, I would definitely trade for a druid. A lot of people always say adding a new class means they have to rebalance the game. They've been balancing since day one I don't see a problem, that's their job. Good vid, game used to be so much bigger and better.

Something I've always wondered about, is the delay in damage to the health bar. Like when you hit an enemy and the hp bar lowers like a sec later. At first I thought it was the servers, but it seems like that is just the way the game plays.

i played never winter very early on around 2014? and have been doing so on and off, a beloved original character came out of me playing that game for so long playing as warlock, and i gotta say the level 20 cap had me feeling like i was being gaslit. as well as certain classes feeling like they're heavily reliant on a second player being there as well made things so off. personally i do like the repetitive farming nature to a certain degree, but i gotta agree animations and inputs ARE delayed in combat. as much as it has its pitfalls, it still has some nice sides to it.

That's a pretty fair assessment. I used to play back during the Mod 12 days (current Mod is 25) and only recently returned. I only returned because I like the combat. Everything else does a serviceable job as a stage for said combat. I play solo. Just wanted to mention that for reference. So my own key observations are really condensed. Earn Astral Diamonds. An easy way that I found is to build a character, level them all the way to max level and claim all the reward boxes. In addition to the AD, you will get a chance to play all of the classes. As a solo player, Bard is the weakest class. It's entire gimmick/mechanic is to be a team buff vending machine. Put the coin in and watch the bard play. Because of its very focused team abilities, it is very anemic by itself. I have leveled one to max level, so it can be done, but that was painful. The start of your end game gear is no further away than the Adventure Seals vendor. Even better, the Auction House has plenty of relatively inexpensive gear. Don't upgrade Mount Collars, Mounts or Companions. It's actually cheaper to shop the Auction House. Still expensive but not as expensive as buying the upgrade components. Things I wish I knew about three weeks ago.

i recently returned to this game and man is it beautiful i got my cousin into it and we love it so much were still new but enjoy questing together

I played the beta and of course release. Almost daily up until i think the third expansion came out. I just couldn't grind fast enough to stay relevant and i was a teen :') But i did enjoy my time for the majority. Made some of my best online gaming memories and friends back then in this game.

It takes a year (a real life trip around our sun) to exchange Astral diamonds for Zen. The best in slot gear for end game is Masterwork weapons you craft yourself in the workshop. If you thought the railroading experience of maxing out your level, which is earned with participation trophies, was boring, then get ready to enjoy the workshop clicking until your eyes dry up and your mouse finger goes permanently numb. Also there are "battle passes" that you can earn crackerjack toys from or just pay real money to play a game that is free to play.

this can be really fun from a pvp perspective, theres some good combat proper archtype weaponry. ..the game does exactly what its suppose to , if any major problems occur i hope patch cycles continue to fix

Looking into this game before trying it out. Seems like it is clearly based on 4th edition D&D, but if that's the case I wonder why max at level 20? 4e went to level 30. Missing out on Epic Destinies.

Neverwinter used to be fun. Then it got the Cryptic treament, like STO. Half the game removed in the name of streamlining, dungeons never to be seen again, then dripfed back as "new content". Every "module" made your gear meaningless, fully upgrading for end game costing insane time and/or money investment. Guilds became a grind and boring, quests were low effort after a while. It is a shell of its former self, like anything PW touches (see Torchlight).

As a Day 1 player (For XBOX release), this game has taken some absolutely wild turns in the mods especially when the overhaul came and essentially took all our hard earned work and hours for skill trees and threw em right in the trash. Yes this game is pay to win but if you’re only running PVE then no big deal. I’m not going to say no to an op team mate. But this is essentially what killed pvp as you may know. Oddly enough though I’d still tell people to give this game a shot because the lore and environments are amazing and I loved combat as most classes. I mained as a Great Weapon Fighter (Barbarian) and I ran most content for a good while. Be prepared to grind though, as it is an mmo lol

I am an on again off again Neverwinter player, a filthy casual really, but I'd argue Neverwinter is not for fans of D&D but rather for fans of Forgotten Realms story world. For instance people who have read the Drizzt books, will find a lot they love in this world. The mechanics are very different than what one would find in D&D table top.

Actually picked this up this week for a little break from ESO. Its a nice vacation, but between the server hitches and the crafting system just being a waiting game that never works- its not a classic main stay mmo. its a 'do adventures with friends when you have content to do mmo'.

