Starting on your journey into graffiti and street art? Let me share three crucial tips that I wish I had known when I first dipped my toes into this world of graffiti . Its clear that having a good tag is important and to get a clean tag you need to keep it simple. From digital graffiti to traditional spray graffiti, your tag becomes a testament to your artistic identity and if you're adding too much style to a bad tag then progress and respect will be hard to attain. I wish i would have kept my graffiti simple and learned the basics sooner.
However, navigating the graffiti world requires more than just skill; it demands savvy. Whether you're creating trendy graffiti neon masterpieces that wow everyone, conduct yourself with respect and awareness. As you meet new people and catch spots with new people , remember that building connections in the graffiti and street art community requires caution and camaraderie. Dont be quick to trust anyone in graffiti and be careful where you go and who you go with.

That's why I don't see the point of painting with anybody outside of my crew anymore, most people are weird anyways.

Started taking my daughter to paint. We started out with crappy cans and chill spots. We now order our paints and plan our designs. Very good progress for both of us but it's fun as hell to share the experience with her. I also get to show her how to be very cautious and watchout for her.

I always figured that learning about graffiti the hard way was the best way, like a sort of test to overcome, you wanna learn? Then you gotta be smart and tough! Made me realize after a couple years i learned that lifestyle wasnt for me, but that i wanted to focus on the artform itself. I learmed alot about myself that way. BUT.. i also didnt have a mentor.. who knows what wouldve happened if i did

The lifestyle and the art are one in the same. Graff is competitive and direct. If you’re not build for it no matter how technically good you think you become you will always be a mark.

I'm so glad u mentioned "have fun" I think alot of writers who stop is cuz this one reason.. I've stayed home a million times becuz for what ever reason at that moment it just wasn't fun... by having this play a major factor in when and where and with who bombing took place its allowed the very act of bombing to remain something that over tye years was always something that didn't get old or dangerous... sometimes people don't realize that going all in for a full year or even 6months can burn u out completely and make a name to hott to leave room to enjoy what ur doing anymore. I've taken breaks where things like characters only or rollers only... litterly made things brand new again

I started Graffitti with one goal and one goal only. I saw a Hakenkreuz or Swastika or whatever the english name is in my City. My goal was to cover up this symbol because previous attempts from some guys to sticker bomb it didnt help. I don't realy care if the cover up looks bad or anything I know whats underneath it and every other thing looks better. If I improve maybe I come back and do a better piece

ive had the worst handwriting forever but i been grindin' pretty hard practicing basic ass letters. I only gaf about marker tags for now. You're right it is boring as fuck sometimes, every so often I'll go out tagging some out of the way chill spots with random ass names just to get a bit of practice on real walls and see how different markers look, and that has been keeping me going. My only problem is that I don't really think most handstyles look cool at all. It's hard to find inspiration or styles to try biting for practice because it's super rare that I find a tag that looks sick to me. I also find experimenting with paint/inks is kinda tough. New nibs/markers/inks take like a week to show up in the mail and every experiment is sort of a waste of money. There's ofc way more info online than there was BACK IN THE DAY, but for real I think having an experienced mentor would help me a shit ton. This shit really is work if you care about progressing, but so far it's worth it cuz it really does feel amazing to write. Thanks for the videos homie, they've def helped me a bit

