We recently stopped by GWAR's Slave Pit in Richmond, Virginia to talk with original bass player and current lead singer, Michael Bishop, about the Steak Bass. Mike talks about why he needed the Steinberger, which GWAR Albums it was featured on, and how it came to be the famous Steak Bass.

This guy seems really down to earth. I used to work in Hampton at Wallace's Marina as a teen 30 plus years ago for this guy Kelly Place who was from Richmond. Kelly was good friends with the guys from Gwar. I remember Kelly telling me that he had some friends coming to visit and that they were members of Gwar. He asked did i know who the band was which i did and had listened to a few times. He said that they were going out on the boat and asked if i wanted to come along. I was like hell yeah! Really cool guys!

Wow! He says it plays like a shorty but the strap peg is at like the 15th fret; bizarre! But Steinbergers DO play a little "different" in general. Hilarious that he just plain called Roman 'sketchy' too.

The headless design is actually better for the sound most people assume the large headstock will "balance" the sustain but large headstocks just kill it
