Most of your stylized work will only look sharp after dedicating yourself to very long repetitive practice, it becomes a meditation to allow the flow to go at it’s own pace, and all the sudden your style is killer

I'm a retired graffiti writer (I won't even call myself an artist) from NYC. My tag, and the tag of my mentor both earned national notoriety on the album cover of "Subterranean Jungle" by the Ramones, a 1980s Punk Rock band. Do a Google image search, check the back cover. Our tags are separate, but both in black. I absolutely Love what you are doing for the art form with your channel. You are a tremendous source of knowledge and inspiration to old school fools like me and a whole new generation of talented artists and writers alike. I'm reaching out to you because almost 30 years after I first started graffiti writing in 1984, my skill at making pieces has barely advanced. I have been in that "just for fun" crowd. At this point, I'm not interested in illegally doing graf anywhere. I'm just getting out of Federal Prison, and the idea of trying to outrun more police is not appealing. I want to make ART - both digitally and on canvas. That's where your training comes in. Are the books you're selling here physical books that can be shipped to me, or only PDF files for download? This old school Krylon addict would really prefer actual books to look at. Please let me know.

thank you for the kind words man i really appreciate that! The books onn the store are PDF only. I had some issues with publishing the physical copies, so we're still working that out but thats a process lol . The next series of books will be both PDF and physical for sure.

There is no enjoyement in having no progress. For me, the fun parts are learning and managing to do new things like skills and different effects for my pieces, while not making practice the only thing you have to do and that it is obligatory every day.

agreed, my brother and i (he's also an artist), we were talking about how much we enjoy learning and how that process is fuel for us to keep going and keep practicing.

Just wanted to let you know that I really needed this video. I was pretty burned out and forgot to have fun. When I changed my mindset to just have fun, I started to enjoy graffiti again. And I've just painted two pieces the last two weeks - last piece I did was in 2015. 😅

Dude it’s frustrating when for fun you try other styles and find out your really good at stuff you don’t care about and find it easy but don’t have the same affinity with that that you want to be good at and thrive with. Cheers for the great videos as always and btw can you get your books as physical books or only e downloads?

Yea it can be rough. Iv learned I find cartoons really hard even though they're one of my favorite things to draw. As for the books, right now they are only available as ebooks for digital download. I had some difficulty getting the last book made, but the next bundle I make will be written with a physical publication in mind. I'll do my best to make that one available in both digital and physical copies

@@Theartistblock what's goin on man I've always loved the art form messed around a lil bit when I was a kid nothing serious tho, I'm in my early 30s now an my daughter loves art so I'm getting serious about art with her as something for us to do together. I'm making an art wall out back where should we spend more time developing our skills in our books or with cans? Any input I would greatly appreciate it thanks and keep the content coming!

Well it's been months since I've done any art at all due to medical issues taking up all my focus and killing motivation but I would never decide to stop for good. It would be a waste of the skills I spent years practicing to gain and a waste of the potential to get a whole lot better.

I spent like 30-45 minutes on one letter last night. I was so unhappy with it over and over and just about the moment I was ready to call it quits I did one stroke that made it all click. Sometimes the road is rough but it can be so worth it.

I’ve always love anime/manga art and have wanted to get so good at that but it’s such a challenge for me. Graffiti has always been my favorite art medium and for some reason ever since I was a kid it just clicked. My work isn’t super great (that’s lack of practice) but I do seem to have the most fun with it out of all other art I have tried.

As a tattoo artist practice is a MUST, for me atleast. Like you said if you don’t enjoy it or get something out of it, it’s just not for you, try something different BUT DO NOT GIVE UP!!! I’ve met a lot of tattoo artist that are some bad freakin ass s and they can not draw for shiiiiiiiiyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaatt, can’t use an iPad, barely know how to send a pic to a laptop to print it and even then it’s an issue at times 😂 so yea practice is a MUST. In our industry atleast. Some don’t even need it, go out on a 2k vacay come bakk n it’s like they never left 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ I guess everyone’s diff idk just sharing, sorry so long 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 shout-out to ALL my true vandals, wuz crakkin GRIM3 🤘🏽🤘🏽

lol isnt that wild, there are plenty who suffer from the dunning kruger effect and dont even know it and others are crazy gifted and many of those also dont realize it. I had a friend who as a kid he could draw better than many pro artists, but he had no idea and had crazy self doubt. he was offered a job at sony, and told he can have a job doing comics for marvel, turned both down because he didnt think he was good enough

i dont know how to practice now dont tell me hey keep it simple ive been doing that for months still do but i dont do it non stop like i did for a few months i do other stuff to but everyone says oh just do simple ass letters when i have for 5 months and still do is there any other way to practice a style idc if im not "ready" for style how do i practice or how would i learn how to do style if its not possible do not reply to this edit: and i dont want to be very good i just want to be decent i want to be good enough to where people will at least tell me its decent and maybe say i could improve but its not to bad or something im not looking to master it im just looking to have decent work and then have fun another edit: and dont talk shit saying well you have only been doing it for 5 months i know that im not expecting to be decent already but i would like to be making more progress than i already have ive tried the stuff and still do the stuff people have said but what is something that not in the air what is something thats not told as much that can help thats what im looking for

You will never make progress in a time span as short as 5 months. Keeping it simple is the best way to practice, and until you understand why, you aren't ready to move on. If you continue to rush your own progress, you will end up being unable to recognize your own mistakes. Take your time. Keep practicing. There are no short cuts or tricks to this. Only practice and dedication.
@Theartistblock
@Theartistblock Жыл бұрын
Contact me on Instagram let me know its you. Also, 5 months us literally not enough time to make much of any progress at all. Like the previous comment said, you need to be patient, you're expecting too much too soon. absolutely no artist is capable of style for at least 3 to 5 years, and when I say style I dont mean copying because that's what 99% of graffiti artists do. I mean 3 to 5 years before they know the basics enough to generate a style of their own. 5 months isn't a quarter of that time.
