"I Can See For Miles" was recorded for The Who's 1967 album 'The Who Sell Out.' 1967 was the summer of love, when large numbers of fledgling hippies would headed to San Francisco to hear their favorite bands, among them - The Who.

Lyrics:
I know you've deceived me, now here's a surprise
I know that you have 'cause there's magic in my eyes
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah
If you think that I don't know about the little tricks you play
And never see you when deliberately you put things in my way
Well, here's a poke at you
You're gonna choke on it too
You're gonna lose that smile
Because all the while
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah
You took advantage of my trust in you when I was so far away
I saw you holding lots of other guys and now you've got the nerve to say
That you still want me
Well, that's as may be
But you gotta stand trial
Because all the while
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah
I know you've deceived me, now here's a surprise
I know that you have 'cause there's magic in my eyes
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah
The Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal are mine to see on clear days
You thought that I would need a crystal ball to see right through the haze
Well, here's a poke at you
You're gonna choke on it too
You're gonna lose that smile
Beacuse all the while
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles
and miles and miles and miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles x9

They are not even close to being #1. The Beatles, The Moody Blues, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Steppenwolf, Jethro Tull, Cream, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Grateful Dead, Black Oak Arkansas, The Rolling Stones, and The Byrds were all much better. Even The Monkees were better and sold more records (though they did have at least six outside people writing songs for them in addition to the 12 they wrote themselves).

Legend has it, when one description of this song said it was the loudest, dirtiest rock and roll song ever written, Paul McCartney was like "hold my beer" and wrote "Helter Skelter." And between The Beatles, The Who and Black Sabbath, heavy metal was born.

legend has it that is bullshit. The Beatles may have been many things but the instigators of Heavy metal they weren't! Plus...it was called Rock music for many years before the phrase heavy metal started to be used.. They refer to bands like Led Zeppelin as heavy metal nowadays but we all thought of them as a rock band and rock music. That's what they were, and are. not this stupid phrase heavy metal.

I was fortunate enough in 1976 to have seen the original band, just extraordinary. I can only imagine what you experienced seeing this young group. I next saw them after Keith passed away with Kenny Jones and Rabbit onstage, it was over for me, Pete was drunk, Roger and John were so angry they didn’t even acknowledge Pete , I had front row seats for that show. I went again with Kenny on drums and just not the same. People say that Zac has added what had been missing ?

The Beatles had more rock songs than the Who and so did The Rolling Stones. The Beatles also had at least four songs that are considered heavy metal (Helter Skelter, Yer Blues, Birthday, and the fast version of Revolution that was released as a single in the summer of 1968 - some also put "I Want You/She's So Heavy" in the categories of either heavy metal or doom metal)

Wasn't Pictures of Lily another hit from around this time aswell? That's another one the Who's 60s classics, before the 70s when they seemed to reinvent themselves with 'Who are you' heralding in their rock era and the 3 brilliant movies beginning with Tommy( love that movie as the songs show just what an incredible talent Pete Townshend has been) before Quadrophenia then McVicar, I mean theirs other songwriters who may've passed their 11 plus and even managed an A level or two but Pete Townshend holds A BA in songwriting infact if other artists fly in double winged aeroplanes, old Pete has a stealth fighter parked on his driveway, this bloke is a rock God , the only artist to even come close to being anything like him is Paul Weller, but it must be said that Roger Daltrey along with old Keith Moon and Mr Entwistle ( both of them on their own have God spellbound 'hench why nothing gets done really that's decent on earth) as a result there's the likes of Eminem & Stormzy that's ruined music with that rapp shite with songs about drive by shootings and postcode gangs etc and text talk because proper English grammar is like the apollo 11 project to them yeah bro ya dissing me man, ya get me? They leave school not able to write their own names, and migrants come here with people told 'they bring new skills and culturally enrich us" are what the young are taught to believe, I suppose Shamima Begum can impersonate an eggshell and potato peeling binbag left besides a wheelie bin? But the only thing that they bring into the UK is new Syphilis & flu strains 'hench the escooters that zoom through congested traffic to get them down to GU medicine appointments etc 'which at least enables typhus or Ebola to be detected before they get out into the black economy to pass on what they're carrying to people traffickers & prostitutes and other rogues like Will I am or Dizzy Rascal. Some even buy it "they rebuilt post war Britain" hmm? So after building huts outta mud that dry in the hot sun they acquired skills to build Canary wharf etc? Maybe they can claim credit for the fire escape routh in Grenville tower or even the fuse boxes located behind the bath taps! It's the racism they bring here that should be of paramount concern to everybody, along with black mould on ceilings.

My question are you saved and if you are are you still running the race. Or has your light grown dim and your salt lost its taste. Everybody wants to die for Christ but are they willing to live for him? Everybody is talking about the second coming of Christ or the rapture not that I don't. Jesus won the war all we have to do is fight the battle. Yes, things are dark and people are lost in their sin but now is not the time to give up and wait around for the rapture to come and do nothing. The idea of people not liking you or even being hated by others by others doesn't sit well with most Christians. It is easier to blend in with the crowd or the world and live a lukewarm life. When we think of the disciples we think of their faithfulness to Jesus and preaching the word with the threat of being tortured or killed at any time. They denied their flesh and self all in the name of Jesus and the word of God all ultimately dying horrific deaths. When we preach the gospel we need to remember if people are hostile to you or the message it is not you that they hate but Jesus. The only reason they hate you is because you're the messenger of the good news. I just don't take it personally, what can they do to me, yell at me, curse me, or take a punch at me that is nothing compared to the rewards one will receive and the glory God gets.

Helter Skelter McCartney was inspired to write the song after reading a 1967 Guitar Player magazine interview with the Who's Pete Townshend where he described their latest single, "I Can See for Miles", as the loudest, rawest, dirtiest song the Who had ever recorded. McCartney then "wrote 'Helter Skelter' to be the most raucous vocal, the loudest drums, et cetera" and said he was "using the symbol of a helter skelter as a ride from the top to the bottom; the rise and fall of the Roman Empire-and this was the fall, the demise."[4] In British English, the term "helter-skelter" not only has its meaning of "in disorderly haste or confusion" but is the name of a spiralling amusement park slide.[8] McCartney has used this song as a response to critics who accuse him of writing only ballads.[9]
