It really is true that we have a young history, but a RICH history! So much has happened here it's impossible to cover it all.

Regarding passports. Another reason a lot of Americans don't have passports is because until 9/11 a passport wasn't required to go to Mexico, Canada and some islands. So they've only been required since several years after 9/11. Another reason is pretty far and therefore rather expensive to get to countries in Europe/Asia/South America. I've had a passport since 1983.

Within a 4 hour driving radius of LV you could find yourself at Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, Sedona AZ, Monument Valley AZ, Zion NP, Bryce Canyon NP, Antelope Canyon AZ, a very scenic stretch of Route 66 from Flagstaff AZ to the California border, Death Valley NP, Joshua Tree NP, and I think Los Angeles and possibly also Sequoia NP.

There is so much to see and do in Oregon. The 101 on the coast, the coastal rainforests (lots of waterfalls), the gorge, the high desert (you can pick sunstone gems up off the ground at the free public sunstone spot), Crater Lake, and Eugene. I live on the Highway between Florence on the coast, and Eugene in Mapleton. Mapleton is known for Sweet Creek Falls which is pretty.

Another reason many Americans don't have passports is because a lot of workplaces here don't give their employees enough vacation time compared to many other countries. If you're lucky, you might get two weeks off for the entire year and many companies won't even give that. If Americans want to travel we usually have to make it quick and it's easier to stay within the country. My husband's company, for example, uses some of that time if he becomes ill and has to miss work. We're taking one week to visit my parents in another state because that's all he has after having a cold earlier in the year.

in response to the route 66 road trip, you could always rent a car at the starting destination and turn it in where you end and fly out from there, so you wouldn't have to do it twice.

I have been to at least half these places. My favorite places to visit are Charleston, South Carolina - the entire historic district is like stepping back into the antebellum days, Memphis, Tennessee - because I LOVE blues music, Mammoth Cave, Kentucky - the world's largest cave system, & Hearst Castle in California. I believe none of those were on this list. You are right about most Americans preferring to travel within their own country. If you want to visit California I would advise you to set aside 2 weeks at the least because it is huge and there are about 450 miles between LA & San Fran with loads of stuff to see in between such as Hearst Castle. If you go to Salem, you have to go for Halloween. Otherwise, it's just a boring small town without too much to see and is next to one of Massachusetts worst towns. During October that town is a lot of fun tho and you would have a few days of fun activities and history to explore. They go all out for Halloween.

Notre Dame Stadium was a weird choice. If there was going to be a college football stadium there would have been at least 10 stadia I'd choose before Notre Dame

You can do Vegas, utah, and northern Arizona including the Grand Canyon without going very far

I can guarantee you that every one here in the states can give another list of 100 places to see that weren't on this list, there are just places and history everywhere. I am in sw Ohio, 15 minutes from Kings Island which gives Cedar Point a run for best coaster parks, in Dayton you get the full history of the Wright Bros and the first flight since this is where the lived, owned a bike shop, where the plane was built. Cincinnati has the first fire station in the US, in 1869, the Cincinnati Reds were the very first pro baseball team, Cincinnati also has rich history of the Underground Railroad helping those enslaved reach freedom and then the Ohio River itself. Also the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is incredible, not a bad Elvis impersonator as this guy showed, he obviously isn't a music fan. My uncle lives on a mountain which the Blue Ridge parkway winds through, the Blue Ridge mntns are incredible. He left out Sprindfield, Ill where Lincoln lived, had his law office and where he is buried. Much disrespect shown for not including the memorials of Washington DC, the war memorials, Arlington National Cemetery. I'm 54 and I'm still a kid every time when at Magic Kingdom at Disney World in Orlando or to Disneyland in California. My point in this is that no matter where you go here, don't worry, just ask locals or google where you are, there is history and awesome places to see everywhere. Just relax and have a great time.

You can drive to Alaska on the Al Can highway, or you can take a ferry from Washington state. The planes that fly into Anchorage from all over the globe are not little planes.We had the largest plane in the world, the Antonov, land here during the pandemic. That same plane was destroyed by Russian troops last year in Ukraine. Anchorage is the third largest cargo airport in the US and handles massive planes all the time in any weather. Small planes such as float planes and ski planes are used for excursions to villages and off the road system places but cities in Alaska where most tourists visit have regular airports.

I love the Mark Twain Home in Hannibal, which is an hours from home. We studied Mark Twain literature in School fantastic stories.

