Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, we have family visiting for Christmas and get into the holiday spirit! We continue clearing the chateau property and visit Paris for the Christmas markets!
Our "beau chateau" (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!
As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!

I have also cut down bushes and small trees like you and was happy about the result but a few years later they were all back again.......... So now we get help from a farmer who comes with a tractor to dig up the roots.

Oh my goodness, such a beautiful video. I’m pleased you are posting more often, thank you. Merry Christmas and wishing you the best of 2023. Looking forward to seeing your next post. We have had an unusual weather event here in the states with below normal temps. In the northern states it’s a disaster with 25 deaths due to freezing temps and loss of power and some stranded in cars. Here in north Georgia our lows have been in the single digits which doesn’t happen. Some water issues due to frozen pipes, luckily I was spared of any trouble. Hopefully you all are warm in the chateau and enjoying your sweet family.

Hint for removing ivy : take your loppers, seceteurs or sharp implement and go around the bottom of the walls and cut as close to the ground as possible. Then wait. When the ivy had died and dried off, it's easy to pull off and burn. Spray the roots with herbicide to kill it off for good. Nothing good ever comes from growing ivy. Merry Christmas xx

Avoid any chemicals. Not necessary. Ivy is excellent for pollinators, flowering in late autumn. So please allow it to grow where it won't damage buildings. Up trees, or as ground cover, for example.

If you burn the ivy...make sure it doesn't havevany poison ivy in it...when burning do not inhale the smoke..my husband did and became very sick from the fumes off the poison ivy..

Let it dry out on powdery damaged walls you will cause very little damage when you pull it down as it has released its grip by then ,ivy is a good plant for nature ,bees,hibernating insects and flower arrangers but not masonry and roofs where massive damage will be caused by it's expanding growth.

Sooooo satisfying to see the enchanted castle emerge from the wood. Clearing away the ivy and brush is a great project, Ian. It opens up new vistas, windows emerge from the ivy, architectural elements appear - just great.

Masons are actually finishing to rebuild the collapsed vaulted cellings. All little Chapels are already renovated. The big organ is a work in progress.

It is so good to see the ivy off. Here in the Pacific Northwest it is a serious invasive plant,. I have pulled acres of the stuff from trees and the ground.

Oh my, I have a dwarf rabbit that's mostly fur. I think I'll collect his fur and learn how to felt. Thanks for the wonder idea! I always said I could make a whole new rabbit out of it.

Go for it! We were able to dye the fur as well, so check online for more ideas with the fur ☺️
