Cheap optical cables work just as well as expensive ones in terms of sound quality. There is no measurable difference. The light is either on or off. That's it.

You don’t need the remote to select the source, the volume button is also used to select the source simple by pressing on it…. Maybe try reading the instructions ….😂

I have a pair of A80, like you i spent 15 mins changing the remote battery. I enjoy the speakers when they are one arm length away, very good vocal voice. Once they were put further than 3 meters away the power fades away. Try turning up the treble up a bit to your taste and yoe in the important

Just a thought but couldn't the problem be the internal dac? When you plug stuff via RCA it sounds better. You could try an external dac and see what it does. I still have a pair of Edifier S1000 feeding them with a Zen or a Topping D10 improves them noticeably.

The Triangle optical input is mounted flush with the back plate so any cable can fit properly. The problem on these speakers is the optical input is recessed into a rectangular opening on the back plate that prevents some cables from mounting all the way home. Engineering oversight by someone with no familiarity with the cable changing proclivities of audiophiles. I noticed that the inputs and outputs on the back of my Bluisound Node are similarly recessed in a needlessly small rebate, and while so far I have been able to fit cables, it's an annoyance, particularly with some of the outlandish RCA plug covers on some cables.

One issue I have with the Airpulses is the lack of a front panel. I don't want my expensive speakers' drivers exposed, especially those fragile ribbon tweeters.

Nice touch on remembering the man originally known Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou. Soil Festivities is my go to album anytime I’m in the mood for some of his self taught muse. Apart from anything else it’s a sonic stunner.

They were designed by magician Phil Jones. I have used for many years an old project of P.Jones, the Planinum Audio Solo (with mods in the crossover). They're very special. Very curious with this model of Airpulse.

Optical plug looks a bit to recess, if it was level with the case it would be fine I think, slight design error. Nice looking speakers shame about the ribbon tweeters not performing as you would expect.

Your conclusions are interesting. I have the A100 in my toy system (my mains are the Dali Menuet SE and a 30yr old Proac Response 1S) and I have to say the A100 surprised me with the midrange / high smoothness and sweetness. The soundstage is not as wide as the Menuet SE, vocals and instruments are more focused (and less separated) in the center but honestly I find it just as enjoyable as the Menuet SE. The A100 did not embarass itself vs speakers costing 3x as much and the A80 has the same tweeter.

If you were to compare Triangle Elara and Q Acoustics 3020i? Here in Sweden Q Acoustics M20 and the Triangle are very close in prize.

I wouldn't, Mattias - one is a powered speaker, the other is a passive. Chalk and cheese and all that :) So it would depend on your priorities in terms of the facilities and features you need from each design type.

@@TheAudiophileMan M20 is basically the powered 3020i, so l thought it would be feasible to ask since you've had both at your desk, but alas. Thanks anyway.

@@mattiasjansson733 Oh, the M20 - my fault for not moving my eyes down...to...the...second...line, eh? Must remember, do not read comments in a rush :) In short, I don't know yet. I have requested the M20s so can hopefully be a bit more knowledgeable about the whole thing soon.

Aesthetically, they look good. Although I generally don't like listening to music on near-fields or bookshelves'... unless the room is very small. They tend to be a bit directional otherwise, especially with ribbons but, I do enjoy larger ribbons when implemented right. Electrostats are my favs for sure. Of course, they are more expensive but, your speakers should be the #1 priority in your system. If you have some money to spend, I recommend buying a good speaker selector and a few different pairs of speakers. It's really the only way to dial in your system with speakers that work best for your room and taste.

I own edefiers and the remote control battery door is not that difficult. I put my battery in in a matter of seconds. I don’t understand how you have that much trouble with it that you have to go have a cuppa coffee and come back to it 😅😅😅.

I too own Edifiers although I'm pretty sure that I was referring to the remote included within the A80 powered speakers package from Airpulse, the speakers starring in this particular video, that were the subject of my remote control battery ire.

Hi Paul A more than fair appraisal all things considered , surprisingly I do find myself thinking if it’s done well as in the LS50s wireless speakers it can definitely have a lot going for it . Which does say a lot of how cheap can you realistically go from the LS50s before you run into difficulty’s . As for the inclusion of a ribbon tweeter , that does seem to represent a recent trend in hifi that can stimulate peoples interest . But I think both you and I know to achieve the right results from such a component, is by any stretch of the imagination no simple task . In such situations I’m reminded of the late Jim Bowen on his TV game show when he would say to the disappointed contestants. ( just think what you could have won ). So Paul on a score of one to ten how is my comment doing 🤣. Best wishes as always 😀👍👍👍