Been camping on a lake on orcas island the view from the top of the island is unreal best camping spot I’ve been too

I grew up in Cahokia Village now Cahokia Heights and the mounds are about 15-20 minutes from there. I played on those mounds before they were cleared off and no steps. I seen archeologist go on top the mounds and dig artifacts up. There is a wonderful museum there and small gift shop. Very interesting

Best way to do Route 66 is to go EAST to WEST in a comfortable large car (there is a reason why those classic Cadillacs are so big). Go with a minimal planning and be open to seeing silly, crazy, insane things like largest buffalo or a weird bug museums, or VWs stuck in the desert, or whatever the billboards are advertising, just go and see and don't try to make sense of it all. At the end of the EAST to WEST journey, you get to see the Pacific Ocean and explore Venice Beach and other LA places. You can then drive up to Anaheim and go to Disneyland or go to San Francisco. Route 66 EAST to WEST has a way better finish line and the roadside attractions get crazier the farther west you go so the build up is a lot more exciting.

My dads side of the family is from Talpa NM which is just down the road from the Taos pueblo its a great area, absolutely beautiful. For another New Mexico Must see I recommend Bisti / De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area

We saw Mark Twain's boyhood home while on vacation about 2 weeks ago, we also saw Mount Rushmore, and the Badlands of South Dakota, and the Corn Palace on the same trip.

I’ve been to 47 out of all 50 states and have been to 82 out of these 100 spots on the list. I was fortunate enough growing up to be able to travel the country multiple times. Did most of the traveling in a F350 dually pulling a 5th wheel camper. Some of my most memorable moments I have today were during these trips and I still love to travel.

I dispute that the Portland headlight is the most iconic lighthouse in America. The Cape Hatteras lighthouse is much more iconic, and it's also one of the tallest lighthouses in the world. NC has a bunch of distinctive lighthouses, all of which are more interesting than that plain white monolith he chose.

The Knife's Edge Trail in Katahdin State Park in Maine. It's a 1 mile long 3-5 feet wide crest of mountain with extreme drops off each side and strong winds. Lots of videos if you prefer not to make the trip on your own, but see it anyway,

French quarter in New Orleans is mainly safe. Bourbon Street is one of the fewest places in the U.S. you can drink while walking down the street.

Orcas Island is part of the San Juan Islands, which is just north of Puget Sound in the Straight of Georgia. It's actually pronounced ore-cuss, despite there being a lot of orcas in the waters around there. I grew up in the Puget Sound area, about an hour & a half west of Seattle, and that's how all of us always said it.

You don't have to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway in one day. We drove it in a couple of days back in the late 70s. There are plenty of places to stop on the Parkway for something to eat and restroom facilities. There are overlooks where you can pull off and get spectacular views. There are several places you can stay just off the Parkway. All within a short drive. You can pull off at several places in order get to the place you want to stay.

You can drive from California up the Pacific Northwest and end in Washington, from there they have cruise ships that go through Alaska. I made the trip before and it was about 3 weeks taking my time. I stopped in many places along the way.

Calif. Has so much,i lived between san fran. And LA,just few hrs to beach,yosemite,or big cities....so much to see.

Sir Paul McCartney traveled on route 66. The Oklahoma portion has lots of places to site see including a few museums along the way.

Respectfully, Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan is built into the sideofhill, seats 107,000 people and is one of tge biggest sports stadiums in the World.

I've lived in Maine a state that borders Canada my entire life of 50yrs and I've never had a passport. I've been to Canada twice in the 90's when I turned 18. In the US the drinking age was 21 but in Canada it was 18. So we went to Canada. Back then all you needed to cross the border was your driver's license. After 9/11 you now need a passport.

Been to Niagra Falls, Mt. Rushmore, The Corn Palace (unavoidable when traveling West from the Midwest), The Alamo, Notre Dame Stadium (touchdown Jesus!), Wrigley Field, Las Vegas, Smokey Mountains, Disney World and Route 66. Would also recommend the Badlands National Park in South Dakota, Little Bighorn National Monument, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the city of Deadwood in South Dakota, St. Augustine Florida and Key West Florida. Also if passing through St Louis you have to check out the Arch.

I agree. Visiting these places after you die would be quite boring.

The Cahokia mounds site in Illinois is estimated to have had a population larger than London on its time. Pretty crazy. And we've got Native mounds similar to that all over the country. Pinson State mounds in Tennessee is even older!

I am a native Californian. I was born in Berkeley, grew up in the east San Francisco Bay Area, still live between San Francisco and Sacramento. I you wish to travel to northern California, I could guide you on your travels. This would include the locations on the video plus many more. I have easy access to Alcatraz, San Francisco, Muir Woods, Napa and Sonoma Valley locations, Highway 101and Highway 1, Mount Lassen, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Sequoia National Forest, Monterey Bay (including the aquarium), and as you leave Northern California, you could head through Death Valley on your way to the Grand Canyon and possibly Las Vegas. If I can help, let me know. If you wish to head to Southern California, I would suggest Hearst Castle, Hollywood, Disneyland in Anaheim, San Diego, etc..

Multnomah Falls in Oregon is a beautiful place. There are hiking trails. It is in the columbia gorge

Idk if I missed it but I didn't see Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan. A while back it won the most beautiful place in America. Pictured Rock National Lakeshore is another beautiful place in Michigan.