An afternoon to get to lvl 20 and then a lifetime of grind to keep up with the endless item lvl creep.

They dumbied down the character creation system where you had many more choices, they dumbied down the leveling process you could level any where you wanted now there is a leveling path. The game constantly puts out stuff and nerfs them a few months later if not years later. The LFG isnt working right all the time. PVP is pretty dead but it is fun. Crafting is not great only thing that is better than rewards is the masterwork weapons. Supposedly MOD 26 is coming with better crafting but that will probably last for one MOD. Good video.

I don't know what it used to be like but as a new player after 2 months I'm still into it. Not a lot of modern MMO can keep my attention like this one did

You didnt mention in your DDO video that they too have many classic DnD moules brought into the game, such as Haunted halls of eveningstar, temple of elemental evil (DMd by Wil Wheaton) and keep on the borderlands. and Ravenloft was an entire expasion

You've forgotten that the professions items and ingredients you claim can also be sold in the tarmalune trade house for an easy way to get astral diamonds and then there is also Mastercrafting which is basically an end game based profession and there are 2 different mastercrafting to get (3 for the new mastercrafting profession coming up in 3 days) which you can get by grabbing the books of the artisans in the guild stronghold (the books for the first mastercrafting is in there and it's for chultan mastercraft the second one is sharandar mastercrafting which can be claimed if you get all of the books in the stronghold which the entire amount for that is 7.7 million astral diamonds

i used to play this game. i guess i quited after tiamats release. the game was buggy for a while but i came back but left again after another big buggy update. they eventually fix things yet then lvl cap reduced and some big changes happened and i quited. they have internet bro, they can ask community what players want and continue on that. if i saw their interest, i wouldnt leave the game but they plan things differently. i dont know how the game is right now, i might try it in future

Im currently playing God of War Ragnarok .. once Im done with that im thinking of returning to Neverwinter or I might get in to Diablo 4 as it looks pretty good and I've never played it before .. Or I might play both ! Very good and fair review 👌

I have 6000+ hours on neverwinter. I loved it, but i hate it now. Every time they release new content, the max item level also goes up. Meaning, more gears, comps, mounts, dungeons, and grind. It also means more hours needed to grind the new gears just to keep up. It didnt bother me much when i was still studying, but now i have work and i can no longer play this as much. You need to pour hours and hours in this game just to get better things, if you dont have time, you'll be forced to just buy using real money. I hate it Also the backlog for AD to Zen is so long, you can forget about until next year

The game sometimes not registering my input is one of my many gripes with this game I really like to play. I treat it like a global cooldown, that is never displayed or explained, by now. But that shit has no place in a game focused around action. I'm still very early into my journey into Neverwinter and the many currencies are still making my head spin. But I do understand that Gold is practically useless aside from buying some kits or potions from vendors. The cash shop definitely rules the roost. Most of the loot I found so far is either just a point increase in some currency which takes up storage space, or a loot boy you have to pay to open. There is no interesting loot in Neverwinter, unless you pay, is my impression so far. That said, I'm really just starting to scrape the surface as far as content goes, playing "Legacy Campaigns" and other shit you can easily do solo, with the catch-up mechanics and the stupid scaling in the game. It just feels like the trial version so far, like after 50 hours. None of it remotely challenging, none of it even having me think about inviting maybe one other player to my party.

Idk. Some of the cons you listed feel like pros to me. I dont like PvP in any MMO setting. And I definitely will take simpler class construction over systems akin to WoW or Rift. I also like that Neverwinter is an MMO you can be off/on with at your own discretion. I think Im gonna give it a go.

Neverwinter should adopt the reincarnation system that exists in the DDON game, it would be much better than creating a level 0 character without any benefit and would give some relevance to the old content that would always have players in the old area helping new players and would not make the game seem dead!

I had a really hard time with the interpretation of the classes, races, and the stuff that is there for flavor but does not affect the game.

Here is why Neverwinter dies. Many players like me have 5 or 6 level 20 characters. Then we stop playing that character. Basing a game in dnd adventures and then adding the crafting aspect is game breaking. Based on the premise of being a dnd game. And there is no sense of progression at 20. A character with a low or high gear score can do the exact same things.

