Chuck D presents the Beastie Boys with the Video Vanguard award at the 1998 VMAs. watch it and think about it!
btw: amzn.to/2glkKCP
"It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam 'MCA' Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer," reads an official statement from the Beastie Boys. Being middle eastern and in high school at the time I recorded this because I am a huge beastie fan. I remember the feeling of solidarity I felt as a young teen. MCA was far ahead of his time and truly beautiful human being. So much gratitude 💛

I thought it was forced. Like by the look ad rock gave him walking up was like a goat being led to its slaughter. Like they were all being forced by some sort of industrial deamon. And besides that it's quite prophetic that 3 years before 9/11 he said the countries from that area wore gonna retaliate.

Ian McIntosh We’ll never know man but I would like to think that Chuck D knows how far The Beastie Boys pushed an former underground movement to a wider audience that bands like Public Enemy couldn’t have done, not because of their musical talent, but because Hip Hop crews like P.E were too hardcore and militant and not as accessible to a white audience, and Chuck D knows and respects this. In my opinion. Peace and Love

@@mcintosh1346 Read the Beastie book or listen to the audio version, Chuck respects these cats 100 and rightfully so. Don't get an intro like he gave to his chapter on the audio book while being led to corporate slaughter...

Brandon you are exactly the type of person he was trying to speak to. He is not referring to anything remotely tied to Iraq. At that time President Clinton had sent cruise missiles into Afghanistan and Sudan to strike al-Qaeda training bases and a supposed chemical weapons plant. I'm sure you're aware of 9/11 which occurred three years after this, the retaliation MCA was warning us about. Saddam was a real POS however he suppressed militants, notice how you never heard of ISIS until AFTER he was removed. The Iraq war had absolutely nothing to do with terrorism. Also Saddam hadn't just started to fuck stuff up, he had always been a brutal dictator.. and yes we enabled him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Infinite_Reach

He says: "I love you mom. I love you Dave Scilken." Dave was a member of Adrocks first band, The Young And The Useless. He died of heroin overdoes May 26, 1991 not long after getting out of rehab. He was a good friend of the band and was often referred to as 'the fourth beastie' as he was often with the band on tour. He was the 'trim coordinator' (he helped filter out the lame annoying groupies and got the cool girls backstage).

It doesn't matter what anyones opinion of his remarkable speech is, the fact that he had the decency and courage to stand up for what HE 'no doubt' believed in and humanity is nothing short of amazing. RIP in 2018.

strange seeing a look back on "old-school" hip-hop in a KZfaq video that's 22 years old! Honestly, a lot hasn't changed since 1998.
