First of all, it's about the spirit of the people & how they feel about the flag, but also it is not 'totally made up'! Some of the facts are off, and he acknowledges that, but more along the lines of leaving out the US victory and the minimal loss of life at the fort - and the reason key remained on the ship. From wiki, "Around 1,500 to 1,800 bomb shells and over 700 rockets were fired at the fort but with minimal casualties and damage being done. Four men died and 24 were wounded in the fort. The ships were forced to fire from their maximum range (with minimal accuracy) to stay out of range of the fort's formidable cannon fire. Key was inspired by the U.S. victory and the sight of the large U.S. flag flying triumphantly above the fort. " Look it up for yourself.

Because the person who made the video made it all up. With a sprinkling of half truths. Key was there to negotiate only for his dr friend’s release not the troops. He was not on the British ship during the fighting. The flag was not held up by bodies. He was held on his own ship until fighting was over because he knew too much about their ship strength. He wrote a poem which was torn apart by someone else and set to a song from a hymn.

@@gesica8680 What a bunch of Malarkey - you're yet another person who doesn't know history. Slaves, early on, were criminals, who were sold by their own people because their actions made them undesirable to the community. Later on, slaves were still sold by people of the same skin color, but they were sold by neighboring tribes, who would raid villages, capture people, keep their goods, and sell the captives to slavers. Now here is where it gets interesting. Many slaves did die on their feet, rather than live on their knees. Others endured slavery for a time, only to escape to freedom later on, or (in some cases) to earn their freedom. Early in American history, one young "black" (none of us are truly black or white, or yellow or red) man became a Christian, converted his master to Christianity, and bought both his and his brother's freedom. He later founded one of the earliest churches in post-Revolutionary war, pre-Civil war, America, and at least one of its members was a Founding Father, Benjamin Rush, if I correctly recall. Further, all of the Founding Fathers recognized that slavery was incompatible with the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Washington not only freed his slaves, but directed that his estate be used to provide a starting point for their freed existence (similar to laws in the Bible directing a master to provide for a freed servant). He may also have been the Founding Father who wrote that it is not right to enslave men, but once you have slaves it is not right to free them UNTIL you can also provide, with their freedom, resources for them to ensure their own well-being and success (paraphrased, I don't remember the exact quote). One of the Founding Fathers not only freed his slaves on his deathbed, but held a local white doctor prisoner on the day he was dying, in order to ensure that no man could say that he changed his mind on his deathbed about freeing his slaves. Very few Americans, even in the South, owned slaves, and there were black Americans who owned slaves or held office prior to the Civil war.

I didn’t see this until evening news shows started to air, but on the afternoon of September 11, 2001, we did exactly that. We weren’t fighting against an enemy, but so many of us were lined up outside of blood donation centers, patiently waiting to do what we could. Friends were made in those lines, as people of Oklahoma City (my residence then), who had never known one another accepted one another, though of differing outward colors and hues, because we shared our blood color, and a common county. Being unable to move our blood to those injured, we fully expected the blood collectors to find where it was needed and transport it to the right place. None of us were hyphenated-Americans that day. We were family.

Part of the War of 1812. I love this story. During the War of 1812 - 1814, the British soldiers attacked the White House right after President Madison and his wife Dolley got wind they were coming. Dolley grabbed the silver, the Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington, and a copy of the Declaration of Independence and they fled the scene. When the soldiers got there they found the meal that had been spread out for those who had fled, so they polished off the meal and set about destroying Washington DC by setting fires in government buildings. A good blaze was eating up the city when a large, very dark storm that lasted for two hours came up, and it is believed a tornado touched down right in the center of the conflagration and all the rain put out the fires. The storms on the east coast were not like the more gentle storms of England, so the soldiers were quite frightened and vacated the city. The British Admiral leading the troops away told a lady that God was destroying Washington DC and she replied, "No, He is saving it!" What a great intervention by God. He saved the USA then and He will save the country again! Hold the line for God and Country.

