CLARO WALNUT IS IN MY OPINION THE GREATEST ALL AROUND WOOD FOR ELECTRIC GUITAR BUILDING, IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU WANT, EAS OF WORKABILITY, IT'S EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL, EVERY PEICE IS A WORK OF NATURAL ART, IT DOESN'T RUIN YOUR BLADES AND BITS, TAKES AN AMAZING FINISH JUST A PLEASURE TO BUILD WITH. IT IS EXPENSIVE UNLESS YOU LIVE IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA LIKE I DO AND KNOW A FEW PEOPLE WITH ORCHARDS, I'VE BEEN BLESSED WITH ACCESS TO AN ABUNDANCE OF THIS WOOD. I THOUGHT I WOULD GET TIRED OF USING IT AFTER A WHILE BUT THAT HASN'T HAPPENED YET.

I just scored a small 8/4 claro burl slab which i plan to use for an 11 inch diameter wood top banjo shaped buzuq.. going to hollow the circle body while leaving wood for the neck joint. plan to add either a sinker redwood or western red cedar top.

i use quartersawn black walnut as strips in my neck. i love the workability, but sometimes the knots are problematic while planing.

The Jericho edge 6 has a five piece maple walnut neck with a walnut body , and it sounds awesome. So do some pieces of walnut have better tonal qualities

That's weird...I figured walnut would make a great sounding wood because of it's hardness. I guess maple is the best. I also like ash. What about cedar wood? I also have some great mahogany but it isn't wide enough for a body...only a neck.

in my opinion cedar is a great body wood, top wood, back wood, or short reinforced guitar neck wood, the old growth is going to be softer for tops, and backs. Yet its strong enough for 10 string wide necks though, if you know what your doing. the tone is incredible and requires no time to come into its fully matured sound in acoustic and electric guitars and stays that way, other woods take a long long long time of frequency passing through it to sound in full maturity many years later.

In your opinion what gives a better sound? Rosewood or Walnut? Which is more expensive? Thanks and Good video

So for those pictures you showed with the walnuts back, did you use some stain to give it that darker color or does the walnut darken with the finish?

IT DARKENS WITH FINISH LIKE MOST WOOD DOES.

hey man, I'm a little confused. I wanna make a guitar, and the best thing is I have walnut trees. but I don't know how to go about treating the wood. do I have to cut it a specific way?

THERES A LITTLE MORE TO IT THAN THAT. YOU NEED TO ROUGH MILL THE LUMBER TO A COUPLE INCHES THICKER THAN WHATEVER YOUR FINAL PEICE WILL BE, STICKER THE BOARDS (STACK THEM WITH SPACERS UNDER EACH BOARD) SO AIR FLOW CAN GET TO EACH BOARD, YOU CAN PAINT OR WAX THE END GRAIN SO CRACKING WILL BE LIMITED. WRAP PLASTIC SHEETING AROUND THE STACK SO RAIN DOESN'T GET IT WET BUT LET AIR FLOW IN THE SIDES. IT TAKES A YEAR AN INCH TO AIR DRY WALNUT. AFTER YOU USE A MOISTURE METER TO SEE THAT YOUB HAVE YOUR BOARDS PROPERLY DRIED START ACCLIMATING THE LUMBER TO YOUR SHOP OR WORK SPACE. IT DOESN'T TAKE LONG USUALLY ABOUT A MONTH WORKS IN MY SHOP. THEN MILL OUT YOUR BLANKS, CLAMP THEM OVER NIGHT TO A FLAT SURFACE AND THE NEXT DAY THEY SHOULD BE READY TO MAKE A GUITAR. OR JUST GO TO A HARDWOOD STORE WHO BUYS KILN DRIED LUMBER, TAKE IT HOME, ACCLIMATE IT TO YOUR SHOP FOR A WEEK AND GET AFTER IT.

YES or kiln dry to speed it up a notch. some of the best pieces for acoustic guitars have been drying 20 plus years. unless you get old growth salvaged tonewood, its softer than norm only around 350 to 500 on the janka hardness scale and is still a hardwood type. @@Ibaneddie76

Have you tried google? I'm sure you could find places there otherwise go look through lumber yards. I rarely buy "instrument" wood anymore because it tends to be overpriced for the same quality you can get at a lumber yard.

The moment you alluded to "tonewood" in electric solid body guitars you lost me. Greatest scam of the 21st century, selling tiny slivers of wood for an arm and a leg and your first born child on a false promise.

FALSE. its proven dynamically, the frequency response and curves on an analyzer revealed the truth all have been seeking to end the arguments of all arguments, because it showed definitively as visually seen on a dynamic full spectrum frequency analyzer, just as my father in heaven predicted, and with all that idiscerned, the behaviors and signature response and decibles throughout the frequency band are ALL different for each type of wood just like its own sonic fingerprint in a solid body electric guitar SIGNAL from the output jack. because pickups are not an electric absorber nor conductor through the strings, it is an actual microphone, just like a mic you sing through , with a magnetic transducer etc. and its on youtube. no pun , you gotta see it, to believe it.

For sure everything makes a difference, question is how significant is it and is one 'better' than another. In my opinion, although one might be able to hear a difference; who's to say which is better; just different. That having been said; I think most would agree that a chipboard guitar would sound pretty crap.
