Hi Guys!
In this video I take you, step by step through the painting process of a sweet realistic baby portrait. I go through all the different watercolour techniques I used in this sketchbook painting such as painting wet on wet, wet on dry, layering underpainting and glazing. I talk about painting skin tones, skin folds and facial features too so I hope you enjoy the tutorial and find it interesting or useful.

Really found this post by you extremely helpful. I am so impressed with your steady hand when painting fine lines. If only! All the techniques you showed either helped me realise what I needed to do for my baby painting or reminded me of what I already knew I should be doing; wet in wet and glazing for instance. Hi Sarah i tried this but the boy version it came out nicely thank you soooooo much. You are such a great teacher. N i want to give my painting to a friend of mine as a gift bt i like to keep a copy so can i know how do you get your original paintings into prints? Are you using watercolour papers for that? Do i need a special printer for that?

Hi Dilini! I'm so glad you found the video helpful 😊 To make prints, I first scan my artwork and then put it into photoshop to tidy it up (remove any accidental paint splashes and that kind of thing!). Then I save the image as a pdf file and sent it to an online printers. You can choose the paper type and quality. I used to get them printed locally but sadly, the shop closed down during the pandemic. If you want to print your own prints you will need a good printer and archival quality paper (Not watercolour paper). Hope that helps 😊

I can't draw persons. Honestly. Tried it. I think it would make et look pretty and send the men in black running for the hills,lol, I always get stuck on the scaling.

@@SarahNewburyArt I cheat. I have like the biggest lightpad you can imagine, my printer doesn't even fit that papersize so im currently stuck with a4 unless I want to tape the papers together :P I just don't like the carbon paper. And I know some concider it cheating;. The thing is, I think in pictures; but its like my brain is stuck with communicating that to my hand properly. Wich is like,the weirdest thing ever. And I somehow don't get why that is. Other than Frustrating. So to get that sorted I use the lightpad. Bc I know that that talent to draw is there; I just don't know how to tap into that. Yes practise. But after 5 years of daily practise, I was like, fuck this Im buying me a Lightpad,bc the frustration was bigger than the actual fun of the drawing. Thats not good either.
