I’m a bit of an expert at mixing lava and water. Here’s a tip: if you add lava directly to a water source, you get obsidian. If you pour lava near the water so it pours over the top, the water turns to stone, but if it’s flowing water instead of a water source, it’ll turn into cobblestone.

Most objects would need to be hotter than 5500°c or 9932°f to emit UV rays. That’s typically the radiation peak of visible light. (Of course its different given the compound that’s being heated)

wow... the coe of that sodium glass plate actually held up a lot better than I imagined... when you hit the plate in the center the entire plate started expanding like crazy... The edge of the glass plate was still cold, which was actually acting like a retention band around the plate - which was expanding from the center. When you over lapped the lava on to the edge of the plate in to get it on the aluminum, the glass was able to expand enough on one side of the plate, breaking the cool ring, and that caused it to shatter, which is why it blew outward the way it did. (If you did that on purpose for camera effect - BRAVO!) If you bring the glass plate up to about 800-1100 degrees first and then place the lava on there, the glass will have a much better chance to hold it. (Also if you use a borosilicate glass)

I looked into the UV question you asked at 8:53. Short answer: You can do it, but probably not with your current crucible. Long answer: Light-skinned people will definitely burn within about half an hour at a UV index of 10, and the UV index is measured in units of 25 mW/m^2 (weighted by the relevant frequencies for sunburn). Simplifying the lava as a blackbody radiation source, and assuming you're 2m away from the source, area 0.01 m^2, for a total of ten minutes over the course of one of these experiments, the source would need to emit (UV 10 = 250 mW/m^2 * 10 mins/30 mins = 750 mW/m^2 * 50.27 m^2 for the 2m sphere's surface area = 37.7W of power at relevant frequencies / 0.01m^2 emitting area =) 3770 W/m^2 of emitting area. The solar spectrum peaks around 310nm wavelength, so we'll look at the 300-320nm range. That equates to a temperature of 3126 Kelvin, which is about 2850 Celsius or 5200 Fahrenheit. That's substantially hotter than any common materials can withstand(it's almost exactly the *boiling* point of iron), but it's doable if you use something like tungsten as your vessel. However, we're not done. Remember how I said the spectrum was weighted? That makes a heck of a difference - because of the sun's temperature and atmospheric absorption, the sun's spectrum biases towards longer, less damaging wavelengths. But the higher wavelengths are far more damaging - at a glance, by a factor of about 200. Any given source will produce fewer high-energy UV rays(our hypothetical boiling-iron source above produces about half as many in the 280-300nm range), but the damage done is far higher, so they dominate for most purposes. If we divide the necessary power by 200 and assume anything 300nm or more energetic will work, then we only need a source at about 2380 K(=2110 Celsius or 3820 Fahrenheit). That's still too hot for iron, but it's getting much more practical - it's only a little bit hotter than the theoretical temperature cap for an air-fed propane crucible, and well within plausible ranges if you use a tank of oxygen with your propane. Note that even with all of the calculations above, this is still *very* approximate. For UV radiation in the range [100nm - 10nm] (least to most extreme), if this were to be the peak intensity of the object's spectrum (i.e. the most common light emitted), the object would need to be between ~29,000 - 290,000 K. An object would begin emitting UV radiation at much, much lower temperatures of course, but if you wanted it to emit MOSTLY UV, you'd have to get it up to these spectacularly high temperatures.
