Sobek - Board Game Review - Just One More Corruption?

I've played it once at an event, simply took the manual, read it quickly and go go go :D Very simple and very enjoyable. I've bought it soon after. And I must agree - two copies of those info cards would be great, although usually only one player needs it and it's not like you're sitting far away from each other, it's a 2 player game in the end :D I am enjoying it a lot.

This is a superb light 2 player game… i love it. Bruno comes up with another gem after 7 wonders Duel.

Great review! I've played this a bunch on BGA and in 'real life' and love it. I think the mechanisms are so clever. I agree there should be a player aid per player, and the luck of the deben token draw is a slight negative. Reminds me a little of Jaipur when you sell 3, 4 or 5 of an item you can draw that extra token but the value of it can be low or high, I always seem to get unlucky in those scenarios! My current favourite 2 player games are Caper Europe, Lost Cities and Hanamikoji 🙂

- Great video, Luke - delivered as usual with such energy, clarity and honesty. - Sobek (I haven't played it yet) has some characteristics of an older game, Fossil (Palesch). - Fossil has the same set collection multiplier mechanism, a square grid (9x9) and nice components. - Differences include the presence of two stone markers (in lieu of one Ankh); a marker is always subject to an orthogonal move (a la chess rook); and there is a one point penalty per crossed over tile (in lieu of corruption pile). - Based on your video, Sobek seems to be a bit deeper, with more variety in the tactical play. - I agree the Sobek 3-9 points bag draw is too random and perhaps I would play without it. - Cathala is outside my top 3 designers, and although his games are a hit or miss for me, I am usually intrigued by his offerings (hits include 7W Duel and 5 Tribes). - I tend to enjoy meaty fillers more than lengthy complex games - have you seen or played "Rumble Nation" yet? - it is wonderfully amazing how much punch it has with such simple mechanisms and components.

Played this 5 times on bga and it feels very samey and the enjoyment gets old quick

I have played Sobek 2 intermittently on BGA. Quick, good 2 player game and I’m a big fan of Bruno’s game designs. Now, there is an expansion set available too. So, it may be time to take the plunge and purchase the game and expansion set. Any opinion if Sobek 2 is better than Splendor Duel?

Haven't gone for expansion as doesn't get played often enough. I would rank Splendor Duel above Sobek though easily.
