What makes this movie even more awkward is Mother Goose was played by Hal Smith, who from 1987 until his death in 1994, voiced the part of John Avery Whittaker (a.k.a. "Whit") on the children's Christian radio drama "Adventures in Odyssey." Whit was the proprietor of "Whit's End," a soda shop and all-around safe place for children to learn Bible stories. Until I saw your video, I had never heard Whit drop the f-bomb.

Yes, anybody who's ever ragged on hentai needs to watch *Once Upon a Girl* and then fervently apologize to Japan. I saw this on VHS back in the Eighties. I've used it ever since as an example of exactly what's wrong with Western attempts at erotic animation. "Cartoons are for kids" is so burned into the Western psyche that even when we make animated porn, it has to be based off of fairy tales or a known children's cartoon. Exhibit A: *Once Upon a Girl*.
@AvengerII9 жыл бұрын
+Sailor Barsoom The sad thing is that you can watch Hollywood animation made before the TV days in the 1950s and there is no question that it wasn't made 'just for kids.' I also stand by the statement that even Walt Disney (the real Walt, not the corporate overload company today that's trying to white out its pre-1990s history) didn't talk down one-tenth as much as people accused him of. There's some fairly intense stuff in the first two decades of Disney animated features and even some of the theatrical shorts from the 1930s aren't that innocent, either. This is much more true for the animated shorts from Warner Bros, MGM (Tom and Jerry, Tex Avery), and Fleischer/Famous Studios. The characters are sold to kids on T-shirts, plushies, video games, and direct-to-video films today (made for children) but the original shorts are censored because it's considered politically incorrect (90% of the time) and too adult (less than 10% of it). The sad reality is that South Park, Family Guy, and The Simpsons have material that's far, far worse than the vast majority of classic (Golden Age) Hollywood animation. The stuff on TV can't hold a handle to the best 1930s-1950s animation. Japan's a different story. They produce the best limited (hand-drawn) animation today and haven't ham-strung themselves to being limited to fairy tales, princess movies (Disney specialties) or buddy films (Pixar and the other CG studios in the US). Oh, Japan has its formulas and DOES ride trends to death and DEFINITELY has its franchises (Gundam, Macross, Pokemon, and whatever girls show genre is hot at the moment) but there's more variety in general in its animation industry. The adult side of their industry is still very small but because of the higher sheer volume of animation production from Japan (and South Korean subsidiary studios) they still get out a lot more adult stuff than the US. Most of it is in the PG-13 to R region, though. They don't like "X"-rated stuff much more than over here and they got for what's most profitable. Definitely still more latitude on what kind of subject material to produce, though.

@@SailorBarsoom honestly? Read the original unedited for "modern sensibilities" Grimm stories. Fairy tale endings hadn't been invented yet! A lot of the stories in the old fairy tale books like Grimm or the Arabian nights... would be R rated if made to be authentic. Exhibit A: Bluebeard! I actually liked that version of the Red Riding hood they did where the story is a werewolf fight, and not just a mundane wolf. 'cause reading the original story.... it READS like a WEREWOLF story!

Oh, Frank Welker. I love you but HOLY and SHIT. And I'm surprised they made the male Giant a buff, lumberjack looking dude. With the way this movie was going, I thought they were going to make him super ugly and dumpy but I guess it's a....SURPRISE?

Super Cosmic Mutant Honey Candle Squid The giant was basically the only saving grace when it comes to the male characters designs.

Saberspark should have watched this before posting his own review And hey! It _still_ hasn’t been struck down for _copyright infringement_ And I wish you would keep up the creative censoring 23:40 you could review THE ISLAND ON TOP OF THE WORLD

I don’t know why a saucy bridge troll was so funny in this, but it’s fucking hilarious.

Liked because any KZfaq clip that makes me laugh so hard I have to pause the video for 30 seconds deserves it. (It was Brandon tacking himself on the end of happily ever after that specifically provoked the uncontrollable laughter. I'm kind of tempted to make that my desktop background).

This movie was so sinful, the commercial break was a Ramadan lesson bookended by prayer

Should have had the Fairy Godmother use Sharptooth's roars at one point, since Welker voiced him, too.
@nicholaslienandjaja1815 Жыл бұрын
And to a lesser extent, the Dragonzord and Obsidius (due to Sharptooth’s roars becoming stock sound effect used in many later projects, including Power Rangers and Godzilla: Unleashed).

Subscribed! Also, they missed the opportunity of a lifetime in not having the movie be about Pimpy the troll lol!

Why does Mother Goose reminded me of Owl from The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh? Is that the same actor who did the role of Owl?

I think problem with movies like this it throws too many things at the screen at once. Sure many have weird fetishes (I sure do) but even if they manage to please one fetish of someone, something else in the same movie is going to turn them off.
@KRhetor10 жыл бұрын
Welker was even Niblet on the South Park episode "KORN's Groovy Pirate's Adventure."

1:38, I'm shocked you got away with it by leaving that scene uncensored and didn't get this video demonitized.
