Have two pairs of Nick’s, both wildland fire boots. They’re worth every single penny of the price tag. It is also worth going through the sizing process. The build is based on a slew of measurements, not just length and width. If you’re going to spend the $ then take the time to allow Nicks to build you the best boot for your feet.

I have 2 pair of Nick's boots, one pair are 10" Rangers (work boot) and the other pair are also Rangers but made like The Robert using brown domane leather and dogger heel, but with a 10" upper (for more "dressy" occasions). Went through the fitting process, which really is a MUST. After 21 years of wearing the lowest bidder combat boots, my feet are in poor shape. I finally broke down and bought the Ranger work boots first. Love them and can wear them ALL DAY working outside on our 4 acre homestead. Can't do that w/ ANY OTHER boots or shoes I own. These are so comfortable, I ended up wearing them for 3 days straight at Disneyland for my wife's birthday vacation. 13 hours / day walking on concrete. I could not have made it through with any other boot. I was kinda wishing I had these Travelers, though.

The one thing that stands out most to me is the included kilties, that's one aesthetic thing I miss about my Thorogood's. I can make myself a set of kilties no problem, but color matching will be tricky.

I've standard symmetrical feet, albeit big at 13D. Never had issues with other brands being off/tight/loose, etc so I printed the home self-measurement template and instructions off NB's website under the Sizing section - making sure that my printer settings were set to 100% scale; if not it would cause incorrect measurements - and after was able to order a pair of 8" Travelers in Wickett & Craig Double Stuffed Burgundy w/ 2021 Sandy Wedge. I ordered in 12.5 D per NB's recommendations to go down a 1/2 size from what you typically wear. Can't wait for them to arrive as I've been wanting a great, long-lasting walking boot for a while.

@joshuataylor81
@joshuataylor81 3 жыл бұрын
I may not be the boot guy, but for a person who wears boots nearly all the time crew socks are really not good for boots. You would do best with getting some good boot socks like thick wool or blend. Darn tough socks are highly recommended as well as Red Wing boot socks. They will provide more cushiong, insulation, protection, and comfort than any crew sock could.

I don't own any nicks, but I am currently trying a new type of insole in my boots where I use several layers of vegetable tanned leather (currently 4 layers of 8 ounce but I think I might add another peice to raise the arch a little more) the break in period has almost been like a new pair of boots but the leather was already noticeably shaping to my foot by the end of the first day so I would imagine that boots that are made to have a similar internal structure using sole bends would have quite the break in period. For those who are wondering the insoles are a prototype that is only loosely stitched together so modifying them isn't difficult, i plan on creating an improved version that has a layer of cork and utilizes thinner leather such as pigskin for a faster break-in period(plus the 2 layers of thick leather directly under my toes is a bit too much and is bordering on crowding out my toes)

It's very late but yes they have arch support. It's kind of in the insole and the way Nicks does boots. It's not a flat piece of leather, it's multiple layers shaped to a foot.

Interesting. I had never heard of these boots and maybe that was a good thing... I really like the look of them. Considering the handmade nature of them, the quality materials, and the customer service, the price doesn't seem over the top at all. I can't afford them right now but I would pay that kind of money for something like this. It's good to support domestically made, quality products. 50% of the break and is breaking your foot into the new shoe if the arch is different you have small connective tissues that tear and repair that’s why your feet while it’s there in the break in so you can’t always blame the boat you got to go to the pain because you switched up the routine support again it’s connected tissues and small stuff they’ll hurt and heal

I don't think it matters to be honest. If it lasts 6months. The fact these are built better when compared to thorogood's, the leather lasts longer. So you get long life, you just have to get them resoled sooner.

@mikezeke7041 5 жыл бұрын
Resoled? At what cost. I’d bet a pair of redwings could last 2-3 resoles, these would have to last 5-6 in my mind. They are showing an estimate of $150 to resole. Eh, I’ll stick with my Carolinas or wolverines.
@TheTyrial86
@TheTyrial86 5 жыл бұрын
@@mikezeke7041 If you are using Carolina's you aren't working in a wedge sole boot. Boots have different functions and made for different reasons. I work in a plant, and wedge soles make a difference. If I wore loggers my feet would be dead. Wedge soles come with territory, of not lasting long. Shit my pair of thorogoods won't last more then two years. If I could get 5 years out of a boot and pay more. I would. It depends on who does the resoling. Where I am, a vibram sole costs about 89 to resole.

Well you just made my day lol. I knew they sold them since they are a sacrifice piece of leather but wasn’t sure if they would look right since Thorogood’s are not designed for them.

Man, if Nick's would make it with a steel toe and compete with thorogood. I would buy these over thorogood.
@Deaddriftbum
@Deaddriftbum 5 жыл бұрын
Steel/composite toe or not there is NO WAY Nick’s could compete with Thorogoods. Nick’s are handmade and fitted to YOU. Thorogoods are definitely not. Materials are far superior with Nick’s compared to Thorogoods. The time and material put into each pair of Nick’s causes the possible competition to be nonexistent. If you want a boot to last 25 years buy Nick’s or the other handful of handmade custom boot makers. If that’s not what you need stick to Thorogoods, they are decent boots for mass production line boots.

@@Deaddriftbum I know all of this.... My point isn't for mass production. But a wedge sole with a steel toe, as I would spend the extra money for the quality and comfort.

I have both. I like the Nick's a bit more, but also like the Whites. Very, VERY little difference between the two of them really. I think it comes down to fanboyism, like Wranglerstar, the KING of Fanboyz.

@@seamusc508 Well I am not particularly surprised that $100 boots are trash after two years. They are likely made out of trash materials to begin with. And ultimately I agree that I probably wouldn't use $400+ shoes for work. I was just pointing out that some of the value is in the fact that they could last you decades if taken care of.

Thats conservative. Vibram makes both outsoles and they are the same compounds. Red Wing just gets their logo thrown on the boot. So I don't think you'd actually have an issue Nicks just wanted to be on the safe side.
