Yes the seating and driving position was good. One thing I didn’t mention due to time restraints was the ride. Because of the 20” wheels on the R Line it’s a little form and noisy. So deffo try out the Elegance if that’s a factor 👍🏼

Oh great, thanks for the review! The R-design TiguanA in this colour is the exact one I'd pick, too. I was very excited when I saw this unveiled months ago, although they chose some dull colour combos for the official press photos.. Anyways, 100% agreed on the engine choices - the plug-in hybrid would be the one for me, too. The thing is, though, when I go onto VW's German website (as they already sell the plug-in hybrid there), the final price is soooo high! In my currency, it's around 1.8 mil CZK, whereas an X5 50e with 20-30k on the odo can be had for 2.4ish. Compared to the new GLC, yeah, you save some money (like 8k EUR-ish) when comparing the hybrids, but the tech and feel inside the cabin in a Merc cannot be compared to this. And again, I like the TiguanA. Maybe in half a year or so, it will be a better buy as there will be more cars used by the dealers, and the price will drop. Right now, I don't think the value is there for the higher trim specs. The entry-level model - sure, go for it if you're okay with owning a bit lazy car with no soul.

Hey David, thanks for watching and the info. I think in the UK it’s only a few months way so we will see, people want to save money by going hybrid but get stung with the price of the car sometimes. But the tech is still in infancy I guess… like you said. Second hand ones might prove to be popular!

I hope so! Just depends how they tackle the extra weight the batteries are likely to bring. Generally offset with smaller alloys and thicker tyres to manage the ride. We will seen thanks for watching dude :)

Great review thank you! you mention the shiny screen but the dash, did you find it caught your eye all the time with reflections? I much prefer the look of the tiguan but also considering the skoda kodiaq (5 seater) for slightly more room, both PHEV versions. I note that VW specs their PHEV's with DCC as standard but the skoda doesnt, would you say that DCC is worth it?

Hey Jess, thanks for watching :) - the screen on the dash (where you speedo is etc) actually had a slightly matted screen so the reflections and the glares is significantly reduced. Both screens were very high contrast screens which helps. Based on my knowledge from past PHEVs, Its probably a case of it NEEDING the DCC due to the additional weight it carries. To better handle the bends and the ride. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the video, really informative. Contemplating switching to one of these when the lease on my Touareg runs out later in the year, but worried it will feel a bit cheap by comparison (currently driving the Black Edition with 340 BHP). Also a bit worried by that (potentially overcomplicated) screen and the shifter stalk... What do you think?

Thanks David - you will naturally feel a difference going from what you have to this. Same if you came out of a E to a C Class or 5 series to a 3 etc. What i find is that what you lose in the bigger car you gain in other areas. Lighter, more nimble = fun factor and costs come down too… so it’s just a preference thing i guess.

Mercedes rides better… there isn’t much that rides better than a Mercedes IMO. But you pay for it… a GLC equivalent is +£50k… so…

Is it possible to get the 13-inch infotainment system on the R-Line instead of the 15-inch one? The 15-inch seems too large. 😒

I drove one today for a test and when we talk inside it feels like there is an echo voice, like we were talking in a microphone or something.. i wonder if it was the car or all gives the same feeling.. strange anyway. Did you notice something like that?

Good question! My heart would say VW and for that reason the Tiguan edges it. Very little in them as a car, however if the Austral was cheaper, I would take the Renault. They’re pretty much on par like for like (I’m being a bit of a badge snob if I’m honest!) I have reviewed the Austral if you want to check it out :)

@@GoksCarLounge thanks, my thoughts are the same. I have not tested Tiguan, just arrived to local dealer few days ago. I think advantages for Tiguan are dcc suspenson, engine options (big one), interior finish maybe...yes, I saw the vidio and that is why I asked 🙂 4control means a lot since I am in city centre and my garage is really tight to maneuvr. Maybe only reason to consider Austral for me PS Raffale is around the corner also...

I preffer straight petrol or diesel its more reliable and i wouldnt be suprised if it would make rattling noise when battery charging or having to stop on several services for a charge its a hussle The rest of the intwrior looks ok

By the way, your idea with the start-stop switch/volume switch is not too well thought about. What will you do when you want to turn off the engine? Turn the volume all the way down and hope that it will turn into a start-stop switch?

Once you put the gear back into Park, the button can turn from the volume switch back to the engine switch at which point you press it down and it switches the engine off but yes, you are right I didn’t take hours thinking about it. It was off the cuff comment. Thanks for watching.

Has any current Tiguan owners had issues with sunroof leaks or auto gearbox failures? Been looking at getting a Tiguan this year but these two common faults are putting me off a bit...

If you're afraid of leaks don't get a sunroof. Then you can cross that phobia off your list. I've had two VW with sunroofs and neither leaked. Leaks generally occur from clogged drains where people park under trees and the shading tree branches and leaves clog the drain holes. Just like gutter on your house they need to be cleaned periodically or they will rust, decay and fall apart much sooner than they would otherwise. That's the fault of the owner, not the product or design, or installer.

The interior looks briliant the feont end is ruined comparing to the older version looks better and aggressive also 1.5 engine for a big car isnt just reliable but is a fuel spender The interior round knob isnt that supposed to be dangerous and distruction when driving when having to use it

The car is a nice design and well equipped. Too bad VW have a reputation for being woefully under-powered and this new Tiguan is no exception. It comparable with its competition, but that's not enough to get any new buyers. If this is VWs best seller, they need to be throwing everything they've got after this car including the kitchen sink. For example, just look at how Hyundai is not pulling any punches with its performance "N" cars. They add it to everything they make. Since when did Hyundai surpass VW in performance? @13:10 I hate seats with integrated head rests. That's the worst trend ever in car manufacturing. They maybe comfortable for a commute but on an all-day cross country you will long for the ability to adjust the head rest. One size does not fit all. @14:15 The IMAX infotainment display is far too big, and should never rise higher than the dash. In fact, the standard 12.9" is still more than big enough and all you need. The backup camera should be high definition, and have an integrated washer. While I'm at it, all cameras (in every car) should include washer modules.

As hard as I try I prefer my Mk2 R Line Tech. The styling is bland and paying more 4 less does not motivate me change anytime soon. I will certainly not be paying £500 + 4 car tax. As things stand VW has lost a Tiguan customer.

Trilled about a Tiguan? Interested, maybe. Anyway, the competition in this category is huge; and other manufacturers aren't holding back. The RAV4 (Toyota's best seller) is being redesigned for 2025, and its release is liable to get all the attention and hold it for a very long time. This is not the time for cutting corners. In fact, just the opposite, you want to pull out all the stops. Sometimes those thing can be as simple as an armrest that can adjust or an extra degree or two of rear seat recline. Gone are the days of buyer being dazzled by piano black. With the price of new cars going through the roof these days, buyer want substance over shinny plastics.

@@GoksCarLounge The same platform doesn't mean the same car. Granted they both have things in common: Porsche vs Audi etc. But they also have items and part that are uniquely their own. Adding real buttons and switches for the HVAC system can make a huge difference, for example. I suspect you already know that.

Loved the video. It is probably just me but I found VWs soooo boring. There is absolutely nothing exciting about looking at one or driving them. Very safe design but boring. Maybe just me…
