The sad truth though is that there are many "fans" (if you can even call them that) who thought that Shadow was a "lame edge lord" right from the beginning! Sonic Team likely wanted to bring back the feeling of Adventure 2 (Shadow's debut title) where Sonic and Shadow played exactly the same in Story Mode (the exclusive moves only appearing in the Multiplayer Mode). I'm certain they could give him Chaos powers if a Multiplayer Mode was added, but unless Sonic Forces gets rereleased as part of a Modern Collection that somehow randomly gets announced, it probably won't happen. Come to think of it, Unleashed and Generations should have Multiplayer Modes, too.

@@bachilles3285 Few incorrect points. Exclusive moves applied to both multiplayer and single player. Sonic and Shadow are so similar in SF because the game was rushed. Shadow was actually made playable in SF as a treat to and to appeal to SA2 fans.

Fair, but only Sonic and Shadow can use their respective Sonic Wind and Chaos Spear moves in Story Mode, but not when playing the characters themselves. Oh, and it only appears in their final boss stages. Another counterpoint, Sonic Team spent 2.5 of the 4 years they were given to put Sonic Forces together building the Hedgehog Engine 2 together, so it's not completely rushed (except in the level design and Modern Sonic's gameplay, obviously).

I never said "completely rushed", so you didn't need to argue that. You specifically mentioning Sonic's gameplay is what I've assumed was applied to Shadow as well, hence why he suffers from the same issues Sonic does. Even then, they managed to differentiate him enough to not be as nearly identical to Sonic as he was in his debut game: different boost animation vs same spindash; different homing attack vs same homing attack. (:

@Spirit The Homing Attacks are the same in Forces as well as Adventure 2, cool down animations included. Homing Attacks have always been a Mid-Air Spin Dash since their debut in the first Sonic Adventure game, and for all characters that've used it (except for Blaze and Espio, since they turn into tornados when homing attacking and Blaze uses a fire variant in 06 called the Flaming Claw) The only thing about Forces Sonic and Forces Shadow's gameplay that's different is the running (or, in Shadow's case, skating) and Boost animations and aura colors (Sonic's aura is blue and Shadow's aura is gold). They also use the same small step animation (8 steps are taken in total to get Sonic and the Avatar to max speed), with the rest of the run cycle depending on the character being played. Sonic begins to slowly lift his arms back as his footsteps become faster, his arm flailing coming to a complete stop once max speed has been obtained, while Shadow skates fast to build up initial momentum, but begins slow down the leg flails as said momentum increases (which makes more sence than him skating slowly from the beginning and the leg flails becoming faster when increasing speed in Adventure 2). The only other difference between Sonic and Shadow is the fact that Episode Shadow has Balloons and Galaga Bees as obsticles and the Iron Balls in that DLC can be attatched to poles and spin on gears, similar to those seen in the Adventure duology.

It's 95% non-canon (the only 5% cononness being the Prison Island Hero Mission, the Last Story, and (if Shadow joining GUN in 06 is taken into consideration) the Expert Mode).

@@bachilles3285 I highly doubt your percentages are accurate. 06 was a reboot, so Shadow's ending doesn't matter to the continuity.

@Spirit I consider the Adventure duology (if you can call it that) and Generations more as reboots than I do 06, as 06 changes nothing about the series story-wise (except for Shadow and Omega joining GUN, obviously). The changes made in 06 come after that game with Rush and Rivals, since Sonic doesn't meet Blaze and Silver anymore until those respective games due to him and Elise killing Solaris. Plus, Generations made it so that the events of 06 were archived in White Space before (theoretically) being restored to the timeline after the dimension (and its guardian, the Time Eater) was destroyed. Also, Eggman (both Classic and Modern) is left as White Space's remnant at the end of the game, meaning he's no longer a threat to Team Sonic. As for the Adventure duology (again, if you can call it that), the first installment establishes that the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald existed as part of Mystic Ruins before part of it was sentenced to the sky (both using and alongside the Servers and their Controller) as Angel Island, while the sequel establishes that the entirety of the series takes place on Earth, effectively making the "Early Canon" from the original series totally pointless.

Sonic Boom isn’t canon to the main series games and it’s in another universe, so therefore, Sonic Boom Shadow doesn’t count.

I remember reading on Sonic News Network that Shadow and Knuckles were planned to appear in Unleashed, but ultimately didn't because Sonic Team wanted to shift the focus of the series back to Sonic after 06's critical failure.