In California a must see is Lake Tahoe and Carmel which is on the ocean just south of San Francisco.

I'm from KY and my top things to see in America that I have been to in order are 1. The Grand Canyon, 2. Niagara Falls, 3. Yellowstone N.P. 4. Key West....

Alaskan summers. Nothing like it in the world. The wildlife and wilderness will blow your mind!

Center For Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, Georgia should be on everyone's bucket list too. They have puppets from throughout time. The Henson family donated over 500 muppet pieces. They put puppet shows on including an iconic version of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer at Christmas.

Myself and my wife got married just down the road from the orchard house at the Colonial Inn Bed. It,s been around singe before the Revolutionary War. Orchard House is very nice.

I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunities to see many of these places. The Pacific NW, Glacier National Park, Columbia River Gorge, Blue Ridge Pkwy/Smokey Mountains are among some of my favorites. Many of these I don't consider worth the trip, but then I tend to gravitate more to the natural wonders as opposed to the historic sites. Many amazing places not listed here, unfortunately. Best cities to visit besides NY are San Francisco, San Diego, Nashville, Chicago and Seattle (imo).

I love amusement parks and roller coasters. I've never been to Cedar Point although I actually lived in Columbus, OH for about a year and a half. It's a place I can say is on a bucket list for me.

Been to Assateague Island, Hoover Dam, Cedar Point Amusement Park, Independence Park, Disney World, Diamond Head, Philadelphia City Hall, Blue Ridge Parkway. Just 9 out of these 50. So in total I've visited 21 out of 100.

I’ve been to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, San Diego zoo, the mall of America,and the Hoover Dam. But did you know that in northern Minnesota you can literally walk over the Mississippi River. The head waters is Lake Itasca. They put rocks 🪨 at the stream that is the Mississippi River. So you can walk over the river.

I've flown over the Golden Gate many times. It is awesome. You won't be bored in California, ever.

When you come, you must see Philadelphia and it’s iconic City Hall. A few blocks up the street is where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were written. Also, go walk the Parkway. He is right that Philly is more a European city really. It’s a major city with a hometown feel. I should know, it’s my hometown.

I would add one he missed. AMARG. "The 309th AMARG takes care of nearly 4,000 aircraft, which makes it the largest aircraft storage and preservation facility in the world." 4000 aircraft in the desert, and you can take a tram ride through it.

Blue Ridge Parkway is the one you want to take the fall to see the fall foliage.

Regarding your question if there is a toll to cross the Golden Gate Bridge in the previous video, yes there is it. It's $8. All 8 major bridges in the Bay Area charge a toll to cross.

My final score was seven--Liberty Hall and City Hall in Philadelphia, the Smokey Mountains, Disney World, Nashville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Daytona. I've been to lots of other places, but they didn't make that guy's list. He left out the Huntsville Alabama Rocket Park, Sweetwater Tennessee's The Lost Sea cave system, the Very Large Array radio telescope facility in New Mexico, and lots of other neat places I've been to in the US. That's understandable because I live in the Southern US and he seems to be based on the West Coast.

If you're interested in architecture you might consider Fallingwater in Pennsylvania. Its maybe the magnum opus of America's greatest architect. Also Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan is considered a great visit.

30 on this part of the list. So many more to try. I think something missing is the Napali Coast and Waimea Canyon on the the island of Kauai in Hawaii.

You are right the second half wasn't as compelling. My total count out of the 100 is 46. FYI, Rt66 doesn't take as long going back because on the way you are stopping at roadside attractions. On your way home you are just driving back directly without stopping.

wrigley field is the 2nd oldest baseball park in the USA. Only one that is older is Fenway park in Boston Ma opened in 1912 Same week Titanic sunk.

I think i counted 16 total for me. Was surprised Notre Dame stadium was on the list. I'm a football fan but don't care about visiting it. Washington DC is a must. As Millie mentioned also, surprised Graceland wasn't on the list. There are numerous places I'd add to this list and take quite a few of his off.

Between both videos i have been to 37. And about route 66. Oklahoman has the longest fully open stretch of the highway left.

I would not rule out Rocky Mountain National Park because of pictures of snow. Giviving off cold feelings. We enjoyed or time in the park and regretted not being there longer.

If you visit Vegas there are a ton of tours to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Los Angeles is also about a 3.5 hour drive from Vegas, so it’s a good spot to visit if you want to see a lot of the more popular destinations in a single vacation.

Beesleys: I've said it before--skip southern California and focus on Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Big Sur to Mendocino on Highway 1, San Francisco, Marin County, the Redwood Forest and Napa wine country. you won't be disappointed. Yosemite is the most amazing thing to see in all of our national parks. If you go to Lake Tahoe in July or August you will not believe how wonderful the climate is and the lake is AMAZING.
