The Beatles performing "Don't Let Me Down.”
Written by John as an expression of his love for Yoko Ono, the song is heartfelt and passionate. As John told Rolling Stone magazine in 1970, “When it gets down to it, when you’re drowning, you don’t say, ‘I would be incredibly pleased if someone would have the foresight to notice me drowning and come and help me,’ you just scream.”
During filming on the roof of Apple, two days after the recording of the track, the band played ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ right after doing two versions of 'Get Back’ and it led straight into 'I’ve Got A Feeling’. Michael Lindsay-Hogg was once again directing a Beatles’ shoot. He and Paul met regularly at the tail end of 1968, while Hogg was directing The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, to discuss the filming of The Beatles’ session in January. By the time that fateful Thursday came around, the penultimate day of January would be the last time The Beatles ever played together in front of any kind of audience.
This is not the version of ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ heard on the single but the version from the Let It Be… Naked album - a composite of both versions that were performed on the roof of Apple in Savile Row

This video kills me. They all knew it was over by then. Yet. The looks they gave each other. The happiness. The joy of making music one last time even though it was the end. It's one of the most profound pure emotional segments in history that, I don't know how to word it. It kills me. Love it!!!

@marcuspi999
@marcuspi999 7 жыл бұрын
+Nicole Barret It was their last performance. They hadn't been on tour since 1966. They were a studio band by then and didn't play concerts. It's obvious that this made them feel good again because it was just them up there playing music together like it used to be. No egos fighting for their creative input. But as far as the breakup later that year every member has said that they pretty much knew it was over. There were constant fights between John and Paul. John knew for sure. He's the one that broke and announced he was quitting. Just one of those things.

@marcuspi999
@marcuspi999 7 жыл бұрын
+Nicole Barrett I think they all stayed friends. It was really more like sibling rivalry. It was mainly John and Paul. George and Ringo kind of just said that they were just sick of John and Paul fighting. Also, they were pretty lost when Brian Epstein died of a drug overdose. John was always the leader of the band, but ever since Sgt. Pepper, Paul started taking the reins quite a bit more. You know, just tensions between strong willed creative geniuses. Of course, don't forget Yoko. They were like 4 brothers and then all of a sudden John starts bringing this weird woman to their writing and performing sessions who wasn't shy about giving her opinions about their actual creative process. I can't even imagine how awful that must have been for the other three, especially Paul. What a complete nightmare. So, yeah. Quite sad. So for all of that, it's why people watch this little roof top concert with such reverence. By the way, you're British, aren't you?

In the beginning of 2023 i broke up with my toxic ex at the time, and i fell in the strongest depression of my life, i started to smoke blunts more then ever, everyday i did nothing just stayed home killing my time away in pain, feeling down and broken i was at my lowest, i wanted someone i wanted something to help and then, one day this song comes on my Spotify, and when i tell you that exact moment he starts to sing i got the strongest waves of forgiveness, as if this song was telling me to not let myself down more then i am, it felt like something had finally showed up to get me out of my misery, i spent days after listening on repeat, then i had this realization, i think John here is talking to himself, implying that love hurts being vulnerable and expecting to meet someone you can finally be open to is an act of bravery, because it hurts when it hurts, and its like john saying to himself, i had my loves i had my pain but i finally found someone i love like she does, Just please Don't let me down...

Being a young person I feel so incredibly blessed to be able to find and bathe in appreciation for music like and by them. Can’t stop watching this, not sure if it’s my obsession with avoiding today’s day and age or if it’s truly my kind of sound. Either way I cannot stop listening to them. Also not sure if them being the majority of my music is not being diverse/ obsessed or a genuine reaction from me to gravitate towards sounds like this due to the healing I believe it has on a soul and multiple different variations. However this group makes me envy being alive during this era. Long live the beatles, peace and love❤️

I am absolutely devastated and blown away... All because of you... And you will know for sure... That I love you... I feel like I am in a sublime divine spiritual realm and God has accepted me in paradise... and I get to spend my remaining days with John Lennon and George Harrison... I have finally achieved redemption and nirvana... they sang their hearts and souls out... my soul is cleansed, my heart broken and my scale of fulfillment and satisfaction goes beyond the clouds... beyond unfathomable heights... One peculiar day in the heart of New York City, John Lennon found himself strolling through Central Park when he noticed a strikingly familiar face. To his amazement, he encountered someone who not only looked exactly like him but also shared the same name - John Lennon. Intrigued and amused, the two Johns exchanged puzzled glances before breaking into laughter at the uncanny resemblance. They decided to grab a coffee and chat, discovering they had eerily similar tastes in music, art, and even fashion. The chance meeting sparked an unexpected friendship between the original John Lennon and his doppelganger. As they explored the city together, the two Johns navigated the streets with amused onlookers, who couldn't believe their eyes. The duo even played a prank on some fans, pretending that they were a reunited Lennon in disguise. The spontaneous encounter turned into a surreal adventure, blending reality and a touch of the absurd, leaving both Johns with a tale to tell and a friendship that transcended the boundaries of ordinary coincidences.

@@dan_hitchman007 I think if the group had agreed to take some time off, disband for a couple of years and then regroup, things would have gone down differently. But the influence of Allen Klein on John, for e.g., plus heroin addiction - culminating in John's rash "I want a divorce" declaration wound up in Paul essentially calling his bluff and agreeing to end the band, when it seems fairly clear now John was very up and down during that time and even seemed to feel remorse just days after asking for the divorce. The podcast "Another Kind of Mind" is a fantastic listen if anyone's interested in looking at the breakup from a different angle to how the narrative is usually portrayed.

It must be really strange to be someone like Paul McCartney, and to look back at your life and see the enormous influence you have had on the world when you started out as a twenty something who just wanted to be a successful musician and do what you loved for a living.

@@lecutter9382 While the rolling stones got massive inspiration from The Beatles, it doesn't mean they're a 4. The rolling stones are a definite 8, The Beatles at a 10.