You never fully understand the love and respect we have for our flag until it’s draped over the coffin of a fallen Soldier, Airman, Sailor, or Marine. Having to bury someone I love and watching his Mother and Father hugging the flag they took off of his coffin as if it were him was heartbreaking and humbling. There has never been a time where I hear my National Anthem and I don’t get goosebumps or cry. We are a proud Nation…and always will be. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

i was a C-130 crewman at an airshow in NC in the 70s. We were giving tours of our plane to the public. A little girl gave me one of those small flags on a stick. I put that flag in the ankle pocket of my flight suit and it flew with me for 24 years and several wars. It went to all 50 states and was over the crash site when KAL 007 was shot down in Russian waters. There was a picture in newsweek of us showing the flag to russian interceptors when they flew close. It went to Panama, Desert Storm , Bosnia, and several evacuations of Americans. I often think of that girl later on watching headline news and not knowing that flag was there. God bless that little girl it was my lucky charm.

My parents said to always remember this as freedom isn’t free and we needed to stay brave to continue to keep America a melting pot of free men (and woman). ❤ Thank you for sharing this, and yes, the American Flag is to NEVER tough the ground. Both my mom & dad were Marines. My parent’s flags are placed w my husband’s grandfather’s flag. He fought in the trenches in WWI. Dad was in Korea then later in Vietnam until he came back stateside to train new recruits & teach until he retired. Afterward, he went into the police academy. Even as an old man, he didn’t know how ‘not to serve.’ He became a volunteer firefighter as an old man. Despite placement of multiple stents, he worked his back into the firehouse. (his firehouse colleagues found him collapsed on the side of the road with his five dogs more than halfway through his daily 5-mile daily walk) It wasn’t until he was diagnosed w glaucoma that he couldn’t return. Dad passed away a few years later. I know men/women in other military branches are strong people, but it seems that Marines are built just a bit stronger. Although, I’m sure that I’m more than a bit biased. Mom was just as hardcore as Dad. ☺️

I can genuinely say everything I have today can be directly or indirectly tied to my time in the Marine Corps. Even my wife and kids wouldn't be here without it. And for all the same reason, I get just as embarrassingly patriotic when the Marine Corps Hymn plays as well. Too many guys get out and dwell on the negatives too much. It's interesting that so many countries still hold grudges against one another for what they did to each other in their history. But we never really hold the American revolution against the British and vice versa. I mean sure we still poke fun at one another like how siblings do and actually sure I do see instagram post from people from the UK posting "Happy Treason day" on the 4th of July. But that's as a joke. I'm quite good friends with those who do post things like that.

@@FryedCat0 Well it's because we're kind of so isolated form the rest of the world that we are seen as ignorant, and to be honest it's true. My own mother didn't know that half of Europe existed. Some of my friends are just terrible with their history and mistake the French flag with the Dutch flag. They wouldn't really be able to locate where the Czech Republic is. And from personal observation it's no joke that Americans think Scottish and Irish are the same. It's only to those who aren't though.

A lot of British people see it as odd that we fly flags everywhere here, and even scornfuly accuse us of 'worshipping' the flag. That is missing the point entirely. We don't 'worship' the flag, we cherish what the flag represents.

US Army Cold War Veteran here, I loved how after hearing the quote from General Washington “What sets the American Christian apart from all others is that he would rather die on his feet than live on his knees”, you said “that describes them perfectly”, and you are correct. We don’t want conflict, but we won’t shy away from it, you try and harm ours, we will destroy yours. We fight amongst ourselves in all our differences, but when threatened unite as one people wanting blood. The Flag to us represents the American Ideal, what we are supposed to be, not what we are, “That all men are created equal with the inalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness.”

@@honolulublues5548 Much of this story is basically fiction. The narrator in this video is a pastor hence the religious propaganda. In typical conservative fashion, they can't even get basic facts correct like the name of the fort, and it's not clear that who ever is telling this story understands the difference between the war of 1812 and the war for independence which occurred 35 years earlier. At the very least the narrator has probably never read the Treaty of Paris of 1783 otherwise he wouldn't have embellished the story in the way he did. A lot of quotes Americans lean on were never said, at least not by the person to which said quote was attributed.