Foundry may have sounded like a good idea but was mostly very mediocre quests or quests created to exploit for gold/stone drops. I only ran it for the astral diamond bonus. I didn't hear you mention the load-outs (may have missed it) .. which aren't talent trees but add some depth in that you can switch powers based on the challenge at any campfire. They also allow characters to fulfill multiple roles (dmg/healing/tank). I feel games with a lot of depth in the talent trees are a lot of noise and people choose the abilities with the most effectiveness anyhow .. so you might as well just have a limited set of effective abilities.

The delayed action is the main drawback for me, its like playing browser mmo, everything doesnt fell satisfying, i was hoping its similar to pso2 since im crave such a fast paced combat even tho im fking noob, Still i will keep playing it at least until level 20.

I've been playing about 8 years or so. The steal diamond exchange.... change in game currency for cash shop.... is broke. Many things in the shop can be sold in the auction house. It's more profitable to do buy things and sell them vs putting the cash up on the exchange. 3 years ago I'd have a different opinion. Today the game is pay to win. You need coal motes to upgrade your artifacts and enchants at 10$ a pop. There are often sales for 50% off or 3 for 15$ The main issue is you do not earn in game currency. You earn rough currency that can be converted. Just a click of a button. That is limited to 100k a day. It dont matter if you have 2 million rough astral diamonds it only allows you to convert 100k per day. Need something that is 2 million astral diamonds. Well save up for 20 days. You can still earn everything completely free however it will take many many moons. As I said I've been playing 8+ years. This was I believe 2018 I was bored so I sat down wrote out all endgame gear and their current prices. At the time it would take a completely free player to reach end game I believe it was 14 months. Naturally that can be expedited with getting drops that can be sold. That was based on just the 100k a day. Which being a mmo putting a year plus in isnt uncommon for players. A youtuber did a from zero to hero series. Today it would take a new player about 30 months to do so. As for crafting. At master level the crafted weapons are best in slot. Should you play neverwinter. I say yes as long as you are just playing for the experience. if you enjoy D&D it will be a "fun" experience leveling through the adventures and then the campaigns as you'll encounter NPCs and heroes tou are familiar with. Even non D&D fans will find the early game enjoyable. If you go into it planning on becoming the best of the best. You probably won't have a good time.

I'm an end gamer and one of the best dps in NW currently (even though I am currently taking a break from the game) and I will be completely honest with whoever reads this comment. The game as it is right now is not very new player friendly unless you're willing to spend real money to quickly get yourself insignias, enchantments, and artifacts so you can start playing end game as soon as possible, since casual players are capped at making like 300k astral diamonds on a good day if they grind for quite a bit, while end gamers be making millions per week, but spending a lot of money in a game like Neverwinter that is already kinda old wouldn't be quite wise in my opinion. The game is dying for sure so, I wouldn't spend 500 bucks on it to achieve what I mentioned. But even if you're like "well I still wanna give it a shot" and get to a decent item level, you still aren't guaranteed to be invited to play end game. The end game community in Neverwinter can be briefly described as elitist, but with a bunch of simps as well. So you either excel at your class and become a top player, and also friends with end gamers somehow, or you're a girl and become friends with some of the end game simps out there. The girl option is the easiest since end gamers in NW have a huge ego so that even if you're good a lot will not invite you if you threaten their fragile ego. (You can join the official Neverwinter discord to quickly notice who are the nerds with a huge ego trying to disguise their "I-know-more-than-you-bro" attitude with "I'm just trying to help") (if you still wanna try, just don't become a healer. Healing endgame in NW is so simple that nobody needs healers. They need good dps and good tanks) Now if you aren't interested in end game at all, you don't need to spend any money but as the video stated, the quests and activities are very repetitive and boring so after a month or two you'll be tired of the game.

You *CAN* pay money/Zen for a random *CHANCE* of an Artisan you do not already have. You cannot choose the one you need. Chances are you will get one you already dismissed three or four times. The first year was fun, and then they decided it wasnt making enough money and started fucking everything up. It was best when it had the ability for players to make quests and dungeons.

After playing for 5 years, 3k hours, with about $3k spent on Neverwinter until Mod 16, the answer is: No. No, it's not worth playing. Avoid it at all *costs.* Pun intended.

I don't think you can get ZEN with AD unless someone buys it with cash sells it for AD. The progression to lvl 20 is horrible and pushes away ppl that want a meaningful experience from the beginning. The game is made for lvl 20 onward, what's the point to lvl chars from 1? I like this game, but this issue had friends not staying enough to get to the enjoyable part.

