I didn't know Garwood produced rear-loaders with this type of compactor. When I was a kid, Garwood trucks had a blade that would spin 360°, and then another compactor would push the trash into the truck.

the ones you are talking about were built by GarWood USA. That company build the trucks you described over two decades but they went bust in the late 1970s and the rights for their trucks (mainly the Garwood LP-900 and their FL) were sold to Heil in the US and Edelhoff in Europe/Germany. The truck in this video is made by a Aussie company which are also called Garwood but have no affiliation with the American Garwood of the 1940s-1970s. Quite confusing lol

Excellent video with some great munch and crunch. I think the sofa at the end probably had the truck packed out and off to the tip.

Is scrap metal colleting not a thing over there? All that metal would be long gone before the crew turned up here in the UK as there's people trawling the streets day and night looking for metal. The dodgy ones will even steal your garden furniture if given half a chance.