Thanks for the video. I have one question: I’m practicing letters with a book and pencil, but maybe one day eventually I want to start with spray paint and the question is, do you practice a lot with the spray for years or you stay sharp keeping your self practicing with the book and pencil or both? Like practicing letters with spray and all that and how will be if you want to do it like every day practice?
@Theartistblock
@Theartistblock 2 ай бұрын
Ok so this is a bit of a straight forward answer that also has a deeper longer answer to explain it. let me start with the short so you can get the answer instantly, and if you're interested the long answer will follow. Short answer: Any medium, Pencil, oil paint, water color, or spray paint requires that you keep practicing that medium to stay sharp with it. However, artforms are not normally based on mediums, so if you study in the books and you learn graffiti, then that knowledge and skill is baked in you and you'll carry it into any medium you try even if you're new to the medium. Long answer: Mediums are separate from art forms, there's a topic called the 3 pillars of art, these are the 3 fundamental categories that create all art forms. the first is elements of art (line shape form value space color texture) and this is the most important. Elements of art will be responsible for most of your skill and knowledge in ALL art forms. The second pillar is the artform specific fundamentals, a list of basics that governs and often defines and art form. for graffiti that is letter structure, negative space management, letter name weight, letter name positioning and flow. This pillar, no matter the art form, will get you better but only to a certain point. The third pillar is technique, and this is how you use your tools and what tools you use as well as your process in general. This is the least determining factor of skill. that isn't to say you cant specialize in this and get masterful skill, you certainly can, just look at old master oil paintings. However, before this category really takes effect, the first two pillars need to be on point. once the first two are on point, then technique will begin to show it's benifites as you practice. For example, you can learn to blend all you want, but it if you don't know forms and how to shade, and you want to draw a ball, well blending isn't going to do you any good. So to answer your question, as you study in the books you're really only getting the artform specific fudnametnas, and line/shape. you need to make sure to study ALL 3 pillars of art ( I have video's on graffiti's fundamentals in a playlist for you) . If you can do that then you'll be fine.

@Theartistblock
@Theartistblock 10 ай бұрын
Each of the following INDIVIDUALLY have enough information to last you a lifetime meaning you'll never learn all there is to know about any of these and as a result there is always room to improve. These are the building blocks for all art, even graffiti. Line Shape Form Value Space Color Texture While these might seem simple, no artist, no matter how masterfully, is above studying and learning these Then you have graffitis fundamentals Letter structure Negative space management Letter name weight Letter name positioning Flow I have videos on each. Lastly you have to study whatever techniques apply to the medium you choose.

@Theartistblock
@Theartistblock 10 ай бұрын
@@goblingas420 not at all. #1 that playlist contains tutorials specifically for the fundamentals for graffiti, should be 6 videos (two letter structure ones then the rest are graffitis other basics. #2 those videos aren't meant to be copied or meant for you to bite. I'm teaching you the formula of the fundamental. If you learn the formula then you can apply that to any and all graffiti. The same way when you where in school and you learned basic addition, you learned the formula. Once you did then you can plug in any number and add it.

1 of 3 things is happening. #1 you're not keeping it simple and practicing the basics (this is the most likely one) #2 you're not taking in new credible fundamental information #3 you've recently learned a ton of info and your brain needs time to digest it. Double check that you're not adding too much style to your practice. Practice should not have style in it.

I'm hear to share information and teach you guys the science of how the artform functions, I'm not here to flex and artificially get up. Maybe spend less time online talking down to people and more time practicing. For someone who acts like you've got pro level work, most of your fundamentals are amature, and thats on a good day. You never “started” graffiti, you have no skin in the game. You’re an artist and a stylewriter, there’s a difference. It’s like saying you climbed Mount Everest and all you did was stand in front of it for a picture ( not making the comparison As though writing is any great feat, just that it’s something you’ve said you’ve done and speak like you’ve done when you haven’t). Real recognize real. That all being said, your videos are all chock full of useful information for somebody inspired to start writing, and I’m sure you get loads of appreciation for it. Just saying. If I wanted to train for something I’d rather my teacher didn’t SAY he was something he’s not, it makes them seem to lack credibility, not that it would necessarily impair their ability to teach the thing. I know you probably get flak for this all the time, and it probably rolls off your back, or maybe you try to prove you’ve got credibility by lying about your past, I think I remember you doing something like this in the past, my memory is hazy on it. Not saying you shouldn’t be making the content, it’s all great, just maybe humble yourself on whether you’re a graffiti artist or not.
@Theartistblock
@Theartistblock 9 ай бұрын
You wrote all of that to be wrong. Lol If I never started then howed I get arrested twice. If you don't like me or my content fine, but don't make yourself look stupid with long drawn out comments just to be so flat out wrong that you make flat earthers look smart.
