9 reasons why you should study biomedical engineering: 1. Interested in math and science (at least enjoy math if you want this field) 2. Enjoy problem solving and critical thinking (core of any engineering degree) 3. Improving health and quality of life (help others out) 4. Opportunity to study up to any level (BA, MA, or Dr) 5. Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary (very versatile) 6. High Income Potential 7. Innovation and Entrepreneurship 8. Work in Health-tech Industry 9. Challenge and new (a very competitive and challenging major) Thank you!

There is also more diversity and you can still work in the BME sector with a mechanical engineering degree. I’m not saying this to discourage you from pursuing BME. Just want you to be aware of the benefits of doing ME. HOWEVER, I can tell you that I LOVED my BME degree. If I could go back, I would still choose to study BME. would you say the engineering aspects of BME outweighs the biology aspects of it? Asking as a college student interested in medicine but your video got me curious about BME
@TheBMELife
@TheBMELife 3 жыл бұрын
I think it definitely depends on the program/school. I've found it to be a pretty good mix but maybe leaning a bit more in the biology side. Even your typical engineering classes will have a focus in biomedical applications. e.g. instead of calculating flow rate through a pipe, you will be looking at air flow rate in lungs or blood flow in vessels. Hope this helps!

@TheBMELife

Hi Chris! I personally do not know of many certification programs for BME. BME is a bachelors degree, but there are certainly certifications BME can get like in leadership, management, etc. One of the certifications I have been interested in is a Cardiac Device Specialist certification. This is a very specific certificate, but I am sure there are other ones for other medical fields. If you are interested, you can find more info here: med.uth.edu/epheart/about/what-are-cardiac-device-or-cardiac-electrophysiology-specialists/

What a fantastic video! If this doesn't make it clear what BME is all about for prospective students, then no YT clip will! Great title too ;) PS: is that your dad in a Covid-suit? PSS: we still need to make a BMS-BME trade-off video (so much to do, so little time) PSSS: one of my favorite quotes is: "A jack of all trades, is master of none, BUT still way better than master of one!" I’m a current biomed student and a B student. Honestly, Its a broad field and an undergrad will mostly not be as beneficial. If you plan on a masters or even medical school, this might be a great choice for you. Personally, I picked it as I was indecisive, but regret not picking a more concentrated field. It also didn’t leave much room for college life experience like joining sports, major clubs that required serious commitments, and social life is probably minimal . I’m studying on weekends and/or searching for opportunities to get hands on experience like lab work. I’m also in an accelerated program school so my experience might not similar to others.
@TheBMELife
@TheBMELife 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! I agree a more concentrated field may work best for most, but I loved getting a BME bachelors and have found success without a mastered degree. The key is in finding internship opportunities that will give you the experience you need once you graduate. Best of luck to you!
