The guys are all enacting their worst fears in this video which is a pretty rad concept, I think. Both Jim and Corey seem to be afraid of exploding.

The Concept is them killing their old selves and their new drummer and bass player and coming back with new masks and new members.

I imagine a creative meeting went something like this: Clown - "So, boys, what do you reckon is the worst way to die?" Sid - "Self cannibalism" Mick - "By peeling your own skin and flesh off." Jim and Corey in unison - "Being blown up." Chris - "Pecked to death by birds" Craig - "Your own dog attacking you." Someone - "Hanging.", "Set on fire." Clown - "Sounds good. That's what we'll do for the video. Oh, V-man and Jay, multiple stabbings for you guys. Welcome to the band." ** everyone sips coffee **

The idea of the video was, saying goodbye to your past self. The death scences were the memebers saying goodbye to their past-sleves and birthing a new version of themselves.

Great video Charis! For your next deep dive, I would recommend Sabaton. They are a Swedish power metal band that writes a lot of songs about historical wars/battles. For example, their last two albums have been about events in World War 1

I believe I saw a comment saying that every member in the video died in a way that was acting out their worst fear/facet of themselves so here is what they were in case you’re curious, in order of appearance. (Note: All this info comes from the BTS video where they explain each death but they don’t go over every one of them so for those I’ll put “unconfirmed” and put my best assumption.) Sid: Afraid of losing his hands/fingers because that’s what he needs to be efficient at his job as a DJ. Mick: A reserved a man who often keeps away from others is scratching away at his “surface” to reveal another layer of himself. Jay/Alex: Two new members of Slipknot after the passing of Paul and departure of Joey are seen in wheel chairs and getting stabbed by all the other members as a sort of initiation into Slipknot. Corey: Most lead singers are seen as the most popular of the group and with that get a large ego or “blown up/big head” here we see Corey literally blowing up his head and along with that his big ego. Also we specifically see him blowing up his All Hope Is Gone mask, which is the mask from the previous album as to say he’s killing his old self and staring anew. Craig: Mauled by a dog because he Is afraid of them (unconfirmed) Chris: Pecked to death by crows because he is afraid of them. Fun fact that was actually Chris in there and he was very scared to do the shoot but had to stay still for it and managed to get it done. Jim: Also unconfirmed but I assume it’s similar to Corey since he is the lead guitarist and those are also seen as very popular in the group. Shawn: Goes out in the most insane way possible he could find fitting for “The Clown”, lighting yourself on fire and then hanging yourself.

as a fellow theatre nerd, I think you'd like Ice Nine Kills. they're very theatrical especially in their three latest albums (Every trick in the Book, Silver Scream, Silver Scream 2; Welcome to Horrorwood). If you know any horror movies or dark stories, they probably did a song about them.

Would recommend Enter Shikari, the pioneers of electronic metal but have since said that they don't want to classed as metal. They recently released a song called The Void Stares Back which features Wargasm and Rou is one of the most intelligent writers in music I can think of. Every song has a deep meaning to it.

Charis That drummer is Jay Weinberg. He replaced Slipknot's original drummer, Joey Jordison. Joey died back in 2021 from an illness. Jay's father, Max Weinberg is the drummer for Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band. Jay stepped in for father to play drums for Bruce back in 2009.

You should react too his other band Stone Sour either the song Through Glass or Bother other good songs were he really sings are Tired , Miricals, Hesitate, Made Of Scars , just to name a few it's his side project band so he does Slipknot and Stone Sour but in Stone Sour he doesn't wear a mask nor does he scream Stone Sour is a lot deeper and more meaningful but I highly recommend you checking them out if your a fan of Slipknot.
