Жыл бұрын

In this session, Beena Sarwar will talk about her journey of engagement in peace-building between India and Pakistan - from the Pakistan India Peoples Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD) in the mid-1990s, to Editor, Aman Ki Asha, a groundbreaking cross-border platform jointly initiated by two media groups in 2010, to the Southasia Peace Action Network, or Sapan, an initiative she started in 2021 along with several fellow-travelers. Sapan advocates a Southasia Union along the lines of the European Union or a region with soft borders.
About the Speaker:
Beena Sarwar is a journalist, artist and filmmaker who has held senior editorial positions in Pakistan including as founder editor of The News on Sunday, producer special reports Geo TV, and oped editor The News International. She is Editor of the Aman Ki Asha (hope for peace) platform, Founder-Curator of Sapan, the Southasia Peace Action Network and founding Editor Sapan News Network. She has been a Fellow at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University and a Fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. Having primarily lived and worked in Karachi and Lahore, she is currently based in Boston where she teaches journalism as visiting faculty at Emerson College. She has previously taught journalism courses at the Harvard Summer School, Brown University and Princeton University.

In a country of 20 crore people, 55 people are listening, you think you can make these Pakistani radicalized zombies human beings. It's like 'Hamaari koshish mein koi kami ho to batao'. Is level ki talks se society mein kuch nahi hone wala, is se jyada to jumme ki nammaz mein ek masjid mein log radicalize hone jaate hai. 😂😂

U can't fool India. Krishna forgave Sisupal 100 times, then took action. India is just doing that now. So It's only Pakistan's responsibility to take initiatives. India has 50 crores of well educated aggrieved middle v class people, and the number is increasing. They dominate India

Let us have peace with zero engagement. Just mind our own business. We wish you the best, but there is no appetite in India for Pakistan. 26/11 has changed many people like me forever. Never again.

Now India have no appetite for Pakistan antics .India is working very hard to progress despite its own problems . Pakistan is no longer in Indian radar. Why only non resident Pakistanis r talking of peace but rest of Pakistanis r yearning for ghazwa e Hind . There can be no peace until Pakistan shed its ideology .Which is impossible .

Pakistan ke log accept hi nahi karna chahte ki unki problem Islamic radicalization hai. Jab accept nahi karenge to sudhrenge kaise. Neta, Abhineta , army aur jyadatar public sab gazwae hind ke khwab dekhte hai. Hum Indians ko nahi chahiye aise nafratiyon se dosti.

Please question your establishment who has caused this situation. Expect Punjabi's and some North Indian Muslims nobody has interest in Pakistan. The popular sentiment in India is we are better off without Pakistan. We have no bomblasts nowadays which was common during Aman ka Asha days.

Don’t blame govts. Blame people. Lahoree chooran that we are same and we want peace and all trouble is by govt on both sides is absolutely untrue. Reality is we don’t want peace. When we don’t accept 26/11 and don’t accept massacre during partition, don’t accept that partition was unnatural and more Muslims in India, false narrative of Kashmir. How can one have Muslim population larger than Pakistan in India whim Pakistan claims been highly persecuted and want Kashmir because it is Muslim majority and still say people are nice only govt are bad. No actually we are bad and govt on both sides are nothing but reflection of us. Therefore don’t create drama. Cool down. For few years no terrorist attack in India. Allow Kashmiris to live in peace. Probably after few years things might be normal. Don’t say india should be secular and Pakistan Islamic nation.

Keep religion a strictly personal affair and deal with fellow human beings on a purely insaniyat basis. In other words, Keep religion inside your home and do not let public life be affected by it. Separate state and the religion. India has achieved that to a high level. Can Pakistan, a country created on the basis of a religion, achieve that to a necessary level? I have serious doubts about that. Thus, good relations between India and Pakistan, unfortunately, are a far cry. Having said that, humans' motivation level towards any idea, often is driven by the potential desirable outcomes. So, the work needs to be done to highlight the good outcomes and thereby nudge the naysayers towards peace and good relations. Let's keep the hope alive, no matter how hard it may seem.

all hoax and emotionalism , india tried this dish called aman ki aasha for 60 50 years, your artist were all over bollywood, Indians gave them love from actors to singers , but what happened kargil backstabbing , parliament attack, akshardham attack ,mumbai attack , pathankot ,URi attack etc etc , so first improve your country and make some basic institutions which works , pakistan is a democracy but your chief holds the power , your society is full of hate towards india and particularly hindus , you fed hate towards hindus in your school curriculum, first change your society and stop this terrorism ,

There’s a strong understanding in India now that peace with Pakistan is not the solution but rather an alternative solution that is a quiet border between India and Pakistan would help both the countries to grow as resolving differences is impossible without a major concession from Pakistan to completely eradicate extremism terrorism and radicalism which is impossible for Pakistan to achieve

*South Asia has now become defunct!* It is now known as the Indian Sub-continent which is part of the larger Indo-Pacific region. *Pakistan is now part of the AfPak region!* It is a much better idea to have *soft borders between Pakistan & Afghanistan* for more people to people exchange with a common curriculum in Madrassas on both sides to foster a common Jihadi culture...

People make leaders and not otherwise. Modi is Popular PM because people want him. Indian people are not sheep to blindly follow any leader blindly. Pakistan was formed on two nation theory. Has Pakistan rejected that theory. You have so many islamic countries around you, but you are desperate for relations with the people you rejected on basis of religion. You have set the hate narrative in 1947 and we are just obliging you. Keep hating us and blame us for your misery. This conversation will push more indians away. Good luck Beena, with your fraudulent moral high ground you are going nowhere. Bhutto's 1000 years war, Zia's bleeding India with a thousand cuts and Musharraf's eternal low intensity conflict has come ro fruition.

India experienced many bad experience in past whenever they show good gesture for example mumbai attack. This is why reluctant to give any easy visa. Also pakistani politicians or government officials instead talking about serious business talks start with kashmir which is irritating Indian. Also a thought moving here that pakistan current position whether it's financial or political not good so they want talk but what if things gets settled in future? Are they not start same kashmir song here and there? Pakistan has to show repeated good gesture towards India to win their trust. Without Pakistan support India doing well so don't expect immediate positive response from Indian side.

I think Pakistan has wrong perception about India.....its not whole India were u will find anger towards Pakistan, its mostly in cow belt. South indian , Bengali and North east don't share same hatred towards pakistan and considering historical significance Punjabis dont hate pakistan either but still many security concerns that India have are genuine and historically also India didn't had good experience with Pakistan( I want Indo pak relations to improve) . Every time effort was made from our side something fishy is done by pak establishment in the past so some serious guarantees need to given to India if we desire any improvement in relations but only way forward in the region is peace and economic integration and we all should strive to end radicalization and promote rationality.....JAI HIND experience

France and England fought for centuries. Now they are part of European Union. Saudia and Syria are coming closer. So it is only the will of the leaders to sort out the differences. People of both countries are so eager to have good relations. A relationship like Canada and US can be easily established. both India and Pakistan can have good relations , far better than the US and Canada. It may take some time. But the leaders of both countries should start this process.