@@jdanon203 I completely agree. I'm one of the few people I know that really read up on "the forgotten war". I only did because our history books in school either didn't cover it or only made mention of it. So many think the British wanted to conquer the US again and hold them subjugated like this preacher seems to think. It was more about recognition and sovereignty. Many believe Britain started the war and although they had a hand in the cause, it was started by the US - or at least their part in what was really a world war. You are correct about the treaty of Paris. That document almost makes it like a war that never happened. Nothing was really gained by the war (land, riches, etc) except for maybe a little respect to show the US was willing to go to war over it's sovereignty.

I'm not surprised that you disagree and called the other person a Communist because the push for Christian Nationalism was a reaction to anti-Communism starting in the Eisenhower administration. By the time McCarthy was doing his witch hunts claiming to be a "christian" whatever that means was almost a requirement for public office. That's despite the fact that Article VI Clause 3 of the actual US Constitution (but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.) The First Amendment's Freedom for State Sponsored Religion was demanded from the Virginia Baptists who didn't want to be made legally required to follow Pennsylvania Quaker or Massachusetts Puritan religious laws. Every sect of christian seems to think that they're "basically mainstream" so none of the things that they'd specifically want are really that much of an imposition on other "real Christians" but that isn't the truth now any more than it was then.

In canada, a woman getting assaulted for telling a man she's not interested is practically unheard of. America was never great. But, hopefully in the future that will change.

Thank you my fellow American! We truly come from all walks of life in our quest for equal freedoms and justice for all in the USA! United we can stand/kneel in respect for our flag, and every life that has and will protect it.

God Bless you, you are truly Americans! Too bad the rest don't feel like you. Some day if this country keeps going the way it is these traitors of all ages are going to be crying louder than the rest of us that tried to warn them.

Cuban American here. What ever little thing we can do to express appreciation and education for our Flag and Country - to educate those who our schools have not educated properly is important. So many people say they 'hope and wish' that America will come back but that won't work. We have to be vocal and show Patriotism and educate in any way we can. I don't want to die knowing America has been taken over by radicals who are making headway to tear it down.

Back when I was a kid TV stations didn't run all night and at the end of the days broadcast they would play The Star Spangled Banner and we always enjoyed it. My father taught us to respect and honor the flag and I always have. I wish more people would. I've seen that video before but enjoyed watching it again, thank you.

As an American, I wish we'd sing the fourth verse of Mr. Key's lyrics more often. "Oh thus may it ever, while free men shall stand, between their loved homes and the war's desolation Speak of victory and Peace. May the Heaven-rescued land praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause, it is just, and this be our motto: In God is our Trust. and the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave, o'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

Yes. I was about 18 the first time I heard the last verse. One of the most moving things I'd heard, before or in the decades since.

What about the third verse? The one about hunting and killing slaves? Or is that still going to be ignored like half this country's history?

@@kcbabThe 'slaves' were Americans forced to man British warships against their brothers, who chose to live on their knees rather than die on their feet. This was understood until this generation when some academic decided he could get more grant money by making folks hate each other.

I've said George Washington's quote to people more in the past 2 years than I have my entire life. I feel we will be defending our flag once again soon. As long as the devil rules the world there will be attacks on Christian nations.

Candy, my grandfather, my uncle, my cousin, my father and my brother served in the military, and I was literally raised on that quote. I was born on a military base and raised in the ARMY. I've always had a flag on my front porch, and so do most of my neighbors. Some have 12 foot flag poles with lights. It's a blessing to live in Texas! God bless you!

Washington NEVER said that. Ever. His own library and estate calls it a "spurious" quote, made up long after he was dead (like many of the other "famous" quotes from our first president). If you want to use those words, go ahead. Just don't pretend that they're Washington's, or any other founding father's.

@@ericblair6046 Yes your right. Just presidents told it to the ppl once tyrants started there squeeze for more government and less freedom. I'm quite sure many used it during the last 246 years. I like the way Roosevelt stated it in his speech.