Collections and Achievements give you NOTHING on PC. Completing Adventure Zones gives you rewards. Player count has dramatically, drastically decreased. Never trade Zen for Astral Diamonds. Getting AD for Zen takes 9 or 10 months on PC. {:o:O:}

The game was fun until module 3 after which they removed dungeons, secret bosses, nerfed equipment after a few months and it would take about 10 YEARS for you to have the best weapons and armor in the game without spending money, the game has become aggressively P2W! I revisited M2 playing on the Revowinter private server and was able to experience again the fun that this game used to have!

Could’ve just said it’s pay to win!! Gear and lvl doesn’t matter, only your upgraded wards matter, the upgrades you have to pay for it, maxing out will cost you 1500$+ in real money. Guilds are useless and the enemies in the guild area will wipe the floor with you in end game if your not maxed out !!

So there isn’t a private server where it’s done properly like UO or EverQuest?

Lol 'respects players time' untill your looking to upgrade your insignias and mount collars and companions and mounts. The loot boxes are highly predatory, and ultimately there wouldn't be Mythic and legendary Mount's for sale in the Auction House if the game didn't have such a large gamberling player base, also you can't earn Zen if there's no one buying it or looking to buy Astral diamonds which is why it take so long to convert Astral diamonds to zen, without the whales and the predatory monetization the free to play players would be totally out of luck when it comes to reasonable progression for player time. Neverwinter is without a doubt pay to win its just good at hiding it, mostly thanks to the players themselves rather than the developers. And now gear is getting locked behind harder and harder group content, which means after you manage to open ancient dragons if you want to actually earn better gear you have to find a guild with players willing to run content that they no longer need to be doing, and even if you do manage to find a group within a couple months power creep will come along, you will forever be chasing the carrot, and gear you may have spent millions of ad trying to farm becomes practically useless a few modules later. Neverwinter isn't the worst free to play game but it's not worth the time it takes to reach upto date content and to be able to perform your role effectively in all Dungeons. A true free to play player can spend 1000hours on Neverwinter and still only be able to get into half the Dungeons and they may not even be effective at there chosen role after that 1000hours

After about 6 years of playing Neverwinter, I agree with most of what you said. It probably helps that, I have never been interested in crafting. I also believe, the whole point of D&D is, it is not PVP. They should just get rid of that part of Neverwinter. I agree, the game play, particularly the campaigns could be more interesting. I also agree about the class options, but would go further. It is a little frustrating that there is only one or two options for choice of powers that is really effective. This makes the characters even more similar to each other. For example, I have a Dragonborn Wizard that I want to be all fire attacks. It is really under-powered. Overall though, it's a really fun game, and my favourite PS game.

Played it for 10 years then switched to STFC. Both I find good to play but rely on money to compete...the old familiar Pay-to-win strategy. Most MMORPG’s have headed that way, unfortunately. Well, to keep their Software Engineers they hoots pay them big, I guess?

neverwinter is the fastest to level up only 2 weeks up to 1 month your in max level.

You can no longer exchange astral diamonds for Zen. Nobody is willing to sell their Zen for 750 astral diamonds each. That is how it is on the PlayStation version anyway. I put an offer to buy just 12 zen in two weeks ago and am still waiting. It will never happen. There are over 25 mil requests to buy Zen at the highest price allowed. It is sad, but premium pass it pretty much required to play this game now.

Just so you know, I'm also fairly new to this, with only four months of experience. I've managed to max out my endgame DPS and I'm currently working on an op healer. 100 hours in you would have been more knowledgeable but good video nevertheless

I quit this game. The devs spent more time trying to get new players and the pay to win was HEAVY! They didn't give two shts about the existing player base and the class balance was horrible. Every expansion yould go from one of the most wanted classes to the least, this made gear progression horrible. Also the daily quests were just tortures. The game feels more like a job than a game.

PvP was killed because people are bullies online. There is no fun in being bullied which I have seen in just common chat. I have played StarTrek Online and Neverwinter for over 10 years now.

bro, neverwinter is not a more modern ddo. Neverwinter has so few spells, feats and subclasses, classes and races... it's honestly a bit shameful Yeah, ddo is old, and that's why it's frustrating. Nothing newer comes even close, that's the issue. I am playing neverwinter now with a friend and it's basically "turn brain off and hit stuff". Ddo ain't like that. Ddo made me sweat. Ddo made me fear for my life. However, it is dated and sort of empty...
